Freezers???

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive August 2004: Freezers???

I have been wanting to purchase a freezer, preferably upright & frost~free. But money wise the less expensive would be chest and frost~full!! LOL

Does anyone here own one that they are satisfied with? I'm not sure what brand is most reliable etc...TIA

I have had my Kenmore upright freezer for 8 years. It allows to purchase a full cow every year & that saves us money on groceries because we get it for about 1.87 a pound processed.

If at all possible, go with the upright. I just know if I had a chest freezer, I would always want what was at the bottom of the silly thing!!!

I have a huge chest freezer, and it's great! I put some big baskets on the bottom, and use them to keep it organized. Meat in one, veggies in one, bread in one. Small stuff goes in the baskets it came with. It is deep, but it's never really been a problem.

I have a huge, hideous, Sears Coldspot upright that was my moms and is around 25 years old. I've had it in my house for many years and it has never had a problem. We keep saying we're going to get rid of it, but I'm so used to having all this freezer space, I just can't bring myself to give it up.

We use to have an upright, but didn't bring it along when we moved. Loved it, it was wonderful!
My inlaws have a deepfreeze (the big chest kind) and it drives me insane to get stuff out of there. It's all "organized" I guess you would say. Ice creams area all on one side, meats in another spot, frozen veggies somewhere else. BUT...it's all stacked up on top of each other. You really have to dig to see what all is in there.
If we were to get another freezer (which I would love to!) we would go for the upright frost free.

We have a Kenmore. It was a hand me down from DH's Father when he passed away. We had the same type before that. I don't think I could give ours up. I don't know how people with a big family fit all the frozen food in their freezers! I love being able to buy things when they are on sale: ice cream, english muffins, shredded cheese. Plus, being able to make 2 trays of lasagna, and freezing one for another time. Life saver!:)

Well,
It looks like we will be buying an upright. Sears is having a good sale, so we may be up and running by Saturday!

I have an upright also. My mom, sister, grandma and aunt all have chest and I hate having to dig through them.. Thus the upright... LOL

Its done! :)
Can ya tell I'm excited. I bought a Frigidaire Upright freezer frost free! We went to Sears, so I had them price match their website price and used a $30.00 off coupon I had. It was cheaper to buy it at the store then at their scratch and dent warehouse here in town.
(never in my life would I have thought a freezer could cause excitement! LOL)

Stori, I totally understand! When my mom gave me hers, I couldn't wait to fill it up. I'm the kind of person who sale shops for meat and I like to stock up when it's cheap. When the kids were all at home and younger, I'd only buy meat once every 4-6 weeks, but I had to have somewhere to keep it all. This old upright we have has been a Godsend.

Karen,

It comes on Monday so I'm sure by the end of the week it will have a few food items! LOL

This will come in handy because I like to have a few treats on hand for the kids but I don't like them to see. Out of sight, out of mind :)

By Karen~moderator on Friday, August 20, 2004 - 11:33 am:

Stori, mine actually has a key lock on the door - it came that way. So, even though the stuff may have been out of sight, I could make SURE it was out of mind - or at least out of hands! LOL
