Pennsylvania State Police Offer Child Safety-Seat Inspections as
Part of Campaign to Save Lives on Highways
Thursday November 18, 11:01 am ET

HARRISBURG, Pa., Nov. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania State Police
will participate in "Click It or Ticket: Eight Days of Enforcement,"
a statewide campaign to promote use of seat belts and child
restraint systems, State Police Commissioner Jeffrey B. Miller
announced today.
"We could see a significant reduction in the number of traffic crash
fatalities and injuries in Pennsylvania if every driver and
passenger were buckled up every time," Col. Miller said.

Col. Miller said that from Sunday, Nov. 21, through Sunday, Nov. 28,
persons who are stopped for a traffic violation such as speeding
will be given a second citation if they aren't in compliance with
the state's seat belt law.

In addition, each State Police troop statewide will conduct a
minimum of two regulatory checkpoints to encourage drivers to buckle
up. At least one National Highway Traffic Safety Administration-
certified child passenger safety technician will be at each
checkpoint to inspect vehicles and make sure that child restraint
systems are being used properly.

Col. Miller noted that each State Police station has a child
passenger safety-seat fitting station where troopers inspect child
safety seats and provide instruction to parents on the proper use of
those seats. In addition, he said, troopers will be conducting
safety-seat checkups at various community locations during the
campaign period.

Times and locations of the inspections are available on the State
Police Web site at http://www.psp.state.pa.us or by calling any
State Police station.

"The goal of this campaign is not to give out citations," Col.
Miller said. "The goal is to encourage Pennsylvania drivers and
passengers to buckle up and protect themselves."

He said the campaign is being conducted in cooperation with the
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
