Pinched nerve in my neck:(

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive September 2004: Pinched nerve in my neck:(
By Marg on Monday, September 13, 2004 - 10:30 am:

Ok, I'm not supposed to do much for the next 4-6 weeks because I have a pinched nerve in my neck. lol, I have dh on crutches and 3 dds, what does she expect? I thought it was tendonitis in my shoulder and upper arm. That's the good news, no tendonitis.

The dr. gave me a foam neck brace to sleep with... I feel like a dog who has to where one of those funnel cones so they don't scratch.

I'm on 800mg of Ibuprofen. It knocks me out and makes me so sleepy.

I'm really debating whether to go to a Chiropractor. I used to go to one and she is really good and gentle.

The dr. told me if I'm not better in 4-6 weeks they will do X-rays and mri's.

Anyone ever have this?

I had big problems with my neck- and ended up with MRI and xray. They still couldn't find anything. It turns out, I ripped the muscle on the right side (it's a big one). The only thing that helped was a shot of cortizone. It still bothers me (it happened 4 years ago). It's horrible when your neck hurts! I hope you feel better soon!

I just went through this, plus my back was out. I had went to the chiropractor for a week everyday, and this time it did nothing. I went to my doctor, and she said I was having muscale spasms, and she said the best thing to do was to do some neck exercises, stretch the muscales, move my head back and forth, it you turn your neck one way to make sure you do the same the other way. I was off work for a week, lost week pay, spent money on two prescriptions , musacle relaxers, and antinfamatories, I was nauseaus, dizzy, and no energy. After seeing my doctor going begining of the second week, I did the exercises, and within 15 min, the dizzyness went away, and my stomache stopped rolling!! My doctor said if you do not keep moving you will sease up. I am just telling you what happened to me, check with your doctor and see if you can do the exercises first. It helped me, but not the case for all. Sorry to hear you are having a tough time, I feel for you, been their, not fun.

thanks lauram and mrse:) She told me to relax my 'posture' as much as I can. Very poor posture, I sat at a desk for almost 16 years 'hunched' over.

I really thought it was my shoulder and tendonitis. She told me and showed me which limited exercise to do. But without the pain pills I have major pain and they make me sick to my stomach and tired:(

I had a pinched nerve in my mid back that affected my arm. I too thought tendontis, I was given some antiinflamatories and they helped but I was drugged. One am I woke and couldn't feel my arm, I decided that I needed something else. I went to the chiropracter and he did wonders for me. I haven't been since, but would go again for that same thing.

{{{Marg}}} Hope you will be feeling better soon. I have always had neck problems, my chiropractor has always helped me.
Feel better soon:)

Last year I had pain in my right arm and neck. I thought I had a pinched nerve, but then the pain got much worse. I went to several doctors and ended up having an MRI. I had a ruptured disc and ended up seeing a Neurosurgeon. I had surgery done a week and a half later. The pain before surgery was the worse pain I have ever experienced. Much worse than child birth if you can believe it. I would suggest you get an MRI done if it contiues. I would do it before seeing a chiropractor. My doctor told me that I could have caused more damage had I gone to a chiropractor. I have been pain free and doing great since surgery. Good luck. Let us know what you do.

Poor thing! I hope you feel better!

By Cocoabutter on Monday, September 13, 2004 - 10:47 pm:

I had a stiff neck and my doctor (an osteopath) did a neck manipulation and gave me some muscle relaxers, not pain pills.

Good Luck!

good luck

Did they say you could swim? Swimming is great for any back pain. I have had pinched nerves. Could even be the muscles pressing on the nerve.

Swimming loosens up the muscles. Relaxes the back.

Rolfing helped me. :)

By Marg on Tuesday, September 14, 2004 - 08:35 am:

Feona what is rolfing, I know you wrote about it before, could you please explain.

No where I can swim, I'm not joined to the local Y too $$$.

I am so sorry Marg.
I know how you fell because I am STILL having
pain in my neck, arm, shoulder and still having sciatic pain. The cortazone shots I got lasted 1 month. I really thought I was cured and was so excited that I felt normal again. Then It came back. Yes its very hard to relax with kids!!
I hope your neck feels better soon. {{{{HUGS}}}}
