My field trip to L&D

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive June 2004: My field trip to L&D
By Jackie on Monday, June 21, 2004 - 05:43 am:

Yesterday I was officially 31 weeks pregnant. I was having alot of pelvic pressure yesterday. Ive had it on and through out the pregnancy, from almostday one.. Some days I dont have it, some days its onand off, not painful, but it always eventually goes away..Most of the time its cause by the uterus growing/stretching.
Yesterday it wouldnt go away, it was very low down andmaking me nervous. After having 4 miscarriages, EVERYTHING makesme nervous. So I put a call into the dr...He told me to go to L&D and get checked out,he said it could be as simple as a bladder infection.I actually wasnt too nervous as I felt the baby moving, and kept listening to her heartbeat with my home doppler(Im so happy to have that)and heartbeat was normal..
So I get there and hook me up.. Nothing was showing up at first , then I Was having some "small" contractions. Nothing regular, but every once in awhile Id feel this really intense pressure, and sure enough there was a small contraction being picked up..They also did a urine test. I did not have a bladder infection, but come to find out I was dehydrated.. I was in shock as I drink all day long.. Granted, I didnt drink a ton yesterday as I was too nervous. So dr comes and looks at everything and orders IV fluid.. And sleep induced rest while I was there. So they gave me a shot of "Demorol"(Dont know how to spell that). Ive never had that, its also a painkiller(I wasnt in any real pain)...Im such a wimp. As the nurse is injecting it in my IV, my head is getting all dizzy and lightedheaded...The dr explained, when the body is resting and calm, usually these type of contractions would go away. So after 2 bags of IV's, I was told I could gohome.. We spent 5 hrs there...But I feel much better now...
After my husband told the dr how Im in the pool for several hrs on hot sunny days, the dr said the sun can dehydrate you very much expecially when you are not drinking...And when Im in my pool in the yard, I never feel thirsty...

(((Jackie))) thinking and praying for you as time draws near.

With our third dd, I was dehydrated most of the last trimester. When I went in to be induced, they gave me 4 IV's (I felt like a water balloon). DD was 10 lbs. 7 ounces and a week late. They told me so many factors relate to dehydration. After I had Alyssa, I spent the next 4 hours going to the bathroom (constantly).

Keep us posted.

Glad you are feeling better, Jackie. That IV fluid helps so much! I'm glad you got a chance to rest. Not fun, but it sounds like the rest was good. Take it easy still, and put your feet up.:)

I started having contractions like that at 28 weeks with my second son. I went to the hospital 13 times! Each time I drank about a gallon of water and went home (except the last time- that's when he was born). I made it to 36 weeks- sdo even though he was premature he was much better off. Keep that baby cooking as long as you can.

Maybe this will make you feel better. My dd was 9 weeks early. And although waiting definitely is much better just know that even now your baby can still make it and be wonderfully healthy! My dd was in the hospital for 2 weeks and was only 4 pounds but she is 9 now and very healthy. Keep that baby in as long as you can but try to relax. I will keep you in our prayers! Good luck!

Good luck - I'll keep praying for you.
While you're in the pool, take a sports bottle in with you - the ones that are insulated. They may even have some that float. This way, you'll have water constantly.
