Anything good to do there? My husband got me and my cousin a trip out there while the hubbies watch the kids for 3 days...what a great birthday gift! But, I don't know what shows are good? Anyone know ANYTHING about the shows or shopping? I haven't been there in 8 yrs. Gosh, I'm gonna miss my lil' boy!!!

By Mommyathome on Thursday, September 30, 2004 - 10:25 am:

The shopping is awesome in Vegas!!!! All of the high end stores are there. We like to go to Caesars Palace. They have lots of stores in there, and the Cheesecake Factory too.
Also, you'll want to see the fountains at the Belagio. Check for times that they do the fountain show. (it's like every 1/2 hour or hour) It is really beautiful.
As for show that you pay to see....I haven't been extremely impressed with any of them enough to rave about. There are lots of comedy shows. Modern comedy. Of course there are the showgirl shows.
Just go and relax. There are lots of beautiful pools in Vegas. Which hotel are you staying at?

By Debbie on Thursday, September 30, 2004 - 10:39 am:

Dh and I have gone to Vegas a few times. We usually spend one day just checking out all the hotels. They are really beautiful. Where are you staying?? We have gone to a few shows while there. They are very expensive though, tickets about $90.00 a person. The only two I would recommend are Danny Gans, and Cirque Du Soleil-O. They were worth the money. As far as shopping, Alladin Hotel has a neat mall and Caesars Palace is great.

Have a wonderful time!!

Go to the top of the Stratosphere for an awesome view! (I think it's like 5 or 6 dollars to ride up)
I always thought that the elevator on the way up would be clear so we could see out. But, it's enclosed. You go in at the bottom and then come out at the top! It's a very beautiful view!
There are also roller coasters up there, but I'm to scared for that!
There is a new one that is like a teeter-totter (sp?) It goes down off the side, and the back onto the top. "teeter-totter"

What a fun birthday present! We were there recently cleaning out my grandpa's house and really didn't have a whole lot of time for fun... I can say that I can't wait to go back with more time to just look around. I think just walking up and down the "strip" would be so much fun because of all the people. We did go to Circus Circus and I was NOT impressed (niether was my three year old). I didn't get a chance to look around but just the one trip down the strip I could see there are TONS to do. I think if there was one show I'd want to see I'd see the Cirque Du Soliel (sp?).

Have fun and I can't wait to hear all about it!

By Mommyathome on Thursday, September 30, 2004 - 02:28 pm:

Circus Circus is not a place I would recommend either. It is very dirty. I've never taken my kids there because there are lots of "scumbags" that loiter there. It's on the old part of the strip.

I went to Vegas for the first time in August, and I loved every minute of it! I say gamble, party and stay out until the wee hours of the morning. LOL :) I am very much a people person so the atmosphere felt awesome. I just loved walking around the strip and casinos. Have fun, what a nice vacation!

By Kaye on Thursday, September 30, 2004 - 05:26 pm:

As for shows, I didn't like Danny Gans, he is an impersonator, but did a lot of older people, I am 30 and I didn't know but 2 or 3 of the people he chose to do that night. So I think it really depends on your age and what his show is. (Debbie was it his dad's birthday on the night you went?) Our favorite show was Kenny Rodgers, but he was only there one night, another favorite was the second city comedy club. This is the show that feeds into Sat night live. It was a great improv. We also saw blue men group, it was okay, just REALLY loud. If you like stomp and such this is like that, but LOUDER!

By Andi on Thursday, September 30, 2004 - 06:06 pm:

I agree with EVERYTHING Stori said. It's your turn to have fun with no kids...enjoy it! If I were you I would get a Massage or something fun like that.
And if you don't have a lot of money to spend there is tons of stuff to look at and lots of places to walk around.

By Cakekisses324 on Thursday, September 30, 2004 - 07:02 pm:

I got married in Vegas!!! By Elvis!! It is exciting, fast, and allllloot of walking and alot of waiting..Have fun!!!

By Debbie on Thursday, September 30, 2004 - 09:05 pm:

Kaye, you are showing my age . I am closer to 40 and dh is mid-40's that is probably why we liked Danny Gans. No, it wasn't his Dad's birthday when we went, but it was a month after 9/11 when we saw him. He did a special tribute at the end and it was beautiful.

By Kaye on Thursday, September 30, 2004 - 09:25 pm:

Debbie the reason I asked is we went in March and he made a big to do about his dad and his birthday, the show was only about 45 minutes long (we paid 100 a seat..YIKES). Anyway, I was talking to a friend who went in oct of the same year and went on and on about the short show because it being his dad's birthday...LOL. Now we both wonder if that man was even his dad!

By Debbie on Thursday, September 30, 2004 - 11:13 pm:

LOL Kaye, I guess the 9/11 tribute he did for our show was long enough that he didn't have to use the material about his Dad's birthday!!

By Debbie on Thursday, September 30, 2004 - 11:14 pm:

P.S. Now that I think about it, dh and I had several cocktails before the show. Hummm, I wonder if that is why I remember him being extremely funny

I thought the Libarace museum was interesting. You see all the costumes he wore. You see his jewelery. If you are into that sort of thing.

Ceasars palace has a wonderful mall.

The water and light show and the bellagio. Just take a walk up the strip at night.

The buffet at the bellagio was very good. I think it was $15 a person five years ago.

I thought the chinese restaurant at the mirage was pretty good.

The red rock formations right out of town are very interesting.

By Feona on Friday, October 1, 2004 - 08:10 am:

The hilton used to have a star trek show. Borg. If you are into that....

By Feona on Friday, October 1, 2004 - 08:11 am:

Dh says the bellagio buffet is the best buffet in vegas. He used to have to go to a convention there most years.

By Feona on Friday, October 1, 2004 - 08:14 am:

They have that new casino with the italian gondolas. Forget which one though...

Thanks ladies! I've been offline since we are visiting friends/family in Colorado. But, we are leaving this Thursday morning! And, yes, we are DEFINITELY getting a spa treatment! I went and worked out with my cousin last Saturday and I'm SOOOOO sore. I did this "weightlifting" aerobics class and the instructor had THE perfect body...what an inspiration. My biceps and upper body are SO sore. Legs are fine so far. Looking forward to some sleep and shopping too! Should be a great 4 days! Thanks for the advice!
