MIL collapsed last night:(:(:(

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive August 2004: MIL collapsed last night:(:(:(
By Melana on Monday, August 16, 2004 - 05:03 pm:

I just got a call from one of my SIL telling me she collapsed and has been having chest pains. She said they are going to do surgery and put "stints"(I think she meant shunts) in both of her heart valves. She's already had a double bypass, and I know my DH is going to take this really hard. I don't know how to tell him besides just kind of blurting it out. They are saying she'll be fine, that she's talking and eating alright, just being her normal self, but DH will freak when I tell him. To be honest, I'm worried too! I'm just starting to get close with her, I hope she's alright. Well, sounds like he's home....I hate being the bearer of bad news!!

Prayers for your MIL.

Stints are the right word. I'll be praying for all of you.

Well let me just add a bit of info. If she had bypass surgery this means the arteries to her heart (from her heart) were blocked and they had to replace them. Stints are used when these blockages are smaller it is like inserting a drinking straw to keep the arteries open. It is not done through major surgery like bypass, rather they do an Angiogram, which is a wire/camera that is slid up into the heart from the femural (i think that is the right word) artery, the big one in your leg, if all goes well she is home and herself very quickly. It is NO where the same as open heart surgery. It is concerning that she is having issues again, nothing to take lightly, but since passing out I bet the docs keep a closer eye on her. Good luck.

she won't change her eating habbits, which is why she's still having problems. Now, today is just HORRIBLE, after recieving that call, telling DH, my dd fell on the computer and broke one of her new top teeth!! I think she swallowed what broke off of it, but it's not to the gum line, and she's ok now....but GEEZ, how much can you take in one day???`

Wow, how scary. I think you mean "stents!"

Stents

Sorry about your dd falling. Ugh!

My Dad had a double bypass back in 1998 and then last year he had angioplasty and they put in stents. Now he's complaining about chest pain and his muscles hurting and how he feels exhausted. He has a doctor's appt Sept. 1st and refuses to go to the emergency room or tell his doctor because he doesn't want his job to put him on short term disability.

Also like your MIL, my Dad won't change his eating habits even when my mom tries to fix him good food. He still wants all of the junk food. My mom said to my dad, maybe you'll start eating the right food now. He said he'd rather die :( than eat that c**p.

Sorry if I sound like I'm hijacking the thread, I don't mean to. Just thought I'd let you know that you're not alone. My dad doesn't eat right either. At least he quit smoking back in 1998. :)

My FIL was diagnosed with diabetes several years ago, and is really overweight, but he (and my MIL) won't change their habits. Cake, cookies, pie... it's all a staple of farm life, it seems (my DH will grab cookies for breakfast!). Prayers for your MIL and DD (and hugs for you!)
