Insurance Warning

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive August 2004: Insurance Warning
By Emily7 on Wednesday, August 4, 2004 - 03:02 pm:

Thursday night my DH took our van to pick up something at the store. While there someone got into it & stole my sunglasses & 70+ CD's. I just wanted to let everyone to know that they need to check their insurance policy. We have an in dash CD player & because of that they will not cover the CD's that were stolen. If it had been something like a boom box with the CD's then it would be covered.
Also he did lock it, but evidently our back door lock decided not to work.

Emily I'm so sorry. Our vehicles are too old, lol, a 91 and 94. But I'll remember that when we buy a new vehicle.

Emily, my DH works at an insurance company. He said you might be able to make a claim with your homeowners insurance.

Geesh, that really sucks. I remember one christmas my dad went shopping and the same thing happened. One door got left unlocked and somebody broke in and stole EVERYTHING, stuff in the trunk too!

I had cassette tapes (Christian music and some musicals) stolen out of my car, where we used to live! I just wonder if they were what he or she really wanted or not! I don't think I even reported it to the police because they wouldn't have been able to do anything. It was only maybe 10 or so.

It's always a good idea to read your insurance policies every year and call or write to the agent if you have questions about specific coverage. I recommend writing and requesting a written reply, just to have backup in case you have to make a claim. A friend found out recently that his auto insurance policy did not provide for a rental car in case of an accident. He had never thought about it because he believed that if you carry collision coverage a rental replacement car is always included if you have an accident.
