Has anyone ever done Slim Fast??

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive September 2004: Has anyone ever done Slim Fast??
By Vicki on Thursday, September 2, 2004 - 10:55 am:

I have decided to do Slim Fast for breakfast and lunch and then eat dinner. I have been doing this since Monday and it is better today (maybe because I am busy cleaning) but I am finding myself hungry!! The shakes each have 220 calories in them, so that should be enough to keep me satisified! I am sure that it is just that my body is trying to get used to this, but how long does that take? Anyone know??

By Janet on Thursday, September 2, 2004 - 10:57 am:

I tried it for awhile, but I would get SO HUNGRY about an hour after I'd had one...I couldn't stick with it. I also stopped because my teenage dd began asking if she could have them instead of meals, and I definitely don't want her on the dieting track at this age. Now we just try to eat sensibly and make healthy snack choices. I don't "do" hungry well..I get grumpy. So I don't know how long it takes for a body to get used to Slim Fast..sorry!

I did a few years ago but I got hungry as well. And the truth is, you cant live on Slim Fast diets forever and once you get off them it doesnt take that long to get back into old eating habits. I've learned that im not a person to diet so I just exercise and walk 3 miles a night with the dogs.

I tried that too and like everyone else, got really hungry about an hour later. My friend does it, but only for lunch. She usually has a slimfast and some fruit or yogurt.

I tried this also a few years ago to lose some baby weight. I wasn't very successful though. I lost weight on my own. I always got extremely hungry and couldn't wait to drink one, then I'd still want more.

My aunt claims that she lost 4 lbs. doing SlimFast. I don't see how she could have b/c she would eat McDonalds for breakfast! For lunch with her SlimFast she would eat peanut butter crackers and other snacks.

I have lost 4 and a half pounds since Monday morning. Now mind you, that is starting the diet and I have more than a couple of pounds to loose, so I know that it is working! My problem is that once I start to eat something, it is like I can't stop. LOL So actually doing this is a good choice for me. I also do not normally eat breakfast, so this at least gets something in me in the morning. I eat dinner at 4 with dd when she gets home from school, so by about 8 in the evening I am hungry again. LOL I have been doing great at sticking with it, but I just wonder when these hungries will go away!!

I tried it before my wedding in 1990 and I lost about 30 pounds, but I was very active and I DIDN'T go without eating. I used to have my shake with 2 Quaker Chewy granola bars each for bkfst and lunch. You can't go without food any more than your car could go without gas.

I have also tryed slimfast, I did not feel hungry. I had dizzy spells, and everything went black for a few seconds, that is when I stopped using it, and went back to eating, and I was following all the rules.

wow 30 lbs how long did it take you to lose that much weight?

I honestly think the best way to lose weight is to exercise before you eat breakfast and eat food every 2 hours. When you do exercise, do least 20 minutes...cardio one day and weights another. I've lost 15 pounds doing this. "FIT FOR LIFE" is SUCH a great book to learn how to do this. There's a specific way you have to exercise too...increase intensity every minute, up to 5 minutes, then start over. I've been doing it before and after my newborn and it's just a good habit to get into. Of course, if he's up every 3 hours at night, it's a little harder...
It's honestly WHAT TIME you exercise (before breakfast burns fat, not the food you just ate) and protein shakes help. I don't like breakfast, so I'll have a protein shake. They are more filling than SlimFast. I also try to eat 6 times a day and include food that have a lot of water in them. Water, water, water...sometimes we think we are hungry but we are actually thirsty...ok, I'll stop rambling...get the book "Fit for Life". It teaches you that muscle burns more calories (hence lifting weights...doesn't have to be big weights and even cans of corn can do! LOL!) and why it's important to eat 6 times a day with the right food. I even think the author has a cookbook out there too now? HTH because I've BTDT with SlimFast and I was starrrrrving.....

My MIL has been doing slim fast for years now. She has never lost weight from it yet. She recently started a new diet (I think it's the south beach diet) and has lost a noticeable amount.
