GET OUT AND VOTE!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive November 2004: GET OUT AND VOTE!
By Ginny~moderator on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 06:13 pm:

'nuff said.

By Vicki on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 06:18 pm:

I can't wait for morning to go vote! I was asking dh last night what commercials would be on once this election is over. I usually don't mind elections, but this year it seemed to be every where all the time. I guess it is because we are in Ohio and it is a very important state for them. But I am TIRED of it!!

By Boxzgrl on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 06:34 pm:

Already Done! Woo-Hoo!!

By Trina~moderator on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 06:42 pm:

With all due respect Ginny, I can't wait for people to stop pestering me to vote! Especially considering I can't. LOL!

By Tink on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 06:53 pm:

Trina, why can't you?

I am all set to go first thing in the morning. I agree, Vicki. I'm sick of it but I am not sure we will have heard the end of it by tomorrow evening. :(

By Cat on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 06:56 pm:

I'm taking kids to school and then going to vote. I'll still have to take two 2yo's with me. Hopefully the lines won't be long. I'm very anxious about Wednesday morning.

Cori, Trina one of those pesky Canadians. :) (jk-you know I love ya, Trina!!!)

By Emily7 on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 07:01 pm:

I will be voting in the morning.

By Trina~moderator on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 07:06 pm:

text description LOL, Cat! A Canadian who really needs to get working on the Naturalization process.

By Cat on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 07:20 pm:

Trina, my aunt was on a green card for over 30 years before she finally did it. She said she was afraid to try, and when she finally did she said it was SO easy and she couldn't believe she waited so long. :)

By Karen~moderator on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 07:28 pm:

DH and I plan to be at the polls @ 0600!

By Tink on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 07:29 pm:

ROFL Serious D'oh moment! I knew that, just slipped my mind. I guess you seem so *normal* that I don't even think of it. JK, all you Canadians!

By Kaye on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 07:42 pm:

it isn't the ads that bother me, but the PHONE CALLS. I mean really yesterday george bush called and arnold swartzenhager called me :)

By Kaye on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 08:03 pm:

LOL laura bush just called me too :)

By Dawnk777 on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 08:07 pm:

Enough phone calls and commercials already! LOL! I want to vote as soon as my kids are off to school!

By Kim on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 08:34 pm:

I went to vote early today, we could for the last two weeks. There was a three hour line! I guess if there is one tomorrow I am going to have to wait! I left today, didn't have time...

By Monicamomof3 on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 08:36 pm:

Sure wish I could fly to Ohio, Penn. or Florida and cast my vote! LOL!I can't wait to vote. I am lucky; the place where I am suppose to vote is basically across the street!

By Cocoabutter on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 09:34 pm:

I have been helping out my MIL (remember I posted that she stayed with us for a while b/c she had hurt her knee- it was arthritis) and I got her an absentee ballot. I dropped it off at City Hall in her city last week.

DH and I are going to vote first thing in the morning, too.

Funny- as divided as this country is- we are unified on one thing- we ALL need to get more involved in choosing our nation's policymakers and leaders!

By Ilovetom on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 09:37 pm:

Well, there is nothing better to me than taking my children to see me vote. Even though they are almost old enough to vote theirselves- I like to make the point that each vote counts.

By Brandy on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 10:04 pm:

How is it possible to vote one day early? why even set aside a certain day to do it if everyone is doing it early anyways?

By Kaye on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 10:34 pm:

In texas you could early vote for the past two weeks, but htat ended on friday. I guess they have this for people like doctors who won't know their schedule, etc. Also it is meant for people who will be out of town, they can cast their ballot too! This year they even let the two astronauts on board the ISS (leroy and sali) vote too. They did it via computers. I think the goal is simply to get as many people to vote as they can.

By Christylee on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 10:36 pm:

I voted on Friday, only an hour wait! I haven't gotten ANY phone calls or really even seen the commercials but then again I rarely watch tv.

By My2cuties on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 10:40 pm:

Yay! I am so excited that it is finally here. Good Luck, and may the best man win!

By Melanie on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 10:42 pm:

An hour wait?? I've never had to wait at all! Arnold has called me a couple of times, but since Kerry will win CA, there really haven't been any ads out here. Thank goodness! I will vote after dropping the kids off at school in the morning. :)

By Palmbchprincess on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 10:46 pm:

I am pretty excited to go tomorrow and vote. Nate gets off shift at 8 am, so he's coming to pick us up to head to the polls. Apparently it's going to be chilly so he called to tell me wear a jacket. We'll be making it a bundled family adventure to the polls!

