Might be moving to Maryland??

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive August 2004: Might be moving to Maryland??
By Mrsheidi on Friday, August 27, 2004 - 11:40 am:

My husband just interviewed for a job in Maryland and they are willing to help us sell our house, pay for our move, and get us a realtor to get another house. The job would be in Abingdon, Maryland and while it's exciting for him with all these perks...I'm SO nervous!! I was born and raised in Colorado and we have lived in WA, NC, and now AL. (Army life- we are out now) Never have I lived in Maryland and I was wondering if anyone knows of the area? I am also nervous about making friends now that I paused my teaching career. We are fairly active in the church, but I'm still nervous. I looked at houses out there and I can't believe the difference in the cost of living. How is the Baltimore area? Weather? I miss the outdoors of Colorado so I'm hoping the weather isn't disappointing. Gosh...so nervous...I've never sold a house in my life...

I've lived on Maryland twice (Dh is AF). We lived in Laurel, MD by Ft. Meade back in 1992 and lived at Andrews AFB from '99-'01. Now we live in Colorado and love it! I can tell you the humidity is a LOT different from Colorado. But if you've lived in NC (dh is from Raleigh) and AL you can deal with that. There are so many places in MD to visit (both the DC area and Baltimore). I really didn't like living in MD but that was mostly because I don't like big cities and it really seemed that's all there was there. I did work in Bowie for a year and liked that, so I guess it's not all bad. :) If you approach it like other military moves (even thought you're not military anymore) and expect a great adventure by going into the move with the attitude it's going to be great, half the anticipation battle will be won! Good luck with your decision. We've lived lots of places also, and each place has it's ups and downs. Hugs!

You will be close to the ocean:):):)

That's all that matters to me!

I live in South Central PA and love the change of seasons we have here.

I've heard that Maryland is a really nice place to live. I had a best girlfriend move there in highschool and she never came back to California, so it must have been nice! LOL
I hope it all works out for your family :)
