Who has a hand vac?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive September 2004: Who has a hand vac?

I am thinking of getting one. We have a four level house with very thick rugs. There is always cereal and other junk on the floor but vacuuming takes forever and is really hard on my back

I thought if I had a little hand vac I could just get up all the little spots that show......

Who has one? what kind? do they really work?

We have a Black and Decker Dirt Buster. It works very well. I use it in areas where my upright is too powerful. Areas such as the towel where our litter box rests or an area rug by our back door.

I use a Dirt Devil with the revolving brush, which was really great for getting cat hair off of upholstery. The bags are expensive, but I empty them several times and re-use before I have to replace.

But, if what you are after is cereal and stuff like that, how about one of those lightweight stick vacuum cleaners with the cup that you empty instead of a bag. The problem with using a hand vac for stuff on the floor is that it won't be kind to your back either. I bought my mom one of those stick vacs several years ago and she loved it. She kept it upstairs and used it there and was overjoyed that she didn't have to wrestle the heavy cannister vacuum cleaner up and down the stairs. I have one that I use for bare floors and light stuff and wouldn't be without it.

Eureka make a couple of cordless vacuums. I bought mine at pc richards. One is the stick vacuum - okay for quick pick ups. The other is a cordless vacuum about $60 good for heavy duty regular vacuuming. The thing is that unless you have two on every floor they aren't charged when you need it.

Also the heavy duty one isn't that sturdy and will break in a year. Maybe it will last longer....

The stick vacuum about $30 is very good especially for the kitchen.

So I would buy one eureka cordless for the kitchen and 1 eureka regular $60 vacuums for each floor so you don't have to go up and down the stairs with vacuums.

I want the little handvac just to suck up under the dining rooom table(why do people put rugs in the dining room?)and in the family room under the coffee table....other than that the rugs don't get really dirty anywhere else, so I don't mind doing the regular vacuuming once in a while.....

Thanks everyone....