By Imamommyx4 on Tuesday, November 2, 2004 - 12:05 am:

I can't wait until it is OVER!!!!!

By Dawnk777 on Tuesday, November 2, 2004 - 01:03 am:

There were LONG lines to absentee vote today, at the courthouse, according to hubby. I hope there isn't a long line tomorrow, because I don't have the luxury of lots of time for voting tomorrow.

Imamommyx4, I'm right there with you!

Kids asked tonight, if the political commercials stop after tomorrow. I said, yes, just like that!

By Karen~moderator on Tuesday, November 2, 2004 - 07:23 am:

Well, it's 6:23 AM here and my vote is cast!

By Mara on Tuesday, November 2, 2004 - 08:51 am:

I'm waiting until dh gets home from work today then we are going together.

By Vicki on Tuesday, November 2, 2004 - 09:44 am:

I just got home from voting and I can't believe that I actually had to wait in a line of about 25 people! We are in a tiny little town and I have never had to wait before! But anyway, they were VERY careful about reminding us to look for hanging chads before turning our card in. LOL I am glad that I am done!!

By Jackie on Tuesday, November 2, 2004 - 10:35 am:

Im waiting until my husband comes home at 3:15pm to vote. He voted before work this morning, said he waited 45 minutes. The voting is right down the street at the school, but I do not want to wait in a long line with all 3kids...so I will wait until later.

By Tink on Tuesday, November 2, 2004 - 12:03 pm:

I just got back from voting (Kerry) and the wait was about 15 minutes long. I was expecting much worse but everything was divided by last name and A-D was short. There were a few lines that maybe had a 45 minute wait.

By Dawnk777 on Tuesday, November 2, 2004 - 12:04 pm:

No hanging chads. We draw lines with a marker! LOL! I voted for Kerry and so did DH and so did a few of my neighbors, since they have Kerry signs in their yards.

A-L was a very long line! We waited about 25 minutes. If we were M-Z, we would have been in and out!

By Sunny on Tuesday, November 2, 2004 - 12:07 pm:

I voted around 10:00am and I didn't have to wait for more than a few minutes. Since school was off today, I took the four younger kids with me and two of them joined me in the voting booth! :)

By Palmbchprincess on Tuesday, November 2, 2004 - 02:53 pm:

I have a strange question. We used the lever booths, and I hadn't seen these since I was a kid going to the polls with my mom. What are your choices marked on when you pull the lever? Is there a punch card behind there? (in which case how do I know there are no chads?!) Or a register of some sort? Anyone know?? (BTW, we did take the kids in, and they got fire hats since it was at the volunteer fire department!)

By Bellajoe on Tuesday, November 2, 2004 - 02:59 pm:

Our number is unlisted, so luckily we didn't get any of those calls. Barbara Bush called my MIL though, and George Bush called my sister! LOL.

I dropped ds off at preschool and took dd to the polls to vote. We vote at her school which is right across the street. So we just went home then walked over to the school. I'm glad i didn't have to deal with the parking lot!

By Emily7 on Tuesday, November 2, 2004 - 03:13 pm:

Talk about name dropping. LOL
I am very lucky not to have had any calls.

By Cocoabutter on Tuesday, November 2, 2004 - 05:41 pm:

I have had lots of calls- at least two every day!
Some of them have been pro-Kerry, most have been pro-Bush, and some of them are about our two major state proposals.

1. A yes vote on this proposal would amend the Constitution of the State of Michigan to require voter approval of any new form of state sponsored gambling and certain new state lottery games, which is controversial b/c our public schools are paid for (supposedly) with state lottery profits.

2. A yes vote on this proposal would amend the State Consitution to define marriage as between a man and a woman.

There is a divide in Michigan between the East side (Detroit, Democratic) and the West (Grand Rapids, Republican, though moving left) and so our state has its OWN major debates that have spawned a lot of campaigning for/against these proposals.

I voted with dh this morning at 9:30 and there was a line of cars waiting for parking spots. When we left, the line was out to the street!

By Dawnk777 on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 - 08:08 am:

I got former President Clinton and Jesse Jackson! LOL! We did listen to the Clinton message, but I hung up on Jesse Jackson, since I had already voted anyway.
