Moms secrets gained from message boards??

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive March 2004: Moms secrets gained from message boards??
By Rwja on Friday, March 19, 2004 - 02:37 am:

Hi, I am Wen. This looks like a great group of Moms. I have 2 teens boys who love baseball and computers (take after mom?) and I've been married 20 years to the same great guy...highschool sweethearts.

I thought it would be kinda fun/interesting to see what you've learned just by talking to other Mom's/friends from message boards. I'll start with me and I'll try to only list the things that really changed or helped my life.

Lexapro for post-partum, pms, depression. Or over the counter 5HTP..both work well during those tough times.

Manual microdermabrasion for wrinkles and scars. Wrinkles are hardly noticeable and scars much much better...it sands off the dead layers of skin well.

Vitamin E for leg cramps

Butt paste for Diaper rash and other skin problems...yes, that's the real name...yuck huh?

Thermal reconditioned hair aka Japanese straightener...I went from Poof head to Jennifer Aniston..well not quite, but I felt like it :)

Klear-Action and Tetracycline for my son's acne-now 80-90% better...took a couple months to see a huge difference tho.

CanClear/Cansemal for suspicious skin lesions. I've removed 5 skin cancers from my face at home. Just wipe this stuff on and it burns the cancer off (follow up with Doc tho).

Anyway, those are my biggest life changers, what are yours?

By Dana on Friday, March 19, 2004 - 08:47 am:

Is CanClear/Cansemal OTC? Pre-cancerous skin problems on the face and shoulders run in my immediate family. Everyone has had them frozen off so far.

Can you email me with more info about this stuff? rikidog@yahoo.com

By Momaroze on Friday, March 19, 2004 - 09:43 am:

I wish I could add to the list. I've tried so many products I am actually quite disappointed with most. Manual microdermabrasion? Is this done by a dermatologist? What a great posting. If I think of anything I will add to the list. I was going to try the 5HTP but was skeptical. :)

By Janet on Friday, March 19, 2004 - 10:21 am:

Are you selling these items?

By Mommyathome on Friday, March 19, 2004 - 10:25 am:

I don't think she's selling any of these. They are sold in stores. With the exceptions of the prescriptions which have to be prescribed by your physician.

BTW....I took Lexapro for post-partum as well :)
I just seen the Butt Paste thing on Oprah awhile back. LOL

Wen said "I thought it would be kinda fun/interesting to see what you've learned just by talking to other Mom's/friends from message boards. I'll start with me and I'll try to only list the things that really changed or helped my life." She's not trying to sell anything!!lol

OK, call me suspicious. I'm sorry. :( I didn't mean to start anything, really I didn't.

Wow you guys, if I could sell these items, I'd be rich...especially Lexapro. I wish I sold this but I don't. Most are just plain old over the counters...and last time I checked, Walgreens won't give commission :)...but thanks for questioning me. I know what's it's like to see annoying messages. I once saw "read this and you can make $6,000" or something like that I fell for this scam and lost 6 bucks and now when I see that, I warn people it's a scam. The Microdermabrasion I actually heard of when I was on my hair message board (the beauty section) and I saw someones post. I tried a sample for a couple bucks and was hooked. I think I started that one over a year ago. I didn't see a huge difference for several months, but it does really help. Oh, for those of you who already use it. I didn't know this, but you need to keep rubbing until it balls up as this is when the real work/sanding is occuring.

Dana, I sent you an email back.

By Rwja on Friday, March 19, 2004 - 02:14 pm:

Momaroze, 5htp did help, but Lexapro was better for me. There are people that swear by both, so I think it just depends what works for that person. I was also on Paxil many years ago, but trying to get off of that is a nightmare. You have to wean very slowly.

Re: microdermabrasion..sorry I didn't answer your question. It can be done by a professional, but that isn't what I do...way too much money. I spend about $45.00 every two months on the one I use. If someone has deep scars or wrinkles, they'll probably go through it faster than that, like one jar a month. I did that at first, but now I don't.

By Rwja on Friday, March 19, 2004 - 02:18 pm:

Btw, what does DH mean. I see this everywhere. Is it dear husband??

By Payday614 on Friday, March 19, 2004 - 02:53 pm:

Yes, if you go onto the Moms View Message Board and scroll down to Posting Fun there's a list of Common Abbreviations to help you out :)

By Karen~moderator on Friday, March 19, 2004 - 02:55 pm:

Yes, there's a list of the common *abbreviations* here........Just click on *Posting Fun* on the topics page.

By Rwja on Friday, March 19, 2004 - 03:07 pm:

Oh...thanks you guys. I always wondered what that meant.

By Rwja on Friday, March 19, 2004 - 03:13 pm:

Oh, I have another great one to add.
I had real bad Sciatic pain and I got a cushion that I put on every seat I sit in. No more hip pain. I sit a lot in my job and on the computer and if you guys notice you get pain from sitting too long, or you're in a soft couch/chair...it's probably sciatica. Walking is the best exercise for it...and sitting correctly is the next..from what I read. Anyway..my bum is much better. I forgot the name of it..something like Ergo cushion..I'll have to check on that one. It was expensive (like $50 bucks, butt (lol) so worth it)

By Janet on Friday, March 19, 2004 - 04:17 pm:

Uh-oh, Wen...your accent is showing! Are you British? :)

By Rwja on Friday, March 19, 2004 - 06:32 pm:

No..not brittish, but love the accent anyway and love to talk like that for fun :)

