Coughing question

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive October 2004: Coughing question
By Shandi on Thursday, October 14, 2004 - 12:08 am:

I've had a dry cough for almost 2 weeks now, I've been trying different over the counter meds, but nothing seems to help, I hate going to the dr.'s office, the waiting just gets to me, so I was wondering what you all take for colds, maybe there's a good home remedy I'm missing out on.My cough is just a lot of coughing, I get some mucus, but no running nose, eyes, no headaches, earaches, so I'm really getting tired of coughing. I can't enjoy taking my kids to playgroups, since they don't want mothers or kids who are sick participating. Help me !

It could be an allergy cough.

Well, I don't want to get flamed for saying this, but here goes. I would go on the doctor.

Sometimes a cough that hangs around could be something more.

I hope you feel better.

Shandi, I was having the same thing, so I went to the doctors. Mine was sinus drainage from allergies...which I have never had allergies until this year. My Doc put me on Allegra -D and it helped. But its always wise with a cough that last that long to have it checked.
Hope you are feeling better soon.

My doc said that mos colds/coughs you get over in about a week, if it last longer you should come in and get it checked out. Long term coughs can be allergies, asthma, bronchitis, a secondary infection from what ever virus you had to start with.

My mom has a cough all the time when her throat gets dry.

If you don't want to go to the doctor, I'd try buying some Claritin D and using it for about a week. If it stops the cough, you probably have allergies. This is the time of year for leaf mold and grass pollens.

Yes, it could be allergies. I use to have a cough like all year round and it was from the drainage from my allergies. I take zyrtec-d and advair which helps. Also nose sprays can help but, I don't take them like I should. This is also my worst time of the year for it and migraines because of the pollen and dampness from the leaves and crops.
