How do you clean your kitchen sink (stainless steel) and your counters? Do you use a special cleaner or vinegar?

By Ladypeacek on Wednesday, March 10, 2004 - 08:05 am:

I hope you get good responses to this, I have stainless steel too and i hate it!! It always looks bad!

By Kittycat_26 on Wednesday, March 10, 2004 - 08:15 am:

I just sprinkle baking soda on it and then scrub it with a little bit of water.

Seems to do the job well for me.

Baking soda and vinegar. Vinegar is good for almost everything. On occasion I will use a little dilluted bleach.

When I had stainless steel, I just used a scrubby with a little dish detergent on it after the dishes were washed....once in a while, I would use comet or ajax.

Now I have a white sink and I HATE it! It gets dirty every day(tea and coffee stain it orange). The only way to get it really white is with bleach(even comet won't do it).

I am sad, because, even in my new house(we move in in june) the sinks are white-but they are 38 years old and really scratched.....oh well.

I wash with dish soap, rinse and dry. About every 2-3 weeks I fill the sinks with hot water and bleach, let set for 1 hour, drain, rinse and dry. (a flylady thing) :)

I saw on Heloise's website that vinegar or rubbing alcohol will make your stainless steel/chrome shine. I've been using vinegar lately and it works pretty well.

Not too long ago I had a clogged kitchen sink and couldn't get to the store. I read on the internet to mix baking soda and vinegar and the foaming action would clear the sick. Not only did it clear my sink but my sink looks brand new. It made it sparkling clean!

We use clorox bleach gel in our sink.

By Coopaveryben on Wednesday, March 10, 2004 - 11:18 am:

I use comet

By Sue3 on Wednesday, March 10, 2004 - 12:47 pm:

My mom has had a stainless steel sink, in one house or the other for the last 25 years. She is anal-retentive about drying it out after she does dishes so that it doesn't get water spots.

I have a white sink, and for the stubborn stain, Soft Soap does the trick immediately.

By Tunnia on Wednesday, March 10, 2004 - 04:20 pm:

I use comet on mine.

Feona, for the marks on your white sink, try using a pumice stick, you can find them at Home depot, and they are awesome! My pots and pans make so many marks on my white sink, and for the longest time I could not get rid of the marks and my sink looked awful, til I discovered the pumice, and now I use it every day and my sink always looks brand new!

I usually just clean w/ dish soap and dry. However, since purchasing the enviro steamer, I use that when ever I think it is looking dull. It did a great job getting rid of the coffee/tea stains around the main drain.
