Scrapbooking?

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive March 2004: Scrapbooking?

Is this as complicated as I'm making it out to be? What do you use to secure the pictures to the album or paper and how do you preserve the pictures? Website scrapbooking.com gave me some info.

By Kaye on Friday, March 26, 2004 - 07:23 pm:

scrapbooking can be as difficult as you want to make it! Basically you take your pictures and put them in photo safe albums (acid and lignin free) use only papers, glues, etc that are safe and then write next to them. You can get supplies at any craft store or you can use a home based business like Creative memories, Stampin Up, Close to My Heart. Or you can order supplies online. For elaborate pages you can look at www.magicscraps.com. They sell embelleshements, but not albums.

I use a glue stick to glue my pics. to paper. it works really well. There is also a tape that is double sided that works really well too. Good luck.

Acid free glue sticks is what I use too. It is important to use acid free everything that touches your pictures, it helps to preserve them. The paper is about .50 a sheet and from there is really depends what you want.

Like Kaye said it can be complicated or not. A lot of scrapbook stores have classes, they are usually free. I know the one in our area charges $2 an hour to sit at their table and work, you can add up supplies as you go but all the scissors and cutting supplies are free to use, you also have someone to help you.

Scrapbooking is so much fun....but be careful, it's addicting! There are so many new, fun techniques out there that the possibilities are endless.
I use gluesticks or the tape glue to put the pictures on with. Like mentioned above, make sure everything is acid free.
If you have a newspaper article (kids winning trophies, birthdays etc.) you can buy spray to spray the paper with so that you can use it in your scrapbook. It also prevents it from yellowing.
We are in Utah and scrapbooking here is VERY popular. So, we get good prices on paper due to all of the competition. We get patterned paper for about 28 cents per sheet (8x10) and cardstock for 7 cents per sheet.

I dont know much about scrapbooking b/c i'm not very artistic... but my SIL is wonderful at it, people pay her to make them. She does buy most of her supplies on *ebay* and makes a great deal. Especially holiday ones, she just buys them at a different time of the year.

BTW, a great hobby to get into! :)

I use the Creative Memories tape runner to secure my pictures. Much less mess! And it is very addicting but expensive! It is such a wonderful hobby to get into, and chronicle your family's history.

Great thanks for the info. I will remember to buy Acid Free.

I agree with the tape runner! Much easier! I use the Hermafix brand. Very addicting! :)
