Another teacher gift ?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive November 2004: Another teacher gift ?

Okay for all the teachers out there what have been the best gifts you have received? My dd is in kindergarten and I'd love to give her teacher a gift, but not sure what. She is a wonderful person and a great motivater for all the kids. I was even thinking of books/supplies of some sort for her class? Or is something more personal better?

My favorite is a gift certificate at Barnes and Noble.

I have a daycare parents who's a teacher. She said the best gift she ever got was a gift cert to Blockbuster with a Diet Cherry Coke and a bag of M-n-M's (both her favorite!). She said it was good because it was just for "her". She said things for the classroom are nice, but it's nice to get things for themselves also. I have some Avon gift packs for my kids teachers this year. I've given candles in the past and the teachers loved them. But I do think you can never go wrong with a gift cert. Jmho (as always! lol).

I also am a great fan of Barnes and Noble gift certificates - esp. because you get a 20% discount with your MTA card.

A couple of friends who are teachers said they get so much "stuff" (perfume, candy, etc.) that they could never use it all. I go with gift certificates to the local mall, the local movie theater (especially if they have kids) or bookstore. That way they can really pick out something they would enjoy. I usually add an inexpensive ornament on the card to personalize it a little bit.

Gift certificates are great- one thing I usually load up on and it's not that I *don't* like them- is candles.

Gift certificates!!!! I'm not a teacher, but I did work with kids. The best gift that I ever got was a bag of popcorn to pop, twizzlers, and a Blockbuster gift certificate. I loved it.

You could also get them a gift certificate to a spa where they could get a manicure or a pedicure.

I usually take dd shopping and let her pick out something for the class as one of the gifts. They have indoor recess alot during the winter months and the teachers have all loved a new game for that. I also get something special just for the teacher.

The best gift I got was when I taught middle school. My husband and I never go out to eat...too frugal. The parents gave us a gift cert. to a japanese restaurant. It was nice because it wasn't another candle, mug, or bookmark...it was to really "spoil" us. It meant that I stood out from all the other teachers. I also loved mall gift certificates and pampering gift certificates like a pedicure, etc.

PS- It is SO nice of you to do that for her! Things like that keep good teachers in the workforce!! KUDOS TO YOU!!!

One of the things I have done for gift is to give paper plates and napkins and then a GC to a take out place (pizza) or the likes. I know the last thing I wanted to do over the holidays was fix a meal!

Thanks for the great ideas. A GC it looking like the way to go. :)

Thanks for the honesty with regards to the candles, etc. I'm so glad I posted because I probably would have bought something like that. It's such a generic gift kwim?
