What kind of comforter do you make your DH sleep under? :)

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive October 2004: What kind of comforter do you make your DH sleep under? :)
By Mommyathome on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 - 02:31 pm:

I was watching some of Dr. Phil yesterday. He was answering questions from viewers.
One lady wrote in and said she felt terrible for her dad because her mom had always picked out really girly (flowery) comforter sets. She didn't think her dad should have to sleep under all those flowers. She wanted her mom to get something a little more masculine.

Dr. Phil showed pictures of his bedroom from the last 10 years. The first picture was black and white flower print. The second picture was PINK lace everywhere.....very feminine looking. The current picture was dark wood furniture and a cream colored comforter set. Kind of masculine, but had feminine touches as well. (throw pillows....) Very pretty though. And very expensive looking.

So, I'm wondering what you all *make* your DH's sleep under.

My DH says he doesn't mind the girly looking stuff. He says it makes him feel taken care of LOL
We currently have a sage/light blue flower comforter. I really don't like it.
Before this one we had a plaid comforter set. I got it so it would be more gender neutral. But, it felt like a dorm room to me.
Before that we had the Croscill Chambord set. It's been my favorite out of all of them, but again flowery.
I would like to do something a little more dramatic. Maybe a nice deep red colored set. I would like a pattern on it, but not flowers.
DH could care less though.
What do you have? What would you like?

Dh used to sleep with this quilt he swore his grandmother made. It was a joke for years. The 'quilt' came from Ames Department Store for $29.99. I believe wedding ring pattern.

He was like a kid with that thing and slept with it until it had holes in it. I just had to throw it out one day.

Current, we have a tapestry comforter. Lots of creams, and earthy tones.

But get this, when we built on our bedroom, I asked dh what color bedroom he wanted and he picked out this pale pink. He picked it! Oh well, that was 11 years ago, I'm ready for a change.

my dh will let me have anything, but it does seem odd to me to have it too girly! We typically have a plaid, currently we have a navy and white plaid, navy sheers and then pink accents around the room (like roses, candles etc) It is dramatic because we have darker furniture. We used to have a hunter/maroon plaid, we have also had a black and teal thing (early 90's..lol). We have had a couple of solid color duvets and they just look dirty very quickly to me and I felt like I was washing them a LOT. So a print or plaid will always be my pick.

We have a hand-made quilt on our bed. We are getting ready to paint though, so I might pick out a new one.

By Janet on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 - 03:34 pm:

Ours is sage green on one side and dusty blue on the other. We are working toward a country French look, but it's slow. I think it depends on the man. Some just don't care how rooms are decorated. Others care deeply. I think it's only fair to take into consideration your dh's feelings, and find something you can both feel relaxed and comfortable in.

By Andyjoy on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 - 03:42 pm:

I'm not a flowery/girly comforter kind of person, so my dh won't have to worry about that! Ours is a down-filled quilt w/various plaid fabrics (maroon, navy, green) and a denim border. I only get to use it in the winter, however, because it's too warm otherwise. I'm looking for one to use for the rest of the year--probably something with lots of red.

By Fraggle on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 - 03:50 pm:

We have a white down comforter. The room is decorated in sage and wine colors and there are just a couple of pillows with a floral print. The room feels just right to me and DH, enough fabric to make me happy and enough wood and dark colors to make him happy. :)

By Rayanne on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 - 04:19 pm:

We have a cream comforter with green leaves on it. I didn't pick it out. If it were up to me, it would be just a little more feminine.:)

By Palmbchprincess on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 - 04:32 pm:

We have a big cream comforter, it was Nate's, and I'm in love with it, so I'm the one who won't give it up. I'm not big on the whole flowery bedroom thing. It's his room too... and I won't let him paint it crimson and cream for the Sooners, so I won't do anything he'd hate. :)

By Karen~moderator on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 - 04:41 pm:

Ours is seashells......and we both like it.

By Trisa on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 - 04:45 pm:

Ours is cream with mauve and green.
I would love an Amish quilt. When we were out and about with my mother over the weekend we priced them. They were all at LEAST $700!!!

By Momaroze on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 - 04:50 pm:

Cream with roses. As long as we have a top sheet under the comforter along with a sheet underneath of course, anything will do. :)

By Cat on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 - 05:07 pm:

I'm not into flowery stuff, so ours is pretty gender neutral. It's reds, greens and creams in star patters (think quilt, but it's a puffy comforter).

