Uggs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive November 2004: Uggs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
By Boxzgrl on Sunday, November 7, 2004 - 06:28 pm:

I am dying to buy DD a pair of Uggs! I've been wanting some and I know DH will get them for me but now DD *needs* a matching pair. She won't wear them too much since we live in Ca. but they are soooooooo cute! Is the $$$ worth it? They are going for a little over $30.00 on Ebay right now for the pink sold out ones. Mine are going to be $130.00. This is when I wish I lived in the snow, it would be easier to convince DH of the *need* for Uggs and Ugg accessories! LOL!

By Paulas on Sunday, November 7, 2004 - 06:30 pm:

Okay...I have to ask..what are Uggs?

By Claire on Sunday, November 7, 2004 - 06:33 pm:

You can buy boots that look like uggs at Baby Gap or Target.

By Shellyg on Sunday, November 7, 2004 - 06:36 pm:

I bought my daughter a pair that are Target brand. They were only about 15 bucks. Not Uggs, but again she is only 6. I have the real uggs and love them, I thought if I bought her the "fake" ones they would make her feet sweat. They do not.

By Dawnk777 on Sunday, November 7, 2004 - 07:09 pm:

I bought Target slippers for myself that look like sheepskin, but aren't. I'm just too cheap to buy the real thing! They keep my feet nice and toasty (sometimes, almost too toasty!)

By Trina~moderator on Sunday, November 7, 2004 - 07:23 pm:

Personally, I don't think they're worth the money. Especially since your DD will grow out of them quickly and CA weather doesn't warrant the need for warm boots often. As others have mentioned, get a knock off version. Much cheaper!

By Unschoolmom on Sunday, November 7, 2004 - 07:46 pm:

$130?!?! I'd buy cheap knockoffs for myself, a big bottle of Bailey's, a fleece blanket, a big novel or mushy movie, maple smoked salmon, feta cheese and good crackers and send the rest of the house out to see a movie.
And use the change for chocolate the next day.

By Pamt on Sunday, November 7, 2004 - 08:02 pm:

I agree with those who said not to spend the money for something she doesn't need, at her age she won't care one way or the other, and she'll outgrow them quickly anyway. I'd get a knock-off, if any.

By Rayanne on Sunday, November 7, 2004 - 08:13 pm:

Target has cute pairs for really cheap. I bought Rylee a pair of pink ones and brown ones.

By Colette on Sunday, November 7, 2004 - 08:21 pm:

I would not spend the money. On good boots, yes, on suede boots - in the snow, mud, slush, no way! look for duck boots.

By Truestori on Sunday, November 7, 2004 - 08:40 pm:

I have a pair of Ugg boots, but considering the baby is growing so fast I would get her the ones they sell at Kohl's or Target. I just seen some on clearance for $8.00.

By Karen~moderator on Sunday, November 7, 2004 - 08:49 pm:

You can buy the lookalikes practically everywhere here.....Sams club even has them for adults. Personally, I wouldn't pay that kind of money for ME much less for a baby. JMO - I'd go with a cheaper brand.

By Palmbchprincess on Sunday, November 7, 2004 - 10:17 pm:

I agree you should get the knockoffs if you want to match. Honestly, when I see little infants and toddlers in things like that it makes me think the parents are being materialistic. (IE: newborns wearing Tims... WHY??) I am NOT saying that to hurt your feelings, I just can't understand the need to buy a baby designer stuff that they don't need.

By Maryg on Sunday, November 7, 2004 - 10:27 pm:

I have been wearing Uggs for about 5 years now, because of my very sore feet. I like them. However, they are very slippery in the rain. Now that there are more choices, I have tried the ones from Minnetonka (they come in pink and blue also). The soles are much more studier and not slippery. You can get them at Zappos.com. If you don't like them, you can return them for free.

By Feona on Monday, November 8, 2004 - 07:08 am:

We need boots here in New York and I think ds wears them 5-15 times a year. I don't think she can really wear them inside. They look hot and some children hate to be hot. So you will have to carry two pairs of footwear.

By Karen~moderator on Monday, November 8, 2004 - 07:52 am:

I think the Uggs are really cute, and I have actually tried some of the knockoffs on. The only reason I haven't bought some is that there *might* be 2 or 3 days of the year that I could wear them here.

