Freecycle

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive September 2004: Freecycle

Has anyone here ever used Freecycle? I just heard about it and joined this weekend, but haven't used it yet. It really looks interesting. Just curious if any of you have used it and what you thought about it.

Yep! I joined a while ago. I have gotten rid of a ton of stuff and we received a game controler my son has wanted forever but is no longer made.

we joined our local freecycle. It is neat. We have only got one thing and haven't posted anything yet. It is neat to look at at least for now. We get the individual e mails because things get taken very quickly. It is amazing what people have the gall to ask for.

I have to post an offer first and then I can take something if I want to. I mainly signed up because I always give stuff away when I'm not using it anymore so this will probably work out really well for me. I like the idea that I can give something that is still good, but that I no longer use to someone who needs or wants it.

I am already amazed at what people are asking for, but I am amazed at some of the stuff people are giving away as well. Some very nice stuff by the sound of it.

I have a gift drawer (more like closet) that I completely unloaded on Freecycle. There were so many thing in my back room that I couldn't throw away but had no clue who to give it to. I had a lot of gifts I had no use for that I couldn't regift so freecycle was great. Everyone who picked up the stuff were so happy to get it. It is definitely a great concept. We only received the controller. I joined mainly to give away things not necessarily receive anything.
Enjoy it. It is a great program!

It's awesome!! I joined a few days ago and have already given away a Little Tikes toybox and now have had 28 offers on an old Playstation. It's a great way to get rid of stuff that I don't need but someone else could use.

I joined a few weeks ago and have gotten rid of a few things. I'm not much of a "keeper" but I always have kids' clothes or toys that are still good, just not good for my kids.

What is this???

By Pamt on Monday, September 20, 2004 - 09:33 pm:

It's an email group (ours is through yahoo groups) for people to locally recycle things they no longer want or need and a resource to find obscure things you may want/need for FREE. For example, I offered a toybox, an old Playstation, and a child's suitcase and the toybox and suitcase have already been taken. The Playstation will be picked up Wed. and I requested a bike for me and now I am getting a free bike. It operates on the "one man's trash is another man's treasure" concept and is very Flylady friendly :). And you can pick who you want your stuff to go to. For example, out of the 35+ emails I received from people wanting my Playstation I picked a mom who fosters kids. Does she really? I don't know for sure, but I'm assuming she wouldn't lie. So far the people I've met who have taken my stuff have been really nice. It's *community* at its finest.

Ok, so Im a little late on this post.
I just recently found freecycle and Im so addicted to it.. Ive given away so much stuff. Mainly Ive given away alot of boys clothes. My son is 10 and we have saved everything. Its a real hoot on how manypeople want stuff..
It makes me want to go through all these boxes as people really want this stuff.

By Feona on Tuesday, November 30, 2004 - 07:49 am:

They want everything. If you have some potatos that are going. You will get someone to take them....

Feona
You are so right on that. I like when I post that I have box of boy clothes. And, then in less then 5 seconds I will have 10 email responses.

I love Freecycle! I've been a member for a couple of months now and I've gotten rid of so much stuff that was too good to trash, but I didn't want or need anymore. I still find one or two things a week that I post on Freecycle. It's great because whatever I post is usually taken in five minutes (or less) and picked up that day or the next so it's out of my way fairly quickly.

I have taken a couple of things off there too and I have been really pleased.:)

I have about 30 things and about 5-6 people coming to look at them and take them away today and tomorrow! Great way to get rid of things and great way to pick up things needed for free! Excellent concept!
