Panty Lines! Help!

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive April 2004: Panty Lines! Help!
By Kate on Wednesday, April 7, 2004 - 11:05 am:

I'm in a wedding and the gown is chiffon/polyester clingy type material. I tried on a size two sizes too big and it STILL clung and showed everything. What on earth do I do?? Wearing a thong won't help the FRONT underwear outline, and I'm sure it would outline the waist and strip of the thong, too, in the back! I'm not sure how to wear ANY underwear with this! Any ideas that won't break the bank? I think even panythose with built in underwear would show the waist seam and the unsightly crooked middle seam. In fact, someone even suggested to me to wear KNEE HIGHS because possibly by the time you hit my calves, it won't cling. Thigh highs would show the bump as it still clings way up there. Help!!!! Please!!

By Eve on Wednesday, April 7, 2004 - 11:09 am:

They make seamless pantyhose. I would go to a major dept. store and ask someone for some suggestions. Also, start trying a few things now! They make thongs that are very thin fabric, not lacy that might work. Good luck! :)

By Trina~moderator on Wednesday, April 7, 2004 - 11:16 am:

OMG, who the heck would want to wear a dress like that?! Ask the bridal shop if they know what previous brides maids have worn under this particular dress. I agree with Eve about looking into seamless pantyhose. Or nude colored, seamless panties. I think Victoria's Secret has some. Good luck and let us know how things turn out!

By Mommyathome on Wednesday, April 7, 2004 - 11:19 am:

I have seen thongs that claim to be seemless. I agree w/Eve....go to a major dept. store (Dillards would be a good start) and ask the ladies there. Maybe even try a google search on the subject.

By Kilara21 on Wednesday, April 7, 2004 - 11:36 am:

Bridalwear are made with the old size standards. Generally you have to go 4 sizes larger then your regular clothing size.

By Janet on Wednesday, April 7, 2004 - 11:49 am:

I agree, seamless pantyhose. But then there's the waistline problem. Maybe a body suit of some type? And Vicky's Secret would be the perfect place to find the right undergarment!

By Palmbchprincess on Wednesday, April 7, 2004 - 12:04 pm:

I'd go to Victoria's Secret, take the dress, and let them help you. They will be able to pick out the right panyhose or underwear, probably something in the Body by Victoria line. Good luck!!

By Kate on Wednesday, April 7, 2004 - 12:11 pm:

Thanks everyone. I was actually trying to avoid VS because it's so expensive! I hate that the stuff you need UNDER the dress ends up costing more than the dress itself!!! I quit going to VS when they stopped having their $12 bra sales. Remember those??? Those were great! At any rate, I'll check out an all in one type pantyhose first, I guess, and if desperate I'll head to VS. :)

By Ladypeacek on Wednesday, April 7, 2004 - 12:25 pm:

There are undies that are completely invisble now. I bought a few pair a while back and you really don't see panyt lines at all! I would try the major dept stores, i bought them at sears. They weren't too expensive, i believe they were 4 bucks for a pair. Good luck!

By Texannie on Wednesday, April 7, 2004 - 01:07 pm:

You could just go cammo.

By Bellajoe on Wednesday, April 7, 2004 - 02:19 pm:

LOL, Annie i was thinking the same thing.

By Trina~moderator on Wednesday, April 7, 2004 - 02:28 pm:

Yes Annie, I was thinking that too, BUT if it really is THAT sheer and unforgiving, it will be obvious the dress wearer is cammo. Don't you think?! LOL!

By Dawnk777 on Wednesday, April 7, 2004 - 05:09 pm:

I wouldn't want to wear a dress like that! Yikes!

By Kaye on Wednesday, April 7, 2004 - 09:25 pm:

You know when you have surgery, they have a big bandaid they use to cover you up for modesty...maybe you go that route..LOL. I can say I might just have to not worry about panty lines and let the bride deal with her photos! Any chance of her changing her mind?

By Kate on Wednesday, April 7, 2004 - 11:05 pm:

You guys are funny! I'm going to be upstaging the bride at this point! It's not so much SHEER, as it is CLINGY. PamT showed me a site that sells some sort of 'boy short' bodysuit thingy. I think I need a strapless one though. Sigh....

By Bobbie on Thursday, April 8, 2004 - 12:01 am:

Here check this out...

Seamless body

By Janet on Thursday, April 8, 2004 - 10:31 am:

Upstaging the bride? Serves her right for forcing you into such a dress! LOL :)

By Kate on Thursday, April 8, 2004 - 01:29 pm:

Did I mention I'm matron of honor so I'll be standing up there in plain view the whole time???

By Trina~moderator on Thursday, April 8, 2004 - 01:47 pm:

Oh Kate, do you have a pic of this dress?! You really have me curious! Who is the maker? Do they have a web site? Is this dress not lined? If not, could you wear a slip?

