Speaking of cats.... Why are mine so picky?

Sometimes I feel like I picked my cats up off of Rodeo Drive. They only eat the cat food that is $20.00 a bag so thats $40.00 a month to feed a combined weight of 15 pounds. They cry and beg and whine until they get canned food. The vet says they can only have bottled water to prevent crystallization in their urine which could end up being lots of bladder related problems. And lately they have not liked their cat litter. I picked up Tidy Cat since I had a coupon for it and the cats started pooping outside of the litter. I went back to the clumping stuff that costs me $7.00 each time I have to change out the litter, which is once weekly. Now, they are fine. Thank God Gucci doesn't make cat litter, i'd have to get a job! :)

Oh well, that's just cats. They are creatures of habit, picky, and can't be reasoned with.

One of the 7 my mom brought from Chicago would only eat one type of one particular brand of tuna cat food, and when they "improved" (changed) the recipe, she went over a week eating only bits and pieces and lost about 4 pounds before she started eating.

As for bottled water, could you use a filter? We use a filter on the tap and my vet tech son says that gets almost all of the risky stuff out of the water.

LOL. My cat is a snob. I think cats were once worshipped and for some reason he still thinks that we should.

He only eats *Fancy Feast*.

I've never heard of using bottled water for the cat. Hmmm...neither one of the cats likes drinking out of a container, though. They both jump into the sink when they hear the water running. :)

I had a cat who would only eat Tender Vittles. He would attack your ankles if you gave him anything else. He came around eventually.

Ginny, we use base water and they are constantly flushing out the pipes from problems. I dont even cook with it. I love my cats, they're awesome. This post was more of a funny thing I have noticed, i'm definitely not complaining! :)

Ask me about our new dog and I could gather quite a few complaints though, lol!

Don't feel bad, I have a 130 lb dog that eats $52 (one bad, and a case of wet food) bucks of food a week! On top of that he just had a VERY expensive non cancerous tumor removed, and has to have surgery on not one, BUT both knees. I won't get into the costs of that! He is worth every penny, I love my guy!

Miss mudd the cat prefers her meals squeeking as in she prefers live to any food that comes out of a can or a bag. Yes I do have alot of dead critters come through the cat door. No I am not all that happy about it but we live in farm country and I much prefer dead to alive in my house :) Honestly she only brings me the ones that I will really be impressed by. One time she caught a wood pecker and when I wouldn't let her in she kept throwing its poor body against the sliding glass until I went and buried it. Bells dont work, she can noodle out of any of the break away collars and I wont put her in one that doesnt have that feature. I just have my 15 yo ds do "dead critter patrol", which means he gets to go and bury most of the carnage.

My cats aren't too picky about the brand but it has to be fresh! If I fill the bowl and they don't eat all of it, I HAVE to dump the old stuff and refill it. Don't add any on top of the old or they won't eat any of it! And lately, they have decided that they need a midnight snack. Imagine 4 little black assassins attacking my head at 2:30am! I'm sure it's because I make such a nice squealing noise every time they do!

LMBO picturing a woodpecker hitting your sliding glass door! Of course I don't have to deal with that so it's much funnier from my point of view!

Our cats are spoiled. They get canned food daily. :) We were told it was mainly cheap cat food that caused crystals. One of our former cats was prone to them until we switched to premium food. Not one problem thereafter, and that was 10+ yrs. ago. We have filtered well water so the water isn't an issue for us.

We have been using clumping litter for several years. We scoop the boxes daily and only change it once a month. It's scoopable, which is MUCH different than traditional litter, so you shouldn't need to change it so often, Melissa. That will save some money right there!

Our cats are strictly indoor pets so we don't get any critters in the house, thank goodness!

I have recently started calling our cat, Gizmo, "Your Highness". I swear the cat thinks he's a king!!! He's SUCH a snob. I tell him, "Giz, there's only one God, and YOU'RE NOT HIM!!!" lol At least our cats will eat fairly inexpensive food and use whatever litter I buy them. I'd better keep Giz away from the tv and commercials, though, or he'll rebel! lol

Melissa, my dog will only drink ice water or water from the toilet bowl if someone leaves the seat up.

We have a water filtering system in our freezer with ice and water on the door, and my dog only drinks water with ice from there! LOL And she will only drink any water if it's COLD. Won't touch it room temperature. I guess she likes the toilet bowl because it's cooler than room temp water. Gross, I know!

Jen's cat is picky, but only likes one particular cheap cat food (I know, NOT good for her urinary tract - but she's 14 going on 15 years old and just had her first UTI). Also, this cat absolutely refuses to eat any table food.

Wish I could say the same for my dog. When Jules had her, she was accustomed to being hand fed at dinnertime and now she constantly BEGS and I HATE it. We give her pig ears for snacks and lamb and rice dog food only, not the kinds with beef or whatever, because she had allergy problems with the dog food she was eating when we got her. DH is bad about feeding her table scraps of chicken and beef. OH - and the dog loves vanilla wafers and ice cream or sherbet! Her favorite is Blue Bell peppermint!

Thats hilarious Karen, cold water only!?!? Our new dog knows how to lift the toilet seat and drink water then have it seat go back down. And to think i've been yelling at DH for peeing on the toilet seat! Poor guy! It was doggie slobber! LOL!
