FBI: Trace amounts of ricin found in baby food

Thanks, Scarry.

I can't tell you how many times I've thrown away a jar of baby food because I was not paying attention when I opened it and could not be sure I heard the whoosh of the seal release.
I'd rather throw it away than risk food poisoning or something worse.

I threw away Pedialite last week b/c the inner seal didn't look sealed all the way. Way expensive at $5 something a bottle, but I wasn't going to risk it. I thought I was being petty and paranoid, but now I am glad I didn't take a chance.

How Very Scary!!! And this could happen with any kid of food jar. Ame, I am with you with 3 kids I have thrown alot of babyfood away because I did not hear the seal release. Better safe then
sorry:( And Angela I would have done the same thing.

this part of the story was a little scary:
baby food jars are vacuum sealed and should pop when opened. Rackauckas said, however, that it is possible for a jar to make the popping sound even if it has been tampered with. IMO

I agree Kathy. That is very scary.

I threw out a whole gallon of milk once, because the lid was loose and the plastic thing around the lid was still stuck to it. It all came off together and I didn't twist hard either. DH said he didn't open it. It didn't look like any milk was poured yet, but I didn't want to chance it, so out it went.

That is scary Kate! Makes me want to forget the jars and make my own (when the time comes)! I actually used to look at the lid to make sure there was a depression in the center before I bought it. Then, I got lazy and frankly didn't have the time when shopping with my son to inspect every jar before I bought it. If I use jarred food again, you can bet I'll inspect each one either before I buy it or before I use it.

Why would someone do that. We are actually buying more of the plastic containers of baby food now.