By Amecmom on Friday, March 19, 2004 - 07:26 pm:

microdermabrasion sounds good - especially with this pregnancy melasma I've been getting. What brand do you use? Where do you get it? Thanks for your good post.
Ame

By Fionadeassis on Friday, March 19, 2004 - 08:21 pm:

pregnancy melasma?....Is that the horrible brown spot I have had on my cheek for about 1 month? I thought I was just noticing my freckles more than usual.....LOL

fiona

By Bobbie on Friday, March 19, 2004 - 11:18 pm:

Yes Fiona it is probably pregnancy melasma. With you being pregnant there is not much you can do about it. And usually when your hormones calm down after the birth/recoup it will fade away. If it doesn't there are creams (bleaching) that you can use to get the spots to go away. But for now you will just have to deal with the spots because the chemicals are not to be used when pregnant. Try using a sun screen to keep them from getting darker. Use it daily as a moisturizer. UV light will make the spots darker. Suggestion from my Derm..

By Amecmom on Saturday, March 20, 2004 - 06:03 pm:

Fiona -
In addition to sunscreen, my dermatologist suggested using a mild hydrocortisone cream on the brown spots. It helps a bit. I used a really wonderful product with my first pregnancy, or course, I can't remember what it was called, or where I got it. Maybe my pregnant brain will remember before my face turns into a melasma mask.

Wen -
Really, please tell me the name of the dermabrasion product and where I can get it. If you feel uncomfortable about leaving that information because of the previous posts, please email it to me at AChiera@msn.com
Thanks,
Ame

I'm still lost "microdermabrasion" I will see what comes up on the internet. Wen, did you gain weight on Lexapro. My doctor wanted to prescribe that for my postpartum. He actually put me on Wellbutrin.....I thought that was kind of odd but I will give it a try anyway. I am trying some new products I will let you know if they are any good!

By Momaroze on Saturday, March 20, 2004 - 06:20 pm:

I'm likely on the wrong track here. Do you use the micordermabrasion cream? I hate my under eye wrinkles when I smile....is it good for that too. I did go to the website but they have so much re: microdermabrasion products? Help! Also do you have to buy it on the web...I'm also very interested in the Can clear/Cansemol? Where can you purchase that? Thanks.

By Rwja on Sunday, March 21, 2004 - 04:38 pm:

Here is a site you guys can purchase the microdermabrasion from. I had bought several, and since then I see the price has gone up.

I do NOT sell this, but I'd be willing to let you guys try some of one of the unopened jars I have. Sorry, I am not rich enough for it to go out for free :) but email me if you want to try a little sample before you spend the money on it. I'd be happy to put some from a new jar into a little plastic container for you. I bought my first one on ebay over a year ago, but I don't see it there anymore.

Re: my skin cancer treatment.
Here is my testimony that Centrforce (where I buy mine from) has put online.

LINK REMOVED BY MODERATORS - SEE GUIDELINES RE: ADVERTISING

Below my testimony, if you click on the site, it will go directly to Australia Centrforce and you can get it there. I don't sell it, but if you have questions, I am sure, they'll be happy to help you, or I can try first. They have been very helpful.

The small container is 0.8 oz, but I've tested out around 20 suspicious lesions and 4 actual cancers. My Doctor is thinking of offering this to her patients after seeing my progress, and I think that would be awesome for those who don't want surgery.

By Vicki on Sunday, March 21, 2004 - 05:09 pm:

Just a quick question on this microdermabrasion...is just the cream better? I have seen things that they sell a cream along with this little machine that you use to work it into the skin. Is it better to do it with your fingers or use this machine? This is actually something I have been thinking about for some time and would love input from people that have done it or currently do it at home. How often do you use it?

By Rwja on Sunday, March 21, 2004 - 08:02 pm:

I havn't used the machine, but some people who have used the machine said that this worked better. The trick is to use your fingers until it balls up (that is when you are getting the microdermabrasion). But maybe some here will say they've had better luck with the machine. Anyone else?

By Rwja on Sunday, March 21, 2004 - 08:09 pm:

Oh, btw, I forgot to mention. The skin cancer salve that I use is also on ebay:

Momaroze,
sorry I forgot to answer your question about Lexapro and weight gain. When I was on Paxil the first time, I gained about 50 lbs, but I felt much better mentally. When I had switched to Lexapro (for PMS) I knew to watch it. I lost the 50 lbs I had gained.... about 2 years ago and have kept it off by following the South Beach diet and Gluten free diet (I am allergic to gluten). And this is my secret now. I only have size 6 pants in my closet. I refuse to buy any bigger sizes (we are not planning to have anymore children). Anyway, when my size 6 pants get tight/snug, I begin to cut down on my portion sizes (or nuts...darn it) until my pants fit well again. My sister has done this all her adult life. She is 40 yrs old, and she remains in a size 4 pant...never a weight problem. When I had asked her her secret (you know I am good for that :) she said "when my pants get snug, I increase my exercise and cut down a bit, but I never buy bigger pants" And this is working fine for me. Hope this helps. You don't have to gain weight just because people say they do on anti-dep. But I think Lexapro you'll see woman don't pack it on like Paxil. I also have thyroid disease and I am fine. Oh, but I do take fish oil caps at Costco and vit E which I read "is supposed to help you not gain as much weight if you're on anti-dep" I can't find the article for the life of me, but ever since I read that, I started doing that.

Sorry about the links. I guess if you guys want to know more, you can email me so that we don't violate the board rules. Sorry :-(
