Ebay question

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive October 2004: Ebay question
By Beth on Monday, October 4, 2004 - 09:34 am:

I have bought things on ebay many times and have never ran across this policy. I bid on three different lots from someone. I won them for 9.99, 9.99 and 10.50. They now want to charge me for the shipping stated in each auction plus $8.58 to send USPS. Once I found out I went back and read there policy again and that is what they are saying. But it is not very clear and it is confusing. I have never seen this before. You are actually better off not buying more then one lot from this person. YOu are getting charged shipping twice.

I always try and buy more then one item if possible just to save on shipping. It sounds like to me they are just making sure that they get what they want out of the items. Which you take that chance when you put it on ebay and they should have a reserve price not skin people with there shipping policy. I should probably just pay it but the difference is like $16.00. I knew it was to good to be true! I emailed them back and explained that I did not understand there policy and I am not willing to pay that. But I would be willing to pay what I bid on each lot plus the $8.58 to ship. If they don't like that I would pay the relisting fee.

Any other advice besides read very carefully next time! Have any of ever had an non payment thing before and what happens? I have actually two id's on there. One I used mostly at christmas time. Does it effect both? Thanks Ladies.

They can not charge more than stated in the auctions to ship - you can report them to ebay for that. HOWEVER they are NOT obligated to combine the shipping cost. You should have asked before you bid if they were willing to combine the shipping cost.

I am not clear on the extra 8.58. You are obligated to pay what the auction said. It is nice of them to combine shipping, but what is charged is shipping and handling, this means the box, the packing material and the labels. Frequent ebayers have everything pre packaged and good to go, so having to combine things is more difficult. Yes it will affect both of your id's. Is it that bad, probably not, but I think if it happens twice you get kicked off ebay. So I would consider paying it. But again, explain this extra charge. I would love to see the listing to see how they worded this too :)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=6710127408&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT Okay here is the link to one of the items I won. I hope it works because I have never done it before. Basically they have a set shipping fee for each lot. Then if you win more then one. You pay that shipping fee plus then you also pay an extra combined fee of $8.58. Which is what it probably cost them to actually ship. So for the link I gave you I pay the $9.99 bid plus the shipping stated which I believe is $4.99. Then in the end for all three lots combined I am getting charged another shipping charge. I just think its extravagent.

It looks like to me that she does combine shipping & that if more than one lot is purchase she only chages the actual postage - I don't see anything about an additional fee.

I don't understand why you are upset - it sounds like she is just trying to charge you the actual shipping of 8.58.

Also if you have already paid I would ask for a refund & ask her to send you a combined invoice so you can pay for it all at once.

Ditto Claire.

It looks pretty simple in the auction. She said that if you purchase more than one auction, you will get a combined shipping rate.
I'm thinking the actual combined rate is $8.58. E-mail the seller and ask for an invoice. If you are just paying each auction individually without asking for an combined invoice, you are automatically being charged for each seperate shipping amount.
The person has 100% positive feedback. So, I don't think they are being unfair. Maybe just check into it a bit more.
Good Luck! :)

Yes, you get the combined shipping of $8.58 but that is after you also pay individual shipping for each one. That was what the invoice showed. Like for that item I showedI pay $9.99, and 4.99 for shipping then in the end she charges me again a total shipping for all three. So you get charged for shipping twice. I did look at her feedback and a lot of it looks like things they have bought. Not necessarily sold. I think this is just going to be lesson learned.

I think you need to email her and ask her to expalin the shipping charges to you.

Gary had someone win two things that we were selling and gave the guy a break on shipping. I would email her and have her explain it, too.

I also think that maybe there is some miscommunication going on between the two of you. If your correct and that is the case that she is going to charge you MORE to combine shipping, then just tell her you don't want to combine shipping and pay for the 3 auctions seperatly. But I have never heard of having to pay MORE to combine shipping!

By Beth on Monday, October 4, 2004 - 03:19 pm:

You are exactly right Vicki it would have been cheaper if I had won each auction seperately. I am waiting to hear back from them still. Thanks for all the repsonses. Hopefully we will resolve it peacefully. If nothing else I am willing to pay there relisting fees.

One more thing - ebay's email system has been a bit hit & miss as of late I would also email to her personal account to make sure she gets it.
