Ideas on a recycling project???

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive March 2004: Ideas on a recycling project???

My dd(7) has a project at school called "Trash Treasures" where they are supposed to take used materials and make something else out of them. Like different sized containers of some sort and put them together as a desk organizer.

The only thing we can think of is making a bird feeder out of materials such as a 2 liter bottle.

Any ideas? All are welcome. We have to turn it in sometime this week.

Take a 2 liter pop bottle....cut the top part off so it looks kind of like a big glass....take paint(I have used fabric paint before in a pinch, but usually just acrylic is best)....paint it on the outside any way you like.....take a hole punch and punch 2 holes across from eachother on the top ......tie some string or an old shoelace through the holes to make a handle(make it a bit long)....put a tea light in the bottom.....you get a beautiful lantern! ......I made a bunch when I had a big outdoor barbeque and hung them all along my fence and they were gorgeous...

Use a coffe can or some sort of can like it, decorate it any way you want to and it can be used to hold pens, pencils, markers, and, or crayons

We made a purse out of an old coffee can. With String and construction paper and any decorations.

We made a wind chime with spoons and coffee can.

These are all great ideas... I love the lantern idea...May use that when we have cookouts and bonfires this summer!

Thanks so much everyone!
