Another Dr. update

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive November 2004: Another Dr. update
By Kristie on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 - 11:36 pm:

I went to the Dr. again. A diffrent one at the Family Practice clinic, a WOMAN!! YEA!! She couldn't do a pap smear cuz of my spotting but she said that the other Drs. have been giving me the wrong type of pain medicine. So she gave me 5/325 Percacet. She tried to get me in to the specalist sooner and get this.... the receptionist was just as big of a witch to her as she was to me. She told her "Kristie is lucky that we made room for her on the 22nd, if we wouldnt have squeezed her in she would have had to wait till Jan. Oh, and she does realize she HAS to have that $121 to see the Dr. that day doesn't she." My DR. totaly told her off. She said "You know, you have made the $121 point perfectly clear, WE are setting her up with a womens social worker here to see if there is funding for her to get this taken care of, because we are more concerned with Kristie being treated than we are for the money. So rest assured you will have your money!" And HUNG UP ON HER! I was standing right there when all this was being said!! It was soo great to have a dr go that extra mile for me. So this social worker is suppose to call me monday so I can go see her!! Hope fully this is the begining of a long line of good news!! Thanks for the thoughts and prayers!!

(((hugs))) It has to be a big relief to be getting this looked at. ^5 to the doc!

By Colette on Thursday, November 4, 2004 - 07:53 am:

Sounds like you have a great doctor. Hope it all works out for you.

It's so nice to hear about a Doc who really is concerned about treating you whether or not you can pay right away! Good luck with the social worker. I hope there is funding out there for you.

Kristie, Percocet is oxycodone, and Vicodin/Lortab is hydrocodone. Oxycodone is something like 4 times stronger than hydrocodone, and IMO, works MUCH better. You shouldn't have to take it as often because of that.

That's great news. Honestly, medical care has simply become *big business*. It's reassuring to know there are doctors around who are still genuinely concerned with the health of their patients. Keep us updated.

I was on percocet after having my wisdom teeth out, and it's very powerful. Be careful! I was so out of it, and was hallucinating.

Sounds like you have a wonderful doctor!!!

If you're feeling so bad, and having symptoms, can you not walk into emergency and be seen by the doc and specialist there? I know that it can sure get the ball moving a lot faster! It's awful that you're having to suffer with this for so long!

Feel better!

That is such good news. I can only guess seeing your new dr respond that way, in and of itself, made you feel SO much better all by itself. Sounds like you found a good office to work with you.

Percocet is definitely a major pain killer. And you definitely do want to be careful, especially about driving and doing anything with potential risks - including cooking. Keep a careful mental eye on yourself and sort of mentally check your reflexes and attention span. I can take it and have it do nothing but kill my pain; one of my sons took it once and was hallucinating like crazy and will never take it again. Lots of people have good pain control results with it but get drowsy and have to pay attention to how they move, walk, climb stairs, etc. So do pay attention to how your body and mind are feeling when you take this medication, and be very careful about the dosage. Also, be sure your doctor knows every other medication you are taking. I know, for example, that my doctor told me to NOT take any aspirin or tylenol type products when I was taking percocet because of potential kidney problems.

I am so pleased your doctor stuck up for you with that nasty secretary. Sounds like you have a winner there and I hope you let her know how much you appreciate not only her medical care but her people care.

I did give the Dr a hug before I left and said Thank you. She said she was just doing her job and I told her that she went beyond her job and nobody else has done that. It was great.
I have been on percocet before. You wouldn't believe the amount of diffrent pain killers I have been on. Hydrocodoen(vicodin) 5/325, 7.5/500,& 10/650. Percocet 5/325, & 7.5/500. Oxicotin (just like Rush Limbaugh), Toradol, Meprozine(demerol& fenegrine), Tramadol, Methodone, And Morphine. I think that covers it. Lots of stuff huh. I have been on most of those because of female problems. The only other problem I have ever had is a pinched nerve in my back that still gives me problems. They gave me Flexeril for that. I have a very high tolerance to pain killers even though I only weigh 94 (oh ya I forgot to write I gained a pound:)!). Percocet and hydrocodone have an opposite affect on me. For the lack of a better termanlogy, it affects me like methanphetamines affect druggies, If it does work & take my pain away I can't sit still. I clean everything I see, I'm oiling sgueeky hinges, alphebetising spices, you name it. The percocet is helping better than the hydrocodone but I have never had pain this bad so I am leaveing the house cleaning to DH(that is a whole other story, he is doing his best though).
I do feel beter on it though. Plus my best friend is a pharmacist and she tells me absolutly everything about every drug I have ever been on and explains to me all side effects, and drug interaction info. Plus She takes the mark up price off the prescription and gives it to me at cost cuz she knows my money situation. so all those 120 percocets cost me $5. She can't do that on all pills, some antibiotics, some pain killers, Cough syrup. She can't for B.C. pills. She said you would not believe the mark up on prescription drugs. Her pharmacy does this for alot of people. Its pretty cool of them.
Anyway thanks for the concern about the pain meds, its so sweet that you all care so much that you caution me on this!! I just love this message board and everyone on it!!!!!!
