Okay..my dh is a mechanic and when he showers he turns everything black! Even when i try to get in there right after and spray it down the bath tub still looks terrible! I have tried EVERY cleaner in the stores to get it clean and just can't! I have scrubbed with every inch of strengh i have in me and nothing! I hate it with a passion. Anyone with any tricks or secrets to fixing this?

Have you tried making him shower outside? LOL
I use bleach to clean my showers 2 times a month.
On top of my normal cleaning.

By Amyj on Friday, July 2, 2004 - 10:08 am:

Try the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. It will work on just about anything!

dh was also a mechanic/engineer in the Navy, only thing is I lived in PA and he was stationed in Norfolk, so he always showered before he came home on the weekends!

However, he would bring the overalls home, one time he brought everyone's (5 pair) home because I was the only one who got them really clean. I would use Dawn dish detergent in the washer machine with hot water.

Did you ever try that new or semi-new teflon product for cleaning bathrooms, it's supposed to clean and the dirt is supposed to "slide" right off, lol! Never tried it, but am curious.

DH worked construction right after we got married. He always made a huge mess in the shower. I used pine-sol and dishsoap to cut through the yuck!

Kenna, I hope someone has a good cleaning product idea. My DH is also a mechanic and I could never get the tub as clean as I want it.

By Texannie on Friday, July 2, 2004 - 11:06 am:

I have heard using WD 40 will help get the grease out.

My DH is an ironworker and dad is a mechanic. We have used The Works for as long as I can remember. It gets out rust, sulfer water stains, and best of all, grease and oil stains on plastic, tile, and porcelain...oh yeah...it gets the faucets sparkly clean too. Warning: use only with good ventilation or you will end up loopy as heck. LOL

The only thing I know is to be very careful with cleaning products. My husband got grease all over our shower enclosure and I tried everything under the sun to whiten & brighten. The only thing I succeeded in doing was eating off the finish. Now the grease marks show up even more and are even tougher to remove.

After you get it clean with the above solutions, coat it with Rain-x. This will help bead up the water and not stay on the surface.
Good luck!

Scrubbing Bubbles...can't use the generic it has to be Scrubbing Bubbles. Leave it on for 5 minutes wipe, you may have to repeat several times but I have never had anything it did not remove easily.

Scrubbing Bubbles is the only thing that got our shower clean. We have the nasty fiberglass stall and this is the only thing that keeps it white. Good luck! Be careful of the fumes with any cleaner since you are preggo!

Pine Sol will even remove labels and sap. Full strength it will cut through any oily mess.

When my son moved into an apartment he found the tub was really a mess and nothing worked. I suggested and they tried an ammonia based cleaner, letting it soak in, and it worked like a charm. You have to be very careful with ammonia - be sure to have a window open and don't mix an ammonia cleaner with anything bleach based - that is a very dangerous mix.

And, since you are pregnant and have to be careful about chemicals, and it is your dh's dirt, maybe he should clean it. Also, has he tried first using the cleaner that mechanics use to get grease & other stuff off their hands at work - before he gets into your shower?

You know that might not be a bad idea, putting in a shower in the basement or the laundry room? I think dh would understand. Just say you don't want the auto chemicals to get on the children when they bath.

We put a shower down stairs for every cheap(1,000). I asked the plumber for the cheapest shower because originally it a temporary shower for when we redid the upstairs bathroom so we could shower. But dh now showers down there now because we all get ready at the same time now.

I wash the tub with dawn liquid dish soap. It breaks up grease and is the best and gentle.

putting a shower in would not be possible, lol this is military housing! He does use the cleaner as best he can and it doesn't get bad quick but over time it still gets yucky, he is gonna be the one to try some new stuff since i can't, thanks everyone!

Kenna, magic erasers work great and cleaning is effortless. :)

My husband is a welder and was getting our old fiberglass tub pretty dirty too. I found a nice product at Target - Method Daily Shower spray, that smells like Ylang Ylang, not chemicals. Of course, I can't get HIM to spray after every shower, but even if I do it after mine, it really cuts down on the frequency of actual SCRUBBING. For that, I like Scrubbing Bubbles too!
p.s. the Magic Eraser is awesome for the greasy stove but be careful on the cabinets - leaves fine scratches.

Happy 4th (I hope nobody has to scrub today!)from new member - 'Mom-O'

I use Fantastic bathroom cleaner orange scent == it works really well at getting ground in dirt out of the tub -- spray it on and let it sit for a while and wipe and rinse.
