False negative(hpt)?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive July 2004: False negative(hpt)?

I'm just curious if any of you have ever had a false negative on a home pregnancy test? I'm 8 days late, EXTREMELY tired, daily headaches..ect. 2 days ago, I noticed a tiny blood streak while I was using the bathroom(sorry,TMI). That happened twice that day. Last night I took a home pregnancy test and it was negative. Maybe I'm just holding on to false hope..I don't know. Anyway, I'm just curious. TIA

I had 3 false negatives with my frist pregnancy. I finally got a postitive when I took it in the morning. I know that supposedly doesn't make a difference, but youy may wait a week & try again.

When my cousin was pregnant she took several home pregnancy test and all were negative, finally she went to the doctor and found out she was 2 months pregnant. I guess sometimes they just don't work right. I would wait a week like Emily said and try again, if still no period and a negative test result I would go to my ob/gyn. Good luck however it turns out. And I do believe it makes a difference if you take it in the morning because your hormones levels are higher or something like that I can't remember but I know I read it, Maybe in my what to expect book.

yes. I had one with my second ds. Waiting a few days, doing it in the morning and checking to make sure you have the strongest hpt helps. There is info on the web that shows which hpts are the most sensitive. I'm sure someone here would know how to access that.... Also, you may want to ask your dr to do a blood test. Much more accurate.

I've had false negatives with two pregnancies. As Laura said, take it first thing in the morning and don't drink a lot of anything the night before. This way the HCG will be at a higher concentration.

Good luck.
