We leave for NYC tomorrow and ds woke up sick

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive March 2004: We leave for NYC tomorrow and ds woke up sick
By Debbie on Thursday, March 18, 2004 - 09:20 am:

It never fails. Ds has been healthy all winter. This morning he woke up with a runny nose and a little cough. No fever though. We are suppose to leave tomorrow. I can change our trip, but it will cost us $400.00 to change our flights. Also, it is ds's spring break next week, so he is only missing one day of school-tomorrow.

So, I don't know what to do. I am going to keep him home from school this afternoon and just keep the fluids and medicine going all day. I am hoping it is just allergies since he was sneezing all day yesterday.

I don't want him to feel bad on our trip, but I don't know if he is sick enough to cancel. Gosh, I would hate to cancel and then he is fine come Saturday, but I would hate to go and he gets worse. Urggggggggg.... Thanks for letting me vent.

Why don't you take him to the doctor and tell him you are leaving see if there is anything he can give you to fight it off and maybe to reassure you about leaving a little.

This always seems to happen, if it's not vacation, it's on the weekend when the doctor is closed.

Good luck, I hope he feels better.

By Karen~moderator on Thursday, March 18, 2004 - 09:31 am:

What are the chances of you getting him in to see the Dr. today, just to be sure?

By Sunny on Thursday, March 18, 2004 - 09:38 am:

I hope he feels better.

It might not be a bad idea to call the doctor and explain the situation.

By Debbie on Thursday, March 18, 2004 - 09:47 am:

I just got off the phone with the doctor. Ds has bad allergies and sometimes it turns into a cough right away. They are going to call in a perscription for the medicine that his old doctor always prescribed when this happened. I love my new pediatrician. It is snowing here and, so they were like "Don't take him out in the snow, we will just call it in without seeing him". Yea.

Ds is already bugging me to death, so he must not feel too bad.

I guess I can always canel tomorrow if he feels really bad when we wake up. We don't leave until noon. The hotel said as long as I cancel by 6pm tomorrow there is no charge and the airlines will charge me the same fee up until the time we leave.

I am glad that things are l:):)king better for your trip. If you go, have fun and let us know how it was.

Oh no, Debbie! Hang in there. I bet he will be fine to travel!

When DD was 6 months old, she got her first ever fever the night before we were supposed to fly out. I called our Ped. and he said just to go for it. LOL!

Good Luck!

(((Debbie)))

I have a dh and 2 dds that have allergies. Oldest dd had a major headache because of it yesterday. Weather has been drastically changing the past few weeks.

My sinuses (sp?) is turning into an infection:(

I believe your dr. is right. I love spring and fall but oh the allergies and sinus problems that come with it.

I hope you all have a safe and fun trip!

By Debbie on Thursday, March 18, 2004 - 12:44 pm:

Well, I am changing our trip until next month. I am just going to make it for 3 nights instead of 4 and Jordan will only miss 2 days of school. I found a cheaper flight, so it will only cost $150.00 to makes the changes and with one less night of the hotel it is actually cheaper to go next month. Ds says his stomach hurts now and he has a fever. He just fell asleep and just really looks out of it. I also talked with my brother and they are saying it is going to rain Sunday and it is going to be in the 30's Monday and Tuesday. Urgggggggg. I am disappointed and not too happy since I spent all day yesterday packing. BUT I am going with my gut that says we shouldn't go. Oh, what a great beginning to spring break!!

{{{{{{{Debbie}}}}}}}} Hang in there! Considering the weather there, maybe this is the best thing...............

By Fraggle on Thursday, March 18, 2004 - 05:11 pm:

Oh no Debbie, sorry your trip has to be postponed, but at least it will be warmer in NYC by then.

By Feona on Friday, March 19, 2004 - 06:42 am:

We are having a snow storm again. You don't want to be here today.

By Dawnk777 on Friday, March 19, 2004 - 06:57 am:

I'm sorry you had to cancel your trip. I have never been to NYC, so I would have been really excited about going. A trip with a sick kid would be no fun, though. I hope things work out better for next month.

By Debbie on Friday, March 19, 2004 - 08:54 am:

Ds feels terrible, so I am really glad we changed things. There is no way he could have flown today.

Feona, my brother called last night and said it was a good thing we changed our trip because they are suppose to get about 6 inches today!!! Guess things work out for a reason.

I am over my disappointment and just happy we were able to reschedule things for next month.

By Eve on Friday, March 19, 2004 - 09:14 am:

(((Debbie))) Hang in there. It does sound like it's a good thing you changed your trip plans. NYC will be even better next month!:)

By Dawnk777 on Friday, March 19, 2004 - 10:07 am:

Watched The Today Show for about a half-hour this morning. I saw Viktor Petrenko figure skating on the big rink in the snow! I wouldn't want to be there today, either.

Sorry, your little guy feels so awful. Hopefully he will feel better soon.

By Happynerdmom on Friday, March 19, 2004 - 10:12 am:

It all goes to show you things happen for a reason! You'll have a great trip next month, and you'll get to look forward to it even longer. (That's one of the best parts of a trip, imo!) Hope your ds feels better soon.
