Udate on dd learning disability

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive October 2004: Udate on dd learning disability

As I wrote in another post we were having a hard time getting things straightened out for my dd at school for her learning disability. I went into see the vice principal yesterday, as I found on one of dd worksheets, that she got 6/16 and a ! right beside the mark. He looked at it and said oh that is not a teacher who did that, that was a student ( because students mark papers) I am not so sure. In the end, she will have to do a modified math, but stay in the classroom, the teacher is suppose to be up on dd disability and if she is having problems getting throught to dd she is to speak to the La teacheres. Her teacher told the vice that dd knows alot more than she is letting on, and she comes to this conclusion, after only knowing her for a month. In dd's I P it does state that she does not retain things, and if she has spelling mistakes to ignore it. I just told the principal that if I find out dd is not getting the help she needs I will be sitting right back here at his desk, because I was not in agreement to her staying in the classroom for math, I still think she should be in learning resourse room, but because it does not go with the block order she can't ,poor excuse if you ask me. I am still wondering why the teacher thinks she is not trying her IP report that the teacher read says she is very modivated to learn, and trys really hard, kind of makes me mad to think she thinks dd is faking. If she thinks she is faking, then we are going to be in for a long year. The other day dd has this sheet that she got a 0 on, and the teacher asked her if she found it hard, and she said yes, and the teacher responded that it was not hard at all, then the other kids around piped up and said yes it was hard. Of course she found it hard, it was not a modified sheet that she was working off of, and if the other students had a hard time, what makes her think that dd could do it so easily. I did mention this to the vice, I told him that if dd says something is hard she better beilve her. I will be keeping an eye on this situation, I don't want to start any fights, just want dd to get the help that she needs.
