It's a school night!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive August 2004: It's a school night!
By Annie2 on Sunday, August 8, 2004 - 05:09 pm:

I can't believe the first day of school for my kids is tomorrow. :( Back to a routine! No more staying up late and sleeping in late. Bummer.

By Trina~moderator on Sunday, August 8, 2004 - 05:35 pm:

We still have one month of summer left. My kids don't go back until 9/7. I'm not looking forward to getting back into the school routine. It's tough! {{{HUGS}}}

my kids start 8/30. i'm not looking forward to it either. my dd starts junior high and ds starts kindergarten. i was wondering, we live in las vegas and the kindergarteners only go for 2 1/2 hours. is this normal? i remember going for the whole day.

I went to K when it wasn't mandatory by the school system. I went to K, like a preschool, at the Y, for which my parents had to pay. Some years back :)

K here is all day.

We have one more week until our baby starts 8th grade. Her older brother and sister will be a junior and sophomore in college - time does fly!

Payday, our district has half day Kindergarten (8:45-11:30). They contemplated full day but simply don't have the room for it. Only 3 available classrooms and 6 classes worth of kids - A.M. and P.M.. I taught full day Kindergarten but personally preferred half day for my own kids.

By Tink on Sunday, August 8, 2004 - 07:42 pm:

Wow, whole day Kindergarten isn't even an option in this area! I didn't realize that it was the norm anywhere. Here it is 8:30 to 12:00 and 11:30 to 3:00. My dks started in July and are off track this month. They will go back on the 30th.

By Melanie on Sunday, August 8, 2004 - 07:48 pm:

I hope your kids have a great first day, Annie!

Our kids go back three weeks from tomorrow. Summer has flown!!

K kids here go from 8:30-12:00. Last year ds was a first grader in a K-1 classroom. The K kids left at 12 and the first graders stayed until 2:15. I loved that! For two hours a day the teacher had just 8 kids to work with. I hope our dd will be so lucky! :)

Where I live, K is a regular school day, and K is required.

By Sue3 on Sunday, August 8, 2004 - 09:03 pm:

Where I live K kids go every other day which are full days then mon. and Wed.`s kids alternate the Fridays with the Tue.`s and Thurs. kids.
My kids start the 31st of this month!
Good luck getting back into your routine..
We`ll be there with you soon!

My dd started school today. My ds doesn't go back until 9/7. K is a full day here in the public schools. You can get 1/2 day K in private schools though.

My kids went to kindergarten for about 2 hours and 45 minutes. Now, most kids go all day. Parents still have a choice if they only want their kids to go all day or not. Most of the kids go all day.

Our school year starts 9-1, so we have a few weeks yet.

By Tink on Monday, August 9, 2004 - 10:00 pm:

Well, Annie...how did the first day go for your kiddos?

By Pamt on Monday, August 9, 2004 - 10:29 pm:

I'm dreading and looking forward to the routine again. So, how did it go? The public schools started today, but my kids don't go back until next Monday. This week we're getting back to earlier bedtimes.

By Luvn29 on Monday, August 9, 2004 - 11:24 pm:

My kids start school on Thursday. I hate it that it starts so early because we always end up on a "heat schedule" where the kids have to be at school early and get out earlier in the day. I wish they'd just wait till Aug. is over, so we wouldn't have to worry about it.

My ds goes to Kindergarten, and my dd starts 3rd. Kindergarten here is a full day, five days a week. I hate that. I think it is too much. They don't even have enough stuff to fill the day. I don't know how many times I went in with my dd and they were watching Rugrats or something on t.v. I'm 25, and I went to kindergarten in OH and it was half-day. Kids in town went in the a.m and kids in the country went in the p.m. Wish it were like that here....

So NOT ready to start back on a schedule. Ugh!!!

By Annie2 on Tuesday, August 10, 2004 - 09:44 pm:

The kids did great! They adore their teachers and are settling into the new routine very nicely.

My 13 year dd, 8th grade, loves her schedule as she has several classes with her best friend, including lunch. :)

Glad to hear it! Jr High is such an important time to have your friends near.
