We are planning a very impromptu DC trip next week, yes, next week with the kids!!!
We are all excited because we have always wanted to take the kids on this adventure....
My stepmom is coming along to help out with almost 3 month old Bella....
Anyone that has been there, do you have any advice, tips or words of wisdom?
Of course, we are doing all the must things, but is there any off the beaten path that we shouldnt miss??

Thanks!!!

We were there last month. My kids (ages 7 and 9) enjoyed the Smithsonian. You can spends days at all the museums. We rode the subway which was an experience for them. We tried to visit the monuments but found a lot of them were barricaded with heavy security.
Have a great time!

We just went in July. Off the beaten path for us was the National Catherdral, it isn't too far from the zoo, a quick bus trip. But it was beautiful, there is a small tour, we didnt' go on it, we just looked around. There is a gargoyle of darth vader on the roof :) Also when you go upstairs it is a unique perspective of dc. We rode the subway most of the time. Also they have Pandamaniac.com, painted pandas all over. My kids loved hunting those down. Their favorite was the rembrant bear, probably close to the art museum, but across from the candian embassy. We walked all through that area and they had neat statues etc. Oh and arlington cemetary was neat, they do a changing of the guard every half hour, my children enjoyed that. Probably the favorite thing to do was the hands on science lab in the american history museum, also there I think is where they housed the "star spangled banner". We went to the national archives to see the constition and bill of rights, thought it was neat, but long line and wait made the kids finished. The scultpure garden was nice. Also if you call your congressman you can get a tour of the capital building.