By Tink on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 - 05:18 pm:

Ours is turquoise, lime green and yellow plaid. Lots of white accents, kind of beachy, Caribbean.
In the winter, we have a brown and black animal print set we use.
Our furniture is black wrought iron (HEAVY!) so both sets look great without looking overly feminine. DH wasn't sure about the animal print until he saw how dark it was and now he loves it. DH is very particular about how I decorate in our room, the living room and the kitchen. The dks rooms are the only ones I can have free rein in.

By Imamommyx4 on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 - 05:23 pm:

Sage green and palm trees. Kind of a tropical feel. We both agreed on it.

By Sunny on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 - 05:24 pm:

Our current comforter is cream colored with a multi-colored flower and plaid print (it's very hard to describe!). It's really not feminine, although my DH really doesn't care. His attitude is, 'I can't see it when I'm using it, so what do I care?'

When we were first married, we used the 'comforter' from my old bed. It was a deep blue shag-rug remnant. My mother had bought it at a fire sale and instead of using it as a rug, I used it as a blanket (it worked great!). My DH became attached to it and I think he mourned its passing when I finally threw it away a few years ago. LOL

By Mommyathome on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 - 05:31 pm:

LOL Sunny :)

DH agreed with Dr. Phil....as long as ______(insert own wifes name here) is sleeping next to me, it doesn't matter.
Awww...how sweet LOL.

By Dawnk777 on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 - 06:15 pm:

Ours is blue with sunflowers on it! It's not that feminine. I would never make him sleep under a girly-girl comforter and maybe if I lived by myself, I wouldn't either!

By Fionadeassis on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 - 06:38 pm:

My Dh LOVES flowers!! Our duvet cover is pink and red bright fowers(from Ikea). Dh also doesn't mind pink which is good because it is my favourite colour.......but not light pink though...

By Bellajoe on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 - 06:45 pm:

Our first comforter was floral. Roses and vines and stuff, very pretty. My dh helped me pick it out, so he must have liked it. I was actually looking for stuff non-floral. But he kept migrating towards the floral stuff...oh well. I tried ! LOL.
That one is still our summertime comforter, it is not as heavy.

The one on the bed now is tan with some flowers. I don't think dh really cares, as long as he is sleeping somewhere comfortable.

By Andi on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 - 07:18 pm:

Ours is a floral Quilt and my DH could care less as long as it keeps him warm at night. :)

By Kate on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 - 07:38 pm:

Very flowery. :) Along with the matching bed skirt, numerous deco pillows, curtains, valences, throw rug, tissue box, trinket box, photo frame, and in the master bath, the matching shower curtain, window curtain, toothbrush holder, soap dispenser, and wastebasket. :)

By Kate on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 - 07:41 pm:

OH! I forgot! Matching wallpaper border, too! And PINK walls!!!! Light pink, but pink! Girls' rooms are super pink and feminine, too. DH doesn't mind a bit. It's all pretty.

By Insaneusmcwife on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 - 08:55 pm:

My dh will sleep under anything I put on the bed. He isn't picky at all. He is just grateful when he is able to sleep in HIS bed. The decorating of the house is my thing, he could care less.

By Kay on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 - 09:04 pm:

My dh doesn't care what our comforter looks like - it's what goes on *under* the covers that's more important to him! :)

By Bobbie~moderatr on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 - 09:38 pm:

dh tells everyone this is my house to do with as I please, I just let him live here. LOL No matter what I have wanted to use he has never said a word. Dh is the man that as long as he has a place to sit, food to eat, a hot shower and a place to sleep he is happy. Right now we have a very thick hunter green flannel with blue plaid comforter on the bed. During the warmer months we have a quilt that I throw over the bed that is solids with little flowers (hunter green, dark rose, country rose all with tiny white flowers on them)

By Cakekisses324 on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 - 11:27 pm:

We have a white down feather comforter right now.. but I change them out alot. I like quilts as well.

By Feona on Wednesday, October 13, 2004 - 05:54 am:

I prefer plain white. How boring. I got some colored sheets and they were not as soft as the plain old while. So I am happy. I can bleach away. Also I can mix and match all my sheets. How cheap is that? I grew up on soft old white sheets.

I also use a comforter cover. I used to use white, but now I have soft yellow and blue. I got bored of the plain white cover. I also got plain old white towels too. Everthing matches. Bleach away!
