Can I get anything for a broke down car?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive October 2004: Can I get anything for a broke down car?
By Nicosmom on Monday, October 4, 2004 - 06:05 pm:

We have a third car that broke down a few months ago. It's a spare so we really don't want to put any money into getting it checked. We don't know what is wrong with it but it no longer runs. It is a '92 Geo Prism. When we first moved to this neighborhood people would come knock on our door and ask if we wanted to sell it, I have no idea why. I want to park it on the side of our house and put a for sale sign on it, but is it worth anything?

You can get a great tax deduction by donating it to charity. They will tow it away and sell it for scrap and parts and you will get a good tax write off while helping a charitable cause. That's what we attempted to do when DH's car died, but it was STOLEN from the mechanic's (with a tow truck no less!) while awaiting pick-up.

Dana, we just donated a car to hospice and I know that high school auto shops will often take them to work on. Make sure you have the pink slip or NO ONE will take it. My mom has been trying to sell her beatup BMW for $500 for about 18 months and no one will touch it. Good luck!
BTW, did you ever decide on a Jaoquin wallpaper? LOL

Thanks, I will probably end up donating it. Really, I just want it out of my garage. Yes Cori, I have the most beautiful Joaquin Phoenix wallpaper!
