I'm such a coward ;)

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive May 2004: I'm such a coward ;)
By Sunny on Thursday, May 27, 2004 - 01:52 pm:

I noticed a black mark on the dining room ceiling and got closer to see what it was. I was thinking it was a moth because we seem to be getting a lot of them lately. I got closer and realized it was a spider - not just any spider, but a big, black, ugly, mini-tarantula looking spider. So, what do I do? I jump back and called my 15 yr old (who is home sick from school today) to come downstairs and get rid of it for me.

He put it in a cup, took it outside and let it go free, then laughed at me and went back to bed.

I wouldn't think of it as being a coward. It's more like knowing how to delegate - which is a very important skill :).

YUCK!! I would have wanted the thing DEAD!! LOL I hate spiders and would have most likely gotten out the vaccum and sucked it into the hose!! LOL

My 5 year old kills most of the bugs in the house for me! You're not a coward, just smart ;)

By Trina~moderator on Thursday, May 27, 2004 - 02:21 pm:

LOL, Sunny! Yesterday DS was digging in the closet for his shoes. Suddenly he screamed and jumped back. There was a big, brown, hairy spider on the floor. DS: "Uh Mom, can you take care of that hairy spider so I can get my shoes?!" I'm the official bug squisher in our house. DH doesn't even like to do it. Normally I'd be fine with capture and release but I wasn't sure this one was harmless (brown recluse?) so I grabbed a paper towel and smushed. Mom saved the day. LOL! :)

LOL i am the bug killer in the house, although i hate the job, but with spiders i normally leave them be since they keep out the ants!! The ants here are SOOOOO bad and so are the spiders, atleast the spiders aren't all up in the food and places i don't want them, they pretty much keep to the ceilings and corners!!

By Sunny on Thursday, May 27, 2004 - 02:38 pm:

Well, I usually put on a brave face and get rid of the bugs, but I like Ame's way of thinking. I'm going to use that the next time any of them laugh at me.

The only thing that I absolutely can't stand is roaches. Oh, just the thought of them makes me cringe!

You are teaching your son how to be a man. I would have screamed my head off. I am a fan of hairspray or air freshener. Spray, stomp, flush...thats how I handle them when I am alone!

By Colette on Thursday, May 27, 2004 - 04:05 pm:

I am the bug killer too. I don't mind bees and spiders, but when I was mowing the lawn, I surprised a snake that was sunning himself - or rather, I don't know who was more surprised, me or the snake - it jumped in the air, I screamed, ran in the house, and emailed dh that the lawnmower was staying right where it was and he could finish the lawn when he got home. I HATE snakes.

Well, when you are used to seeing dinky little house spiders and then all of a sudden you are face to face with a big furry black spider, I would be a bit scared, too!

By Sue3 on Thursday, May 27, 2004 - 10:30 pm:

I am scared to death of spiders also.I respect them though. They eat flies and I like that.
So I usually leave them be in my house to do that job. They hang out at the window screens and it`s those miniature terantula looking ones also.
AHHHH ! I think I am to chicken to kill them also.Good for your DS for capturing him and then letting him go out side,if only I had the nerve to get that close to them..............

By Vbw1978 on Thursday, May 27, 2004 - 10:57 pm:

ewwwwww is all i can say I hate spiders !`

By Bea on Friday, May 28, 2004 - 12:29 am:

I guess it's the tomboy in me, but spiders never scared me. If they're in my territory, I squish them. If not, I let them do their thing. Now if it was a roach??.......echhhh I hate those things.

By Tink on Friday, May 28, 2004 - 12:46 am:

Dh and I fight over who has to get close enough to them to kill them. I'm also a fan of the vacuum method! I even used the attachment so I can get that much farther away. LOL We don't get very many, though, and never any really nasty ones. Apparently spider fear DNA is potent in our family because all of the kids are scared of them too. I'm sure that seeing me run from them isn't the cause.

By Dawnk777 on Friday, May 28, 2004 - 07:53 am:

No hairy spiders here, thank goodness! I'm usually the offical bugkilller, too, but if DH is home, I make him deal with it. I hate having to kill hornets that get into our house, but my kids all freak when they see a hornet! (That sting REALLY hurts!)

By Mommyathome on Friday, May 28, 2004 - 11:51 am:

Ahhh!! I hate spiders. DH is the bug squisher in our house.
Sometimes, if I know DH will be home soon, I'll just watch the spider and keep track of it. Then, when DH walks through the door I tell him there is a spider!

Well... if you are a coward, welcome to the club!!! Before I was married, I lived in a small aparment building. The owners were building another building behind us and there was alot of digging going on and water pipe work. I went to take a shower one night, and came face to face with the biggest spider you have ever seen in the shower. STARING AT ME!!! I swear, he was staring at me! Well... living alone, there was no one to call! I put my bathrobe on, went across the hall and knocked on the door. When the wife came to the door (they had only lived there a couple of months, we really weren't friends yet), I asked if I could borrow her husband!!! I was panic-stricken and didn't think about what is must have looked like... some woman in her bathrobe wanting to "borrow" her husband! The look she gave me was priceless!! When he came up behind her, and I told him what the problem was, she completely changed and understood!!! (She's in the club, too!) This spider even made him jump back!!!

Spiders and other creepy crawlers are one of the main reasons I got married!!!! Live-in bug killer!!!! :)