If you *really* wanted the brand and were willing to spend that much money, *IF* you thought you'd wear them for a few years to get your money out of them, go ahead. But chances are they won't be so stylish in a year, so I'd still go with a cheaper brand, and definitely a cheaper brand for DD, since you KNOW she won't be able to wear them after this season.

By Eve on Monday, November 8, 2004 - 09:56 am:

I think they are adorable on little girls! I tried to get DD to try a pair on in Target and she wasn't in the mood. LOL! I would go for the knock off's--they look the same. Payless also has them. I think everyone has them now! Have fun shopping!:)

By Boxzgrl on Monday, November 8, 2004 - 10:05 am:

Okay I guess i'll get DD the knock off brand but i'm a big name brand freak. Not for the tag but i've always noticed my names brand clothes last 3 times longer than a store brand. And Uggs aren't in style this year as much as they were last year. The ones coming in style now are either the full fluffy ones that look like your wearing a bear on your feet :) or the ones that tie up made by Roxy and other brands.
And Crystal I knowq what your talking about with the name brand stuff. In DDs daycare there are 2 girls that go in that are always matching with zebra stripes, leopard, full fur coats, pretty much all bought from Gymboree. I feel sorry for what that Mom is turning her DDs into. But with Kaitlyn i'll splurge on her once in a while, otherwise she gets the mlitary brand clothing they sell on base. :)

By Claire on Monday, November 8, 2004 - 10:19 am:

Well the moms that dress the girls in Gymboree might be reselling them the following year on ebay like I do - I rarely pay full price she wears them for a season and I almost always make my money back and make a profit most of the time.

I am not sure what you mean by feeling sorry for what they mom's are turning the kids into. My children dress nicely but that does not mean they are not nice kids :)

By Andi on Monday, November 8, 2004 - 11:39 am:

I think it's silly to pay $30 for a pair of UGGS that the kids will out grow in a couple of months. The ones at Target will keep he feet just as warm.
One of my really good friends is selling tons of new UGGS on ebay. She has Children and adult sizes and I am amazed at what people are paying for them.

By Boxzgrl on Monday, November 8, 2004 - 11:39 am:

Claire, i'm sorry I didn't mean to offend you. I just named Gymboree because I had recognized one of the outfits they were wearing. ITs not necessarily the brand but how she dresses them. They are always in dresses with fur jackets and boots. No jeans, no shoes, pretty much like they are ready to walk down the red carpet. She just seems like a "pageant" mom and i'm sure you guys know what I mean by that. And both daughters are under 3. One is 2 1/2 and one is my DDs age. No offense to anyone who shops at Gymboree, i've been know to shop the clearance rack there. :)

By Claire on Monday, November 8, 2004 - 01:09 pm:

You did not offend me. I just did not get what dressing them in Gymboree would do to them lol.

I do have say that other mom's daughters might not care for the way jeans feel - I can't get my almost three year old to wear jeans. She does not like they way they feel. She will only wear them once in a blue moon so I just don't buy them.

By Lorebunde on Monday, November 8, 2004 - 03:24 pm:

I was thinking of getting a pair of knock-offs. Not sure where I saw them, may Chadwicks catalog?
They are cute. Look nice & warm. Are they waterproof to wear out shoveling?

By Boxzgrl on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 - 09:35 pm:

So, I waited toooo long :( I went to Target and they had the ugliest boots there, so I didn't buy any. I went to 2 Payless Shoe Stores and they were sold out. They have one 2 cities away if I feel like driving. I looked on Ebay and they are selling for about $15.00 (the fake Uggs) so I may have to go that route. Thats crazy that not too long ago I ran into them everywhere I went.

By Andi on Wednesday, November 10, 2004 - 10:19 am:

Robinson*May has them plus you can use and extra 15% off coupon when you buy them.

By Rayanne on Wednesday, November 10, 2004 - 10:27 am:

I think that you can go to Payless.com and order them online. If you have them shipped to the store that you want, I do not think that they charge for shipping and handeling. Call them first to make sure, but I think someone on here mentioned this before. HTH:).

By Nicosmom on Wednesday, November 10, 2004 - 11:20 am:

What about Old Navy? They had these really cute suede looking boots that lace up. I would like a pair but I'm not convinced that I wouldn't look odd wearing boots like that here in the valley.
