Having an AWFUL evening

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive October 2004: Having an AWFUL evening
By Karen~moderator on Thursday, October 21, 2004 - 07:57 pm:

I left work and went to the pharmacy to pick up oodles of Rx's and then decided I would go to the grocery. Fine. Right? NOT! 2 Rx's were partial fills and another for my DH has the generic discontinued, so we have no choice but to pay for the brand name. OK, I can deal with that, go back tomorrow to pick up the remainder of the partial fills. Get used to paying triple for one of his Rx's.

Then I go to the grocery. Buy a sirloin steak - don't make it out of the store before I have steak blood all over me. OK - I can deal with that too! I'm a wash and wear type, no problem.

Get some 2-liter sodas since they were on sale, and I quit buying cans for the kids because they waste them. Great idea, right? NOT! Dropped one in the driveway and it burst open.

OK - things could be worse so I continue unloading and putting away the food. I bought a dozen and a half eggs. I am putting them in my egg holder that goes in the fridge - guess what? I left the egg carton too close to the edge of the counter top and it falls off and 5 eggs splatter everywhere! UGH! All over the floor, the walls, the cabinet doors....... So I get all that cleaned up. Sit down. Take some deep breaths. Try to relax.

Talking and kidding around with Katheryn, thinking to myself, *OK, the evening is not a TOTAL wash*, when, in walks the dog and I notice that what *was* a pink spot on her chest yesterday, where she had obviously been scratching and/or chewing, is now a raw, bloody mass of fur! Freak out, try to clean it up and see what's going on there, look at the clock, the Vet had closed 3 minutes ago at that point. So I put Neosporin on it and try to tape a bandage on it to keep her from chewing it. Not going well at ALL! Off comes the bandage. Called my vet tech friend who tells me to give her 3 Benadryl so she will stop scratching. Did that. Give her some ice water. Then I cut a lamp shade to put around her head to keep her away from her own skin. Obviously she is NOT happy about that, I try to tape it onto her collar with mailing tape, make the mistake of putting a piece of tape on my lip so it is handy. Pull it off, and also pull off the skin of my lower lip. OUCH!!!!! I'm bleeding everywhere now too, so the dog is not alone. Steak blood mixed with Karen blood, not a pretty sight.

THEN I turn around and the dog is promptly throwing up the water she just drank and all the Benadryl. Clean THAT up. Send the dog outside. Will try the Benadryl again later.

Come back inside - start to pick up stuff and drop something heavy in the bowl of doggie water and it flips the bowl and water is now everywhere. So I hurry into the kitchen to get towels to clean it up and stub my baby toe on the corner of the molding and pop the end of it open. This is the toe I split open at the fair Saturday and it was starting to heal. More bleeding from me all over the floor instead of my shirt this time.

I could just sit down and cry! All this happened in the space of 30 minutes!

Welcome to my pity party!

By Mommyathome on Thursday, October 21, 2004 - 08:05 pm:

Big ((((((hugs)))))))

All of this happened *after* work?! Just sit down, relax and don't touch anything else.

I hope tomorrow goes much better. And, I hope your dog (and toe and lip) are feeling better soon too.

By Amecmom on Thursday, October 21, 2004 - 08:08 pm:

Oh Karen! Hugs! I was just listening to Helen cry for hours and thinking nothing could be worse. But, you've proved me wrong! I hope the rest of your night is okay ... Can you just go straight to bed to prevent any further damage? :). Just think though, you've probably used up all your bad luck for the week!
Ame

By Vicki on Thursday, October 21, 2004 - 08:20 pm:

By Tink on Thursday, October 21, 2004 - 08:48 pm:

Oh, Karen, I think you get the *worst day* award! May I prescribe a glass of wine, a nice foot massage from dh (using care around your sore piggy), and an early bedtime? Just think, tomorrow has to be better!

By Karen~moderator on Thursday, October 21, 2004 - 09:34 pm:

Thanks..........I'm feeling better now........and a bit silly for whining about it. Just seemed like LOTS of stuff happened in a short period of time. I've managed to get 2 loads of laundry done without any disasters, so maybe things are on the upswing? LOL

By Tink on Thursday, October 21, 2004 - 09:59 pm:

Two loads and no disasters? I would have been expecting crayons melted in the dryer, pebbles left in the pocket, permission slip put through the spin cycle, cat sleeping in the dryer when you turned it on...wow, there is a lot that can happen just doing laundry when you are having a day like yours, Karen! Glad to hear it is turning around.

