Have any of you...

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive September 2004: Have any of you...
By Monicamomof3 on Thursday, September 23, 2004 - 09:23 pm:

used a string and a ring or a string with a needle in the eraser of a pencil and held it over your wrist or stomach to "find out" if you are having a boy or girl. Just wondering who has actually done it and if it was right. It has been wrong only once in my entire family. It was even right on me. If you keep holding the string it will usually stop and start again determining the sex of all your children in order! Before I was preg. with Audrey,my cousin did it on me and it said: girl, boy, girl, boy. Creepy, huh? Anyone ever heard of it?

By Colette on Thursday, September 23, 2004 - 09:28 pm:

No, but I "knew" in my heart what each one was.

By Rayanne on Thursday, September 23, 2004 - 10:18 pm:

I used my wedding ring and my chain and it worked for me. I had a girl.

By Marcia on Thursday, September 23, 2004 - 10:31 pm:

HA!! Mine said I would have 7 kids - b,g,b,g,b,g,b. I have been the mother of 7 kids, and 6 of them are girls.
I think it worked for my sis and SIL.

By Emily7 on Friday, September 24, 2004 - 12:03 am:

We did it for ds just to see if it was right. We had an amnio so we knew for sure, but just wanted to try it. It was right.

By Tink on Friday, September 24, 2004 - 02:36 am:

I've never even heard of this! OK, explain to me how it indicates boy or girl. I just "knew" what I was having with my oldest two but my youngest I wasn't sure, just hoped it was a girl.

By Kittycat_26 on Friday, September 24, 2004 - 07:59 am:

My mom tried this with me. She held a needle suspended by thread over my wrist. It said girl, boy. Now of course my first turned out to be a boy but she wanted a girl so bad that I think she willed it.

By Audreyj on Friday, September 24, 2004 - 08:04 am:

No, mine said I was having three boys and I had two girls. Funny thing, though, I didn't know if my babies were boys or girls when I was pregnant but my hubby knew they were both girls as soon as I got pregnant! (go figure.....)LOL

By Kernkate on Friday, September 24, 2004 - 08:40 am:

Monica I had that done years ago...don't remember what the out come was tho...but yea I have heard of it.

By Mommyathome on Friday, September 24, 2004 - 09:25 am:

Yes!! I swear by it LOL It's been right all along!

By Melanie on Friday, September 24, 2004 - 09:30 am:

I did it and it said boy, boy, girl, girl. We got the boy, boy, girl, but now we are done. :)

My SIL has done it twice. Once back east with her family and once here with me. She didn't tell me when I did it with her, but the results came out the same: Girl, boy, girl, girl. It was right with the first one!

By Janet on Friday, September 24, 2004 - 09:43 am:

A lady at church did the needle/thread thing over me with my 2nd dd... it was wrong (the first time she'd ever been wrong, so she claimed! LOL)! It was weird, having all my friends gathered around my stomach, though...

By Janet on Friday, September 24, 2004 - 09:46 am:

Here is something that I've personally never seen fail, although I don't know how! LOL

http://www.yourradioplace.com/birthchart.htm

It's an "Ancient Chinese birth chart" that will predict the sex of your baby. You need to be sure to use your age at the time of conception and the month of conception, or it won't work!

By Mrse on Friday, September 24, 2004 - 10:08 am:

The way my mom did it was with a needle and thread over the wrist, mine was right 3 girls, and my sister's 1 showed, and that is all she had. My daughters are done, and well lets just say I am keeping my huge kitchen table, 1 is having 4 kids, next 3 , and my oldest is only having 1 child. I really believe it will be correct, and the amount of children really suits, each of my kids personalities. It has never been wrong, in our family.

By Melanie on Friday, September 24, 2004 - 10:17 am:

The Chinese chart Janet posted was right for one out of three of my kids. :)

By Palmbchprincess on Friday, September 24, 2004 - 10:33 am:

I did the carnation test, and it was right. You take a pink carnation, and a blue one (the florist will dye it) and put them in a vase. Leave them alone, and one will shrivel up in a few days, the other will stay open. The open one is what you are having. My boss when I was pregnant was also pregnant. This had worked for her and a few of my coworkers, so I tried it. I didn't know I was having twins at this point. I couldn't figure out WHY the carnations didn't change at all. After a couple weeks the blue one shriveled. A day later the pink did. Then I found out it was twins, and one was a boy, but we didn't know what the second baby was. Girl!! So in hindsight it was right!!

By Monicamomof3 on Friday, September 24, 2004 - 10:44 am:

The chinese chart was right with one out of 3 of my children. The string said g,b,g,b with me. Am I having a 4th??????? :0 O well. Hey- every wonder what makes that string move? CREEPY! LOL!

By Kay on Friday, September 24, 2004 - 11:40 am:

The chinese chart got 1 out of 3 right for me, too - doesn't sound like a great average, does it? :)

By Mommyathome on Friday, September 24, 2004 - 12:20 pm:

The chinese chart got 2 out of 3 for me.

BTW...when I do the string/needle test...I do it over my wrist, not my belly. And, it still works, even if your not pregnant :)

By Monicamomof3 on Friday, September 24, 2004 - 12:54 pm:

yeah, I do it over my wrist as well. Worked!

By Melana on Friday, September 24, 2004 - 04:37 pm:

That chinese chart was right for both of mine.

By Cakekisses324 on Friday, September 24, 2004 - 05:03 pm:

I hear chinese chart nails it!

By Dawnk777 on Friday, September 24, 2004 - 06:20 pm:

Nope, I never did that! LOL! I thought First dd was going to be a boy! I was wrong! So, I decided not to "decide" when I was pregnant the second time and was "surprised" with another DD!

By Tink on Saturday, September 25, 2004 - 02:41 am:

OK...WHAT is this??? I asked a bunch of friends about this and no one has heard of it! How do you tell if it is saying boy or girl? I'm so confused! LOL

By Mrse on Saturday, September 25, 2004 - 05:23 am:

Ok first, it does not matter if you are pregnant or not, you, can hold a needle with a thread over some ones wrist, and if the needle goes round and round you will have a boy, if back and forth it is a girl . It also shows all children , born or otherwise. it has worked for my family.

By Mommyathome on Saturday, September 25, 2004 - 11:22 am:

LOL Mrse....maybe it *is* all in my head....we've always done it where round and round is a girl, and back and forth is a boy. Based on *that* method, it's been right all along.

By Bobbie~moderatr on Saturday, September 25, 2004 - 10:30 pm:

Okay, How do you do this? I wanna play too...

By Rayanne on Monday, September 27, 2004 - 11:25 am:

I just did the string thing. I held a string with a needle through it over my wrist and it said girl, boy. Then it stopped and would not move anymore. I am only having 2 kids and that is exactly what I want. I also want one of each.

By Christylee on Monday, September 27, 2004 - 11:36 am:

We did this for me and it said a boy then a girl... We are done with just Brendan but maybe we were meant to have a girl afterwards. We also did it on my sister, it showed a baby she miscarried and then her daughter and son.

By Monicamomof3 on Monday, September 27, 2004 - 11:39 am:

YEAH, it showed many of my friends miscarriages too. How does it work, I wonder?

By Conni on Monday, September 27, 2004 - 11:58 am:

IT showed I would have ALOT of boys and 1 girl. LOL I had a miscarriage and I think that was my girl. :( I certainly have alot of boys. :)

I did this 12 yrs ago when I was pregnant with my 1st child. I have to say looking back it was accurate for me. Kind of wierd.
