Boo hoo!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive October 2004: Boo hoo!
By Trina~moderator on Thursday, October 7, 2004 - 08:17 pm:

DS (8) doesn't want to dress up for Halloween this year. He said Trick-or-Treating is "lame" and that he'd rather stay home and help Dad answer the door. I'm certainly not going to force him, but he's too young to give up Halloween! :( WAHH! Gosh, I went Trick-or-Treating until I was a teen!

By Colette on Thursday, October 7, 2004 - 08:21 pm:

I bet he either changes his mind by Halloween or decides after this year that he wants to go out again.

This is the first year I am letting my two oldest go on their own. I am a nervous wreck.

He'll eventually want to go with friends. I'm sure this won't be it for him! I trick or treated until 12 or 13.:)

Maybe its something he heard at school? You know how kids get, when one thinks something isnt cool, it kind of gets passed around.
My son is 10 yrs old, and is very excited about going trick or treating..We are just arguing about costumes, he wants to be something VERY scarey, and mean old mom sais "NO"

I bet he will change his mind by then. DS who is 10 is still into it and can't wait to get dressed up.

By Brandy on Friday, October 8, 2004 - 10:06 am:

Nick is still into it too he's 9 soon to be 10 on Nov.21st and alex of course is too he's 7 and is going to be 8 on Feb.21 like everyone else said he will want to go again some day..

What's the situation for Trick or Treat in your neighborhood? Maybe it is lame. Suggest a party for a few of his friends if that's the case.

By Audreyj on Friday, October 8, 2004 - 11:31 am:

Good idea, Bea.

My DH and I found orange t-shirts at Target that say in black, "THIS IS MY HALLOWEEN COSTUME!" Maybe you could get him a shirt like that (so he isn't dressed up like "little kid") and he can still go and get candy!

Thanks for all your replies and suggestions. My DS is kind of an odd bird when it comes to stuff like this. First off, believe it or not, he doesn't like candy so he doesn't see the point. The past couple years he has not gotten excited about dressing up. He did and went along with it but complained about wanting to go home the entire time we were out Trick-or-Treating. (Remember, Eve?! LOL!) We've been invited to parties and he never wants to go. This is my home body who prefers to stay HOME. A real introvert who would rather watch ESPN or look up athletes' stats on the Net. Oh well, not the end of the world. LOL!

LOL, I do remember, Trina. If he's happy and content, then I wouldn't worry about it.:)

Awww....I hope he has fun, whatever he decides on.

By Cocoabutter on Friday, October 8, 2004 - 09:38 pm:

I'm with the others in that he'll change his mind about dressing up, but b/c he might get a kick out of the reactions he can get at the door if he has a cool costume!

By Paulas on Saturday, October 9, 2004 - 01:19 am:

For me it would be horrible since I'm too old to dress up myself...how would I get MY candy???

Have a great time whatever he decides.
