Birthday cards

Do you keep all your child/childrens birthday cards? Just curious because I have saved a whole lot of them.

By Happynerdmom on Tuesday, May 25, 2004 - 05:54 pm:

No. I don't keep any of them. My MIL used to keep a few for her kids. She put together a big scrap book (the old-fashioned kind, not "Creative Memories" type) for each of her kids and gave it to them for graduation...one of those really cool ideas that never got off the ground at my house! I did keep my son's get-well cards from when he had brain surgery.

I save only the ones from significant relatives : grandparents, godparents. If one is especially cute, then I'll save it as well. But, my son is only two and a half, so I don't have that many yet. My policy may change ...

I don't save any, and I hope my kids don't hate me later. I don't even GIVE my kids cards for any occasions!! I'm not a card person in general, and most of all I'm not sentimental and I hate clutter. I throw out as much as I can. Naturally I have a pack rat daughter who saves even the sticky back labels used to write her name and apply to her shirt for storyhour....

Gee, I sound like a real scrooge!!! I'm really not!

I don't save anyting like that. I just feel like if I saved all cards, letters, ect. I woudn't have a place to live. A friend of mine a collage of them, takes a picture of it, & puts it in the scrap book.

I saved all the congratulations cards from when they were born and the cards from their first birthday.

No, I don't save them unless there's something significant written in them. I just had to go through my grandmother's stuff after her death and threw away hundreds of cards. I enjoyed reading the ones that had letters with them and I can see why she saved them (and I saved the genealogy potential ones). And I enjoyed reading the ones that said mean stuff about me or others. They were really funny and insightful and trashy! My grandmother! So funny! But these cards that just said, "Love, B" I don't know why she saved them.

I'm not a card person myself. They're expensive and they usually just go straight to the trash. I like ones with pictures of the people, though. I do save those.

I don't save them either. 20 cards x 3 kids x ??? years = way too much stuff!! I'm not a sentimental type person and rebel against my mom and husband who are total packrats. I have a few from important people from each of their births that are in their baby books. That's it.

By Melanie on Tuesday, May 25, 2004 - 08:02 pm:

I save them from my parents and from dh's grandmother because they always write nice things in them.

By Mommyathome on Tuesday, May 25, 2004 - 09:24 pm:

Nope. I saved my oldest DD's from her 1st birthday. I didn't save the other kids'. I have a couple here and there that I'll tuck away if they are extra special.

I save all of Brendan's and I have alot of mine from growing up and like to look at them. I keep them in manilla envelopes with the year written on the outside of it for him and mine are in my memory tub. His manilla envelopes are all in my file cabinet.

Another neat thing I do is, at my babyshower we had a journal where everyone wrote best wishes and congratulations,etc... I have had it at all three of his birthday parties and everyone writes a little note to him. I also record his milestones for that year in there in a letter type fashion. It's neat because there are several friends who have written in it for the shower and all three birthday parties.

I save them all. Each of the kids has a memory tote or 2, so I just put them in there.

I'm way sentimental. I save cards for their birthday, which their second is coming up so that's not saying much. I have copies of their birth announcement cards, my first Mother's day, I'm keeping the card I got this year for Mother's day, I kept cards from my 21st birthday last year. Eventually I'm going to have way too much sentimental crap!! LOL!

I do save a lot of cards. I have a couple that I am glad I saved, a dear friend, who was like a dad to me, christmas cards and every year I hang them up as if they were just sent. It makes me feel like he is still around. I have the one he sent to my daughter, now 7, for her 1st christmas which I hang up.
