Question about porn

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive October 2004: Question about porn
By Kaye on Tuesday, October 19, 2004 - 09:35 am:

I have read several messages here about finding porn on your computer. Other than looking through the history, how do you find it? I ask because we got a bad virus this weekend that reset our homepage to an inappropriate one! So I wanted to search through our files and make sure we didn't have photos somewhere, etc. Is there a way to do that?

Well, if you're really smart (which I'm not!), you can look into the cookies that have been stored in your files. The only thing is, you have to be certain not to delete something that your computer needs, so it can be tricky. Perhaps someone else has more info that can help.

While you have Internet Explorer up go to tools, Internet options, you can delete cookies & temp files here.

I just put the alphabet in the search bar. For instance I will type a in the search bar and let it give me options of sites to go to that have already been accessed. I go a-z. Have found some interesting stuff.

In Internet Explorer go under "Tools" and click on "Internet Options". That will bring up a box with "General" appearing first. In the "Temporary Internet Files" click on "Settings" then on "View Files". That should show you everything.

You can also click on the arrow beside the BACK button, and then click on the HISTORY button. You have the choice of today, last week, last 10 weeks, etc. It shows every site that's been visited.

Oh man I got that virus too. And seeings that the only two people that use my computer are myself and my dauther I knew we didn't get it through going to the porn sites. I wish I could remember the name of the virus. But I know that it is atattched to general sites hidden behind buttons to links. Dang what was the name of that thing....... Grrr. It really messed me up though... It took me forever to get things running right again... It changed my home page to a porno site and I couldn't get it to change. I ended up down loading netscape and deleted of my Internet explorer. It also kept slamming me with pop ups of porn sites. And like I said, I know no one got it through a porn site on here. I down loaded AVAST anti virus off line and it found it and cleaned it all up for me. But jesh I was worried for a minute...
