Nice Labor Day surprise

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive September 2004: Nice Labor Day surprise
By Karen~moderator on Monday, September 6, 2004 - 03:56 pm:

DH had to work today, as did Jeff. Jen said she was staying at home at her Dad's to study for a final tomorrow (Massage therapy school). Jules is working, and oldest DS Jason couldn't be reached.

I'm sitting here alone in the house all morning and decided to start cleaning out Jen's old room. There's all kinds of garbage in there from high school, and just plain trash and junk in the bottom of the closet. Filled up 2 lawn bags with stuff and organized the closet.

After I'm nice and sweaty, Jeff calls from work and tells me he and Katheryn want to eat dinner with us tonight!! A much needed lift today!

So I stop cleaning and start cooking food - I made cole slaw, pasta salad, garlic bread (ready to go in the oven), and took out some chicken breasts and baby back ribs, which DH will grill when he gets off work. Trying to decide whether to make a Caeser salad or vegies on the grill. Not sure how much of it I'll actually be able to eat, but I WILL enjoy having Jeff and Kat here.

So, at least my day isn't a total wash..........what's everyone else doing today??

Mmmmm.... can I come over for dinner too? I just threw some ground turkey out to thaw and i'm just gonna put together a quick casserole with veggies and something else, not sure what yet.

I miss DH today and am counting down til he gets off work, which is what I do every Monday :). Since he works with Marine recruits hes rarely gets off holidays like this.

So, i'm counting the minutes til my daily soap opera is on (Passions... LOL) and DD takes a nap because DH usually walks in the door as soon as the soap is over :)

I was thinking the same thing Melissa:)

We didn't do much dh and middle dd don't feel very good today. In fact, it looks like I still might have to drive dh to work tomorrow:(

I've done 6 loads of laundry, lots of ironing, and am waiting to paint cabinets as soon as DH drills out the hinges (which I can't get off with a screwdriver b/c the screws are stripped). Cleaned myself up and DH and I went to a couples shower for his asst. All 20-somethings and then us :) but we had a nice time. About to run to Wal-Mart for a few things--ugh :(--and then painting, grilling out, and doing homework. I was REALLY lazy yesterday and took a 3 hour nap after church!

Pam, you're painting cabinets tonight????? Yikes!
I *was* going to Wal-Mart and the mall today, but I didn't feel like leaving the house. I've spent the last couple hours watching Law & Order reruns, guess I'll get myself cleaned up and start getting things ready....

Happy Labor Day!

Karen, hope you are having a great time with Jeff and Katheryn..{love the name mine is Kathryn}:)
We had a nice day today...a friend of DH's came over and cooked for us. We had beef cubes smothered in onions and garlic, red potatoes and a tossed salad...it was so yummy. Especially with someone else doing the cooking.
Hope you have a great night with the kids!!
Happy Labor Day to you!

MMMMMMMMM that sounds delicious! Have you ever done red potatoes on the grill?? We slice them lengthwise about 1/4" wide and coat them in olive oil and Tony Chacheres' creole seasoning. We do squash and zuchini on the grill that way too - I ended up preparing that instead of making a Caesar salad. It's yummy!

I'm glad to hear you had a good day Kathy, you deserve it!!!!

By Kernkate on Monday, September 6, 2004 - 07:29 pm:

Thanks Karen. Never had red potatoes done that way but it sounds excellent have to try it, but I am sure I won't find Tony Chacheres' creole seasoning around here. And the squash and zuchini on the grill sound great. I have made them breaded but never on the grill...Thanks for the great ideas:)
I am headed back outside now...DH and DSD are waxing her car. It was a fun day. Just enough fun with everyone to lift me up a bit.

Apparently, I need to get a life, IRL. I had to work this morning and my mom took all 3 dks to the beach. DH has to work tonight so he is in bed. All of my friends have plans so I am here with you guys. At least the TV isn't blaring and I can drink my tea and listen to some music quietly. It sounds like you had a great day.
