A rock hit the windshield...

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive July 2004: A rock hit the windshield...
By Sunny on Tuesday, July 13, 2004 - 01:51 pm:

I am so upset. I was driving my DS to speech therapy and a rock hit the windshield and cracked it. It's only the size of a dime, but I know how quickly it can spider and spread. Anyway, now I have to go through the aggravation of filing a claim and getting it fixed. Oh what joy! *sigh*

Life is never boring...

By Trina~moderator on Tuesday, July 13, 2004 - 02:12 pm:

Yikes! Now your new van is officially broken in. {{{HUGS}}} Thank goodness for insurance! BTW, your Sienna is blue mirage, right?

By Sunny on Tuesday, July 13, 2004 - 02:45 pm:

I've had it for close to a year, but it still feels new to me! I've only put 6500 miles on it! LOL
The auto glass guy is coming tomorrow afternoon to look at it. The good news is that we only have to pay a $100 deductible if the windshield needs to be replaced and the better news is we won't have to pay anything if it can be repaired.

Yes, Trina, ours is blue mirage. (I'd be happy to post a picture, just say the word! ) Have you and your DH decided to buy a new van? I know you were talking about it, but you never said what you two decided. :)

We now have matching vans. :) WOO HOO! LOVE IT!!

By Sunny on Tuesday, July 13, 2004 - 02:52 pm:

GET OUT!!! You got a new Sienna? bounce

Congratulations! :) How long have you had it?
Post a pic! I wanna see! LOL

BTW, great website for Sienna owners Sienna Club

We picked it up a couple weeks ago. It's a blue mirage LE AWD. Sorry, no pics but I'm sure you have a really good idea what it looks like! LOL! Thanks, I'll check out the Sienna Club. :) I loved our old Sienna but I really love this one!

Trina!!! Did I miss the "I GOT MY DREAM VAN" post????? LOL I'm so happy for you! I know how much you wanted that thing :) I wish I had one!

By Trina~moderator on Tuesday, July 13, 2004 - 05:43 pm:

LOL, Robin! No, you didn't miss anything. I didn't post about it. Truthfully, it kind of took awhile to sink in. We weren't planning on getting a new van for a couple more years, but with the chipmunk drama, we changed our plans. (Did you miss that story?! LOL! Chipmunk Woes)

By Dawnk777 on Tuesday, July 13, 2004 - 07:22 pm:

Oh bummer.

By Emily7 on Tuesday, July 13, 2004 - 11:40 pm:

You decided on the new van huh. I don't blame you.
Sunny my rock chip only cost $25.00 to repair. I had it done at Novus.

By Sunny on Wednesday, July 14, 2004 - 09:48 am:

Yeah, I have a pretty good idea what it looks like. LOL I hope yours is as good to you as ours has been to us. :)

Emily, I'm hoping I won't have to pay anything and it can be repaired today. I'll see this afternoon.

This happened to me a few years ago. I think our insurance covered it all.

Trina, I am so jealous!!!! I have the '98 Sienna and I REALLy want the new 2004 model. But I really like not having a car payment. My Sienna only has 70,000 miles and is running great, so I guess I will have to wait a few more years.

By Conni on Tuesday, July 27, 2004 - 09:31 am:

I had a rock hit my windshield about 2 weeks ago (on my 2003 Sienna). It didnt just chip it, this was a big rock and it left a big chip with cracks spidering out around it. Makes me sick. I have called the trucking company repeatedly and they wont return my call. One lady told me that the trucking company wont pay for it if they think it came off the hiway as opposed to off the truck... bummer... Guess I just need to call my insurance and see what they say. I really thought this rock came off the truck in front of me tho.

Am I the only one that is getting ready to get rid of my *mini van*? It is almost paid for so dh doesnt want too. BUT I cant haul anything with it, cant pull a boat, jet ski or trailer. Cant put my 2 labradors in it. And it isnt 4 wheel drive. sniff sniff I am about to go *nuts* without 4 wheel drive. We have a 4 wheel drive hill on our lake property that I cant get down on the weekends we go out there-- I have to be with dh in the old landcruiser, cant drive van out there. Soooooooooo I am now looking at the Toyota Tacoma full size, 4-door, 4 wheel drive truck... I can still fit my boys in it, and it will do the *work* I need it to do. Sometimes I want to go with my Dad and Grandad to the sale barn and if I could pull a trailer there for Dad that would be a bonus too... :) I am going to test drive one today.

The sienna has one option I cant live without and I just found out I can get it on the Tacoma truck-- Buttons on my steering wheel to adjust the radio. LOL I am spoiled rotten to that great feature. :)

I also looked at the Chevy crew cab truck with the Durmax Diesel/Allison transmission. It was a little too much truck I think. $40,000 some odd dollars!!! Holy cow!! I cant believe people can afford those things. lol The Toyota will do the things I need, is great quality and actually has a reasonable price. I'll keep you posted on what I get.

By Conni on Tuesday, July 27, 2004 - 09:43 am:

OK I Am a dork-- It is called a TUNDRA truck I think. The Tacoma is their midsize truck. I have looked at too many trucks online. lol

What happened with your windshield???

By Sunny on Tuesday, July 27, 2004 - 10:08 am:

The auto glass guy came out and repaired it. At first he said that the star-like chips were the worst to repair and he was hoping for a 70% improvement, but he got it to about 90% and if you're not looking for it, you won't notice it. And it didn't cost me anything. :)

We've only had a minivan for a year now and I can't believe we waited so long. We don't use it for hauling and opted not to get the AWD (we would only need it for a few months a year, if that, and DH has a 4 wheel drive). I went through withdrawal yesterday when the van was at the dealer LOL I love this van!

Let us know what you finally decide on! :)
