Keep your fingers crossed :)

By Pamt on Monday, April 5, 2004 - 03:22 pm:

Dh is enroute taking his THIRD post-vasectomy *sample* in to the urologist today. He's quite a virile guy apparently since his vasectomy was 6 months ago and we have still been having little swimmers around--LOL. At the first count the urologist thought the procedure had failed completely because his count was so high, but by the second time it had gone done a fair amount. We want NO tadpoles this time around, so we can officially be DONE with birth control worries FOREVER! :)

By Marg on Monday, April 5, 2004 - 03:28 pm:

LOL, dh and I were just talking about this last night!

By Melanie on Monday, April 5, 2004 - 03:28 pm:

Oh gosh, have we BTDT!!! I wish him luck! As you know, dh had to go through with the big V twice. But it did work the second time. I will keep my fingers crossed your dh doesn't have to go through with it again! :)

By Sunny on Monday, April 5, 2004 - 03:29 pm:

By Mommyathome on Monday, April 5, 2004 - 03:33 pm:

Fingers crossed here too. I kind of envy you :) Not having to worry about birth control seems like it would be such a good thing.

By Trina~moderator on Monday, April 5, 2004 - 04:18 pm:

*Fingers crossed* that his V took!

By Conni on Monday, April 5, 2004 - 05:07 pm:

Well, my fingers are crossed too. :) My dh had to have a V done 2x as well. We have an awesome bonus child out of it. :)

By Dawnk777 on Monday, April 5, 2004 - 06:35 pm:

Would be nice to not have to worry about birth control, especially since we have been done having children for 12 years now!

Good luck!

By Insaneusmcwife on Monday, April 5, 2004 - 08:48 pm:

Well, dh was out back playing baseball with the boys after work and got a call on his cell from the doctor's office. Because of the new HIPPA regulations they couldn't leave the results on voice mail and by the time dh got the message the office was closed :( Oh well! I'll post an update tomorrow.

P.S.
Dawn..get your dh to the doctor :)

By Amy~moderator on Monday, April 5, 2004 - 11:13 pm:

Fingers crossed, Pam!

By Annie2 on Monday, April 5, 2004 - 11:28 pm:

My dh had a V six years ago. He never went back for his final check because he "knew" the procedure was done correctly for the right results because it was so "invasive"; that all ends were caulderized effectively. LOL (He was also in the military at the time and scheduling was crazy and time just went past us). The big baby! He still talks about all the pain he went through and the "risks" he undertook.
Hope you get good results. It's great not to have to worry about BC.

By Babysitbarb on Tuesday, April 6, 2004 - 09:51 am:

My DH had his big V done like 14 months ago and he went in once to try to take his sample in and couldn't get any results. He was on like 6 different medicines at the time for different things and I think this is why he couldn't get any results. He's never gone back. I don't really worry about it because I always wanted another baby and he didn't so if it were to ever happen it would be just fine with me and I would figure it was God's will. He waited until our youngest was 101/2 years old before he ever went for the surgery.I can't imagine him going through it a second time. He had surgery for the big V and surgery for a double hurnia within a 10 months time so he's burnt out on surgeries.

Did our finger crossing work? :)

By Trina~moderator on Tuesday, April 6, 2004 - 12:50 pm:

Yes Pam, is there cause for "celebration" tonight?! *EG*

STILL gently coaxing my DH to go for a V. He has already gone in for a consultation visit but has yet to set a date.

By Pamt on Tuesday, April 6, 2004 - 01:33 pm:

Still playing phone tag with the doctor. :( Dh has strict orders to call me at work today when he finds something out.

By Pamt on Tuesday, April 6, 2004 - 07:14 pm:

Yep! There WILL be a celebration tonight!! :) And we have a little box of *somethings* that we won't be needing anymore LOL

By Melanie on Tuesday, April 6, 2004 - 07:15 pm:

That's great! Have fun celebrating! And I can guarantee you that when the time rolls around for your period to be due...you will be anxious. LOL
It may take a while to get used to the new free life style. It's wonderful. :)

Since I'm prego w/ the fourth and final I can't wait until V-day around here! And it HAS to happen before my 6 week postpartum. I have not been on birth control for over 10 years, since we had our first, but have used natural planning successfully to complete our family, but now I want no mistakes, and a funner more spontaneous adult life:)

Hope your celebration is Fun

By Juli4 on Wednesday, April 7, 2004 - 08:25 pm:

we are having our last one and I am getting my tubes tied instead of dh getting the big v. I also look forward to the new free sex life.

By Pamt on Wednesday, April 7, 2004 - 09:18 pm:

Annie, I know I will be worried for several months actually. We are apparently very fertile :). We didn't use birth control twice and we have 2 kids--both planned. I'd be fine with a surprise baby in the next year or two, but NOT a surprise pregancy when I'm 45 and my "baby" is a 10th grader. Yikes!

Juli, not trying to totally sway you or anything, but there can really be a lot of complications with getting your tubes tied and not many at all with a V. I'd really caution you to do your research first so you can make an informed decision. :)

By Dawnk777 on Wednesday, April 7, 2004 - 09:21 pm:

Pam, next year I will be 45 and have a 10th grader! I do NOT want to have a new baby then! Or now, for that matter! We will just religiously use the birth control so that doesn't happen. It's not really that much of a hassle!

Been there, done that with babies. The next babies I take care of better be grandbabies and not until my daughters are out of college and married!

By Kaye on Wednesday, April 7, 2004 - 09:22 pm:

Pam I can total relate to your feelings here. Up until a few years ago we had only not used protection twice and we have three kids..YIKES! My hubby got the big v in oct also, his first test came back fine, good thing because I don't i could have made him go back in to fix anything! Anyway, so now it has been several months and I have finally quit worrying! Remember, God's plan is perfect...rofl!

By Bobbie on Thursday, April 8, 2004 - 12:23 am:

From the mother of post Big V, TWINS.... I gave birth to the girls two days shy of DH's 5 year post V anniversary. HELLO!!! If there are swimmers there might have been a mistake... If there is a mistake there might be a pregnancy and no the pregnancy doesn't have to happen three months post V it can take years... No doctor is 100% all the time and just like with any other BC the big V has been known to fail... When they say we need to retest they mean it they do it for a reason... As in there is a rate of failure and the only way to know it worked is through the lack of swimmers in the sample. So for the men that don't want to have another child they need to do what they need to do and compared to what we have to go through taking a cup in is minor. I mean heck if they said bring in a cup or lay down for a pap I bet everyone of us would line up around the block with a cup.... Anyway, test test test and test some more if that is what it takes for all you mom's that are trying to talk DH into taking the big step into the world of the V. LOL

Oh and by the way.... YEAH PAM!!!! Hope it was a wonderful evening...