By Kate on Thursday, April 8, 2004 - 03:16 pm:

I emailed you the dress link, Trina, since I'm clueless as to how to post a pic. It's a pretty dress. I just don't know how to avoid those lines!! A slip would never cover the 'bump' or 'outline' of undies. At least, not my current crop of undies!

By Trina~moderator on Thursday, April 8, 2004 - 03:46 pm:

Here it is....

Very pretty! My prom dress is similar but I'd be hesitant to wear something like this now! LOL!

By Janet on Thursday, April 8, 2004 - 04:20 pm:

Hubba hubba! I can see why you don't want any lines (and why it'll be hard to cover them). There's just GOT to be something to handle this. Let us know what you find out, will ya?

By Texannie on Thursday, April 8, 2004 - 04:37 pm:

Pretty.

By Colette on Thursday, April 8, 2004 - 05:34 pm:

What does cammo mean?

By Trina~moderator on Thursday, April 8, 2004 - 05:37 pm:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe "cammo" means NO panties whatsoever.

By Texannie on Thursday, April 8, 2004 - 05:42 pm:

Yup! ;)

By Andi on Thursday, April 8, 2004 - 05:46 pm:

A big department store will have a one piece under garment sorda like a leatard but the legs are more like bike shorts. That would be one option.

I wore something very similar to this dress last summer in a wedding and I just went Comando...I know TMI, but that really was the best option for this dress and since it was summer it really wasn't a big deal. I did have the seamstress at the bridal shop sew in Breast pads so I wouldn't have to wear a bra and that worked out perfect.

By Amecmom on Thursday, April 8, 2004 - 06:12 pm:

Could you just wear control top pantyhose with a crotch? Body Shapers are also good. They look like pantyhose, but they go down to just the knee.
It's a really pretty dress. Have fun.
Ame

By Kate on Thursday, April 8, 2004 - 08:38 pm:

C'mon now, who here wants to see Andi in her bridesmaid dress and Trina in her prom gown?? I do!! I do!! Let's see, ladies! :)

By Andi on Thursday, April 8, 2004 - 08:46 pm:

Yeah, you won't be seeing me in that dress I'm 6 1/2 months pregnant. :)

By Kate on Thursday, April 8, 2004 - 08:51 pm:

LOL, well I meant a pic FROM the wedding. :) I won't make you model it NOW! :)

By Truestori on Thursday, April 8, 2004 - 08:55 pm:

Geesh,
I couldn't wear that dress for fear my belly roll would overlap any panties I decided to wear...LOL

You ladies are so funny. :)

By Trina~moderator on Thursday, April 8, 2004 - 10:12 pm:

OK, you ASKED for it. LOL! This is a scanned 1980 photo and it has been re-sized so the quality isn't great. Oh my, I look so YOUNG! My date, Paul, was a real sweetie but not "Mr. Right".

text description

Oh, for the record, I'm wearing a slip with UnderAlls under this dress. LOL! Do they still make UnderAlls? (Pantyhose with built in panties)

By Mcrosby57 on Thursday, April 8, 2004 - 10:44 pm:

Great pic!!!! Wow!!!! Sooooooooo young!

I'd put bandaides or that hair tape we used to use for curles at night, and go undie-less.

What the heck, upstage the bride!

Got anyone special to flash??????

Mary

By Janet on Friday, April 9, 2004 - 10:06 am:

Love those hairstyles!! LOL Trina, I had a black dress very similar to that, only calf-length, that I wore "cammo" to some college dances... It's still hanging in my closet, in the hopes I'll be able to slink off in it somewhere (but after two kids, I'm not as slinky as I used to be! )

By Rayanne on Friday, April 9, 2004 - 11:34 am:

I think that Jockey makes them, but my friends bridesmaids went through the same dilema and they found panties by Jockey and they worked. Go to Jockey.Com and they have no panti line bikini's for I think 8.50 Good luck.

By Mommyathome on Friday, April 9, 2004 - 11:44 am:

*Cool* picture Trina :)

Kate, the dress is very pretty!!! I love it! You'll have to let us know what you decide to wear under it LOL

By Newbabysarah on Monday, April 12, 2004 - 05:20 pm:

Wow, that dress is from David's Bridal, I know because it's my dress for my mother's upcoming wedding in September! What a coincidence! I'm going to wear it in the apple color. I haven't tried it on yet so I wasn't aware of the dilema. Let me know what you come up with.

By Kate on Monday, April 12, 2004 - 05:39 pm:

Really?? Oh go try it on now!!! Our color is lavender haze. Please quick try it and let me know how it fits YOU!! I'm wondering if the sizing is true, too. Let me know if you need a bigger or smaller size in the dress than you normally would take. I'm measuring for a smaller size and I'm panicked now thinking I should have gone bigger in hopes that it would cling less and that later on, if cut down, it would still fit someday!!

Trina, you look great!!!!

By Kolbysmom on Monday, April 12, 2004 - 10:41 pm:

My bridesmaids wore that exact same dress(but it was lavender). I don't remember any of them having problem with pany lines though?? I'll ask some of them tomorrow just to make sure though!