By Kay on Thursday, October 21, 2004 - 10:01 pm:

Things *definitely* have to be going upward from this point! Just look at it this way - perhaps all the bad stuff for quite some time just got done and over with in one evening!

By Dawnk777 on Thursday, October 21, 2004 - 11:05 pm:

Goodness! From bad to worse, no matter what you did! I hope you had a stiff drink tonight!

By Eight_Kids on Thursday, October 21, 2004 - 11:45 pm:

THIS is what you call a Candid Camera Day....waiting for someone to show up and say "Smile you're on Candid Camera". :)
Been THERE! Done THAT!
I'm so sorry for you! Hope tomorrow is a better day!

By Andi on Thursday, October 21, 2004 - 11:48 pm:

Hope you have have a much better day tomorrow.

By Bobbie~moderatr on Friday, October 22, 2004 - 01:14 am:

So did you make it through the night???????? Hope tomorrow is a better day for ya...

By Cocoabutter on Friday, October 22, 2004 - 03:12 am:

I hate to admit it but I was laughing too!

If I had a night like that (and I have), I would (and I have) just sit down and start laughing! At that point, when it seems you just have bad charma or something, it's like "Why not just have a good laugh?" It's so stress-relieving!

I was sitting here laughing, and my dh said, "What's so funny?
I said, "This one gal is telling about everything that went wrong with her day- one thing after another!"
He said, "So why are you laughing? If it was you, and I was laughing, you'd be totally peeved off at me!"
You know, he's right!!

By Cocoabutter on Friday, October 22, 2004 - 03:13 am:

And I have a little toe that got in the way of a chair one day almost 2 months ago, and it's STILL getting in the way and it's STILL sore!

By Feona on Friday, October 22, 2004 - 05:58 am:

You must have been exhausted. Do you have an online delivery service like peapod or safeway or vons? I wonder if there is a better place for the prescriptions. They were really bad.

Get some rest!

By Karen~moderator on Friday, October 22, 2004 - 07:51 am:

I'm laughing about it all this morning... *most* of it, anyway. :-)

Have to call the Vet about the dog though.

I consoled myself by doing some online shopping. blush

By Kernkate on Friday, October 22, 2004 - 08:18 am:

{{{Karen}}} Hope you are having a better day today:) What an awful night you had! Murphy's Law I guess...LOL Being a Murphy I know that law way to well:)

By Rayanne on Friday, October 22, 2004 - 09:06 am:

(((((HUGS)))))
I'm glad that things are going better.

By Fraggle on Friday, October 22, 2004 - 09:11 am:

What a night. You must have a ton of patience. I would have lost it after the episode with the eggs. Glad to hear you got some online shopping done this morning. Shopping always makes me feel better :).

By Janet on Friday, October 22, 2004 - 02:56 pm:

LOL Karen! I wouldn't be laughing if it happened to me, to be sure, but it reads like a really bad (and unbelievable) movie script! Poor thing... What a horrible evening! (covers mouth so you don't see me laughing again)

By Cat on Friday, October 22, 2004 - 02:57 pm:

I think I would have just gone to bed. Hope tonight's better (it's GOT to be!). :)

By Kim on Friday, October 22, 2004 - 03:19 pm:

LOL, Karen, souinds like a classic! I knew as soon as I read the benedryl part that you would be cleaning up vomit! I hope your night gopt better and today was ok!

By Shalom2t on Friday, October 22, 2004 - 03:49 pm:

Karen,
I feel for you I really do. However I resuce animals and I have learned thru fire - do not ever give them pills if there is liquid meds avalible you can get them down easier and usually (not all the time) no vomiting.
You should give yourself a pamper - buuble bath, candles, the whole nine yards - YOU DESERVE IT!
May your days be better.

By Emily7 on Friday, October 22, 2004 - 04:59 pm:

That is the worst 1/2 hour I have ever seen. I hope today went much smoother.

By Ginny~moderator on Friday, October 22, 2004 - 09:14 pm:

{{{{{Claire}}}}}

Hope you're feeling better today. I think I would just have sat down on the floor and bawled.

BTW, how's the dog?

By Karen~moderator on Friday, October 22, 2004 - 09:32 pm:

Thanks, the dog goes to the vet in the AM. Poor thing! I think she has another staph infection.

By Tklinreston on Saturday, October 23, 2004 - 12:44 am:

Wow Karen. I just now read what happened to you last night (with my mouth gaping open). As someone said above "when it rains it pours." Well, you sound like an incredibly patient lady. I hope you had a good day today and that your finger is doing better.

By Imamommyx4 on Saturday, October 23, 2004 - 01:33 am:

I really hope you had a better Friday.
