Is there a Skin Doctor in the House?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive May 2004: Is there a Skin Doctor in the House?
By Tink on Tuesday, May 4, 2004 - 02:06 am:

I don't necessarily need a Dr., just someone with a little expertise in allergies. I have had trouble with eczema on my hands and feet since I was an infant. Last night I woke up because the skin on the back of my legs was itching so bad. I put some of my Rx cream on it without looking at it and went back to sleep. This morning, the skin burnt when I got in the shower. I looked when I got out and there were red blotches on my legs. They have been itching like mad all day but they aren't getting any larger. I've been using my cream and it doesn't seem to be helping. Does anyone know if these could be hives rather than what I'm used to? I've never had hives so I can't compare them. TIA

I also have Eczema. I have had a rash before.
In fact once my entire body had it so bad I looked like I have chicken poxs! I had to get a cortazone (sp?) Shot. I have tried so may diff
kinds of med and nothing really helps. I hate it!!
Its ugly and itchy!! I have a spot on my back that I have had for 2 years and it will not go away!! Good luck and I hope you find something that works.

I have it also , you need to go to your Dr. because the cream isn`t working any more (that is common ) then you have to try a nother kind.
My DS has it also.
I have had hives before also and it doesn`t sound like hives.
When I had hive`s they were not raised like the e czema.
Showers and baths always made mine worse.(eczema)
Also bennidryl helps hives .
I would call your Dr.
My son`s is really bad right now also.
They say eczema stems from allergies.
Good luck , hope you get some relief

My ds has eczema. You may want to call the doctor. He gets outbreaks every once in awhile. He has different triggers that cause them. We are now using a new prescription cream. It is a non steroid cream. It has worked really well and his red blotches are almost gone.

Call the DR. There are many new treatments out there. My son, 2, is using protopic, which is very mild and helps a lot. I had success with cyclocort and also with Desonide.
Also, you can get some Aveno bath and make a thin paste from it and put it on the splotches and the rash. A good moisturizer (I like Cetaphil) also helped me and my son.
Good luck finding something that's right for you.

I don't have any experience with eczema, but could the cream have gone bad? It sounds like the cream is making it worse, no better. Ditto calling the doc. Good luck. I hate itching! (I have dry skin)

My DS had severe eczema on his cheeks when he was a baby. The cream would work for awhile, then it wouldn't work anymore and we would go back to the skin doctor and get a different kind. It would work for awhile, then we would go back for something different.
Finally it has cleared up.
Good luck!

My Dh's cousin just said over the weekend that she had to get a different type of cream for her eczema because the ne she was using wasn't working. Don't know the names of either. I bet your allegic to this cream.
