Scrapbooking/card making

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive March 2004: Scrapbooking/card making

I really like the idea of scrapbooking, but I know I would never be able to keep up with it and that would drive me crazy. Are there similar kits or items out there for making cards? I like the idea of that, but really have no idea what I need to buy to get started or really what all you can do with them. Any help would be great!!

There is a company called "stampin up", they sell sets of stamps, inks, paper etc. It is very similar to scrapping. I do both. They have a website...www.stampinup.com.

Thanks Kaye! I have heard people talk about them, but didn't know they had things for cards too! I love the looks of scrap books, but I just know I couldn't keep up with it. I think it would be beautiful to be able to make cards with that look!! I will check it out! Thanks again!!

I went to a "Stampin up" party last month. It was so much fun, and Im so NOT creative. We we were able to make 3 cards each. There are alot of different steps for each card, but the lady showed us how to do each and every one. My 9 yr old son came with me, and he had just as much fun as I did. And, the lady let him make cards of his own.

I love to make hand-made cards. I buy a lot of stamps and inks through stampin'up. I bet you would really like it. I have an embossing gun which I love. There are all different colors of embossing powder now days and the possibilities are endless. If you can, try to find a stampin' up demonstrator in your area and ask if you can see one of their catalogs. There are tons of ideas in it and you can see all the prices etc.

Stampin Up is AWESOME!!! I have been one of their customers for a little over a year and I love it!!! If I had time I would probably become a demonstrator. It is so fun to make cards!!!

I think you will like it if you try it!!!

I like Close to My Heart, too. I buy from both companies. Close to My Heart has two programs that teach scrapbooking and card layout, complete with dimensions and directions. I have one of the card programs and the scrapbook programs. I like the designs of the stamps of both companies, sometimes they are very similar. They are both based out of Utah and have strong Mormon ties. I used to make cards more than I do now, since I am working on my professional certification and have a full time job. I still scrap occasionally. I like Close to My Heart's kits that have been out about a year. They are so easy to use. They come with preplanned backgrounds and then art that you can punch out and apply to the pages if you want. Both companies are about the same cost-wise, even though they claim to be the cheapest. You have to put SU stamps together and not CTMH. I like the markers and inks better from SU. I like the colors better from CTMH. Like I said, both are good companies. Look over a catalog from each company. The catalogs are very expensive and they "give them away" if you "host a party" and help out their sales. They are multi-level direct sales companies if you like those.

Kaye, That would be a wonderful idea!! How fun!!!

Are you going to volunteer to head it up???? lol

By Kaye on Sunday, March 14, 2004 - 09:39 am:

Yes I will volunteer to head it up!

Who all is interested?? It would amount to making XX number of cards, mailing them to me, with a self addressed envelope and when I get them all I would mail your envelope filled with different cards from the other ladies.

I'm game!!!

Are we going to have any restrictions or just making XX number of cards? Theme?

Let me know!!!

By Vicki on Sunday, March 14, 2004 - 12:25 pm:

I would be game in about 6 months or so after I get some supplies and practice under my belt....trust me, no one would want anything I make just yet. LOL If this goes well and you guys want to do another, I would be game if I get the hang of it!! It is a great idea!!

I'm with you, Vicki! I have a friend who just became a Stampin Up consultant, so I am venturing into making cards and such. Not ready to send anything now, but in a few months I would probably be willing to join in the fun! :)
