Dh may loose his job

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive November 2004: Dh may loose his job
By Debbie on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 11:37 am:

I am just so upset and shocked right now. They are cutting 10% of jobs at dh's company. He is the newest person in his organization, so he feels he has a good chance of getting his notice.

I am just so frustrated. Dh has worked for this company for 12 years. He was always in sales before and a top performer. He started at the bottom and worked hard to get promoted 4 times in 8 years. Most of you know we moved last year to Chicago. We really weren't too thrilled with moving, but his boss and a few higher ups said that he need experience in Marketing to move up to the VP level. Now, we are in a situation where he could loose his job. If we were still in Texas this wouldn't even be an issue. But, because he is in a new organization, he could be gone, just like that.

Dh is just beside himself. He was the one who pushed to move. I didn't think it was a good idea. Now, he is just so upset that he didn't listen to me. I am frustrated, but know how much he is hurting, so I wouldn't dare say a word. He hasn't slept since Friday when he found out. We will hear something this Friday. Please keep us in your prayers. Dh really loves this company and he will be devastated to loose his job.

{{{HUGS}}} I'm sorry to hear this Debbie, and hope everything works out. However, it would be a good idea to update his resumé and contact head hunters just in case. Never hurts to have your ducks in a row. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers.

Lots of hugs! I know how devastating a job loss can be. I'll be hoping for the best and praying until Friday.

Thank you everyone. Trina, he was on Monster.com this weekend. He also has been calling all his contacts in the company this morning to see what they have available. The problem is that there are cuts in all organizations. He is hoping though that he can get back to the sales channel, even if he has to take a down grade. The bad part is that we might have to move now and we would probably have to move ourselves, but at least he would have a job. Just wasn't planning on moving so soon. We haven't even been here a year. My ds's will be so upset. They really love their new school. It would be my oldest ds's 4th school and he is only in the 1st grade!!!!

I hate that company's just getting rid of great people that have worked their butts off and just like that they can get rid of you even though you've put all those years in !that really stinks = ( ...really ticks me off I'll be praying for the whole situation Debbie

It's so unfair.

Try to stay positive though...he hasn't been let go yet :)

Oh we've BTDT. Dh had 3 jobs in one year. Not fun at all- and so stressful. Get that resume out there like Trina said. It's also helpful to call contacts. One time when dh lost his job, he had a new one before he even packed up (within an hour) because he called a contact and told him he'd been laid off and the man offered him a job on the spot (but then that company went belly-up- but that's another story!) Good luck! (Maybe he'll get severence?! We got that one time and it lasted 3 mo.....

By Lauram on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 04:17 pm:

Oh- and I should mention there were other times when even bigger percent cuts were made that dh didn't lose his job (and he'd only been there 6 mo). He didn't lose his job BECAUSE he was a good performer.

By Jelygu on Monday, November 1, 2004 - 05:17 pm:

(((HUGS))) You will be in my thoughts.

{{{{{{{{{{{{{{Debbie}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} I'll cross fingers and toes for you guys!

By Imamommyx4 on Tuesday, November 2, 2004 - 12:12 am:

BTDT, too. DH lost his job in September because of low volume business after he's been there 8 years. We knew for about a month or little more that it was inevitable but it hurts. I've gone back to work FT until he finds a job but the market for him here is slim. I truly do sympathize with you right now.

By Kristie on Tuesday, November 2, 2004 - 12:13 am:

{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{DEBBIE}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}I'm right there with ya girl. DH has lost MANY jobs for reasons kinds like yours. It seemed like there for 2 yrs every company he started to work for would move out of the state 4-5 months after he started. And these companys had been in the state for years. There was a joke going around that said if Albert is working there don't go to work there cuz the company will be leaveing the state soon. (not funny at the time) Right now my DH has 3 days of work left until his seasonal job ends. But at least we arn't away from family! I am so sorry, keep your chin up. May-be they will see how much he has done to have this job and they will keep him on. You and your family are in my prayers!!:)
