Please keep us in your thoughts

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive October 2004: Please keep us in your thoughts
By Vicki on Saturday, October 23, 2004 - 11:47 am:

We have a little Yorkie that is about 4 years old. About 15 minutes ago, he jumped off the couch and I am quite sure that he broke either a leg, or dislocated his hips or something. In any case, the poor little guy was yipping like crazy and in less than 10 minutes after it happened, dh is on his way to the vet with him now. As any of you know that have a little Yorkie (or any dog for that matter) he is a member of our family and I am worried to death right now. Poor little guy is either in so much pain or something that he even vomited in his kennel on the way out to the car. Please keep little Rocky in your thoughts this afternoon!!

Oh I know how you feel. I also have a 4 year old Yorkie named Gizmo. He is only 3 pounds and is full grown. He has done this too, but he was ok. He just landed wrong and it eventually got better in about an hour.

Dh just called and it isn't looking great at this point. The vet looked him over and said that he might have broken his back.. they are knocking him out and going to take x-rays now. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

Oh, how awful!!! I'm so sorry your pooch is injured. I will pray for the best for the poor little guy.

I just got back from the vet with my dog - almost $200 worth!!! YIKES! I was so NOT prepared for this.

Let us know how your dog is.

How is he??? {{{{{Vicki and family}}}}}

By Vicki on Saturday, October 23, 2004 - 10:43 pm:

Well, we don't know really how he is. Great news is that he didn't break his back. The vet did the x-rays and all the bones in his back are right where they should be. He gave him some shots (steriod and pain) and sent him home with some anti infamitory medicine and something to help keep his stomach settled. At this point, he thinks it is like a person hurting their back and thinks the medicine will fix him up. He isn't walking right, but is now able to stand and walk a little. That is all good news. If he takes a turn for the worse, or is unable to stand or walk, we have directions to a 24 hour vet clinic we are to take him to immediately for a possible back surgery. They can also do MRI's at this clinic, so that would most likely be what they would do first. So we are not out of the woods by a long shot, but it is better news than we thought earlier this afternoon. Thanks so much for your concern and thoughts and prayers. It really means alot!!

Vicki, that's great he didn't break his back. Poor little doggie! I hope he's up and running around soon. Having a sick or hurt pet is almost like having a sick or hurt kid, isn't it? More hugs. :)

Oh Cat it really is. This is really the first time I have experienced something like this with pet. We have another dog that is 14 and has never had a thing wrong with her in her life. This little Yorkie will be the death of me. This is the second scare we have had with him!!! It is almost killing me to see him this way though. He is usually so spunky and full of life and high strung and he is just pretty much laying around. We called the vet a little while ago and he seems to think he is doing ok. He ate dinner and is drinking a little. (although we have to hold his dish up for him, he can't bend over to eat/drink) He says he thinks he will be fine and we just need to give it time to heal, but it is so hard to see him like this. We just don't want to be thinking he is doing ok and really we should have him up at the emergency clinic. He stressed so strong that if he takes a turn for the worse to get him there QUICK because there are only so many hours that you have and then they really can't fix it. So it is just so nerve wracking not knowing what to do. We have to be with him 24/7 to keep an eye on him for the next 24 to 48 hours. He says we should see good improvement by Monday. It is just so hard.... thanks again for your concern.

Pets are truly family members. I hope he's going to be OK.

How's he doing today, Vicki??? My mom has a Silky and my inlaws used to have a Yorkie and a Silky. They're cute little dogs. :) Let us know how he's doing. :)

How is Rocky doing today?

By Vicki on Monday, October 25, 2004 - 10:51 am:

Hi ladies and thanks for asking about Rocky. Well, he is doing a little better, but not normal by a long shot. The vet has called every day asking about him and he says he is on the right track!! He can stand and walk (although it is sometimes not pretty) but you can tell that he still has some pain and sometimes his back legs just give out and he falls over. He is assuring us that this will all go back to normal once his injury heals and the swelling goes down. I sure hope so. He is a bit more himself and is a little perkier, but nothing like normal. I guess it is just a waiting game. We either have to hold him or have him confined so he can't jump. So he is either in my lap, or in his crate, or in a play pen. LOL Thanks again for asking about him!!

By Rayanne on Monday, October 25, 2004 - 11:32 am:

I hope that he has a speedy recovery.
