Sleeping at a Motel

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive July 2004: Sleeping at a Motel
By Mrln05 on Friday, June 18, 2004 - 09:46 am:

We will be going on vacation soon and I have never been able to sleep well at a Motel.

Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do when you have trouble sleeping? Thanks

Not much to offer, I usually sleep well at a motel (if it's quiet). Bring your own pillow....it's comforting. Hope you get more suggestions. :)

Maybe an air freshner or something to make the room smell like home would help. I'm going to be spending a night in a motel next month for a conference I'm going to. There will also be three other women in the room, including my mom--who I'll be sharing a bed with! (We're trying to save $$$) We, of course, don't plan on getting a lot of sleep anyway! lol Good luck!

I usually bring my own pillow, if it a real cheap hotel, sometimes my own blankie. Also a candle, really makes it homey smelling and that helps me a bunch!

I bring my own pillow, a fan and otc sleeping pills just in case.

Thanks for the great suggestions. I am going to try them. I did think of taking otc sleeping pills with me. I don't like to take pills if I don't have to but I may take some just in case. The pillow idea sounds good. My grown daughter has a stuffed animal she sleeps with sometimes. I'd feel funny doing that. I like the candle idea, too.

I always bring at least 1 can of lysol. I lysol everywhere. I take comforter/bed spread off (they rarely wash those things!) I also bring my own pillow & blanket. The kids bring 1 favorite stuffed animal.

we take our own pillows and blankets also. I usually have to take some sleeping pills because I also have problems sleeping if it's not my own bed. I have that problem every where we stay.

I always seem to sleep well at a hotel...as long as it's a nice, safe one :)
We travel with our own pillows as well. That really helps! Also, if you are on a time schedule, I would take your own alarm clock. Sometimes at a hotel if I haven't brought my own clock, I wake up a lot to check the time.....*just in case* the alarm doesn't work properly or something. I always worry about oversleeping. But, if I have my own trusty clock, I sleep much better.

I always use earplugs and sometimes bring eye covers. I like it dark and quiet. :)

Ear plugs, great idea! Never thought of bringing a scented candle, love that idea too!

We just came back from our vacation and although I had a little trouble sleeping at a couple of the motels, I did better than I expected.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I took my own pillow and that was the biggest help. Also using a candle was a great touch. I took one of our throws from the sofa and used it as a blanket and that was helpful, too.

I even bought a night mask but since we forgot to take our bag with the night mask, tooth brushes, tooth paste, shampoo, makeup, etc. I didn't have it with me. (We had to buy all new stuff to replace the items. I didn't buy a new mask) I felt really stupid forgetting that bag. Stress!! I even had to buy a new candle to replace my specially bought Yankee Candle, since that was in the bag too.
