Do you go to a nursing home for rehabiliation?

By Vicki on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 - 10:49 am:

I think it really depends on your family situation. My grandmother went to my Aunts home when she broke her hip.

My mom, before she passed away broke her shoulder and they did put her in for rehab. I would guess that is also what they would do for a broken hip at that age.
How is John's mom doing???

I think it depends on her family situation and her general health.

My grandmother broke her hip two years ago, she was 78. She is a diabetic and broke the ball off the femur from a fall. She was home after several days in the hospital, they put in several pins during surgery. She was driven to rehab by her daughter for about a month, she had someone come to do therapy with her. She really has bounced back pretty well. My grandfather died a year ago and she is living alone now and doing okay. Her bedroom is upstairs (spiral staircase no less) and she goes up it every day and down in it in the am.

Generally speaking from my experience they will most likely put her in a home for rehab. That does not mean that she will have to stay there longer than what rehab will take.
