Naming Baby

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive March 2004: Naming Baby
By Kym on Tuesday, March 9, 2004 - 05:00 pm:

I am due in mid may w/ my 4th child and we are struggling w/ names I was sure it was a girl and we were prepared for that however we have found out it's a boy and are nameless. So I am looking for suggestions. My other three children have long a sounds in there names, Hailey, Aidan and Avery, so I would like a long A but can't find anything we like. So I am looking for help, if you have any great names to pass along with or without the long A please do, and last names too, I mean for the first name of course!LOL
Thanks

By Happynerdmom on Tuesday, March 9, 2004 - 05:04 pm:

Fun!! My dd's name is Kayla, so I'm partial to that one, although it's much more common now than it was 14 years ago.

By Kate on Tuesday, March 9, 2004 - 05:17 pm:

Caleb is a fave of mine. Congratulations!

By Kaye on Tuesday, March 9, 2004 - 05:29 pm:

Brayden, Hayden, Abraham, Abel, Adrian, Chase, Trey...hmmm

By Happynerdmom on Tuesday, March 9, 2004 - 05:45 pm:

Duh! I didn't read your post very carefully...I guess a boy named "Kayla" isn't such a good idea! How about Clay or Zane?

By Mommyathome on Tuesday, March 9, 2004 - 05:45 pm:

Hayden has always been on our name list :)

By Coopaveryben on Tuesday, March 9, 2004 - 05:48 pm:

My sons name is Avery!

I thought about these:
Scout, Keller, Conner, Cooper(another one of mine), Bennett, Asher (my Neighbor and we almost used it on our 3rd)

I named my kids last names for their first and didn't realize I did it until later.

By Payday614 on Tuesday, March 9, 2004 - 06:30 pm:

I named our daughter "Tanner" (it's supposed to be a boys' name, but I was young and thought it'd be unique)

By Kate on Tuesday, March 9, 2004 - 06:41 pm:

My seven year old is very into names for some reason. She mostly ponders girl names though, so I thought I might stump her with your long A boy name question. Nope, she immediately rattled off 'Abraham, Cain, and Abel. :)

I looked at my school directory and came up with:
James
Layton
Nathan
Blake
Chase
Jacob

Also, didn't Barbie just dump Ken for 'Blaine'?

By Melanie on Tuesday, March 9, 2004 - 06:53 pm:

If dd was a boy she would have been Shane. :)

By Palmbchprincess on Tuesday, March 9, 2004 - 07:03 pm:

I'm partial to Shane, and Gage is a nice name. My son is Shane Jacob, both have long A's I'll have to put some thought into it...

By Mommyathome on Tuesday, March 9, 2004 - 07:07 pm:

Chase is a cute name.
Coopaveryben....my DS's name is Cooper :)

By Trisa on Tuesday, March 9, 2004 - 08:01 pm:

I like Garrett, Hunter and Brandon

By Fionadeassis on Tuesday, March 9, 2004 - 08:05 pm:

Damien....or does it still have "scary movie connotations?

If I had been a boy (in 1968)...I would have been Damien....the movie came out a year later I think. Now what was that movie called? Oh yeah- the OMEN !!!!!!

fiona(whose sons middle name is Gabriel)

By Payday614 on Tuesday, March 9, 2004 - 08:08 pm:

My son's name is Damien (hubby's idea) and boy does he lives up to that name :)

By Cat on Tuesday, March 9, 2004 - 08:12 pm:

I love the name Gabriel. Damien came to my mind, too, but yes, it does have that movie stigma attached to it! lol I also like a lot of what Kate listed. Good luck! :)

By Fionadeassis on Tuesday, March 9, 2004 - 08:49 pm:

My baby is due at the end of June...don't know if it is a boy or girl but we are totally stumped for a name too.....

By Jtsmom on Wednesday, March 10, 2004 - 10:00 am:

My baby is due the end of May and we have decided on William Luke, but I really wanted Gabriel for a name. I think that its beautiful name for a boy. Good luck!

By Conni on Wednesday, March 10, 2004 - 10:03 am:

We have a friend that named their ds Addison--I love it! They just named their dd Whitaker. I love that as well.

Alot of good ones above! I love Shane, Tate, Taylor, Talon (short a), Tabor (long a), Jackson, Jake, Layken, Dayne, and Lane. ( I have a nephew named Lane Austin--too CUTE!) Oh Nate is cute too.

Congrats~ Boys really are the best! (of course I am partial being mom to 4 boys)

By Marg on Wednesday, March 10, 2004 - 10:13 am:

It's funny we always had boy's names picked out and we had three girls, lol!

We liked
Aaron
Joshua (though I know this is a common one) It went well with our last name and now this is our nephew's name on dh's side!
Paul

Mom always said you have to have a first and second name that goes well together so when you yell their name it sounds good!

She used to yell out the window at supper time

M - A - R - G - A - R - E - T ----- E - L - V - A

I was named after my greatgrandmother, it did sound well when she yelled it altogether, however, there aren't many young girls with the name Margaret, in fact I know more older women with this name than younger, lol;)

By My2girlygirls on Wednesday, March 10, 2004 - 10:24 am:

I know what you mean about a good yellling name. My oldest dd is Courtney Brooke (great for yelling) for my youngest dd I wanted Kiersten Paige (also good for yelling) however DH wanted her named after me so she is Kiersten Sarah (not so good for yelling) People have the hardest time pronouncing her name, she gets Kirstin,Kristin and even Christian. I tell people it is just like it is spelled Kiersten (Kier- just like pier- sten) I thought spelling it this way would make it easier... I guess not.

By Kolbysmom on Wednesday, March 10, 2004 - 10:26 am:

I like Peyton for a boy or a girl. I have a cousin(girl) named Peyton, so I'll never get to use the name.

By Cat on Wednesday, March 10, 2004 - 10:46 am:

There's a little boy at church named Sabien. I thought of David, also. Just a couple others I thought of. :)

By Ladypeacek on Wednesday, March 10, 2004 - 10:51 am:

By Wandilu on Wednesday, March 10, 2004 - 03:38 pm:

my grandson's middle name is Micaiah (pronounced my-cay-ah )but i don't think that i spelled it correctly.

By Tunnia on Wednesday, March 10, 2004 - 04:13 pm:

How about:

Grayson
Ray
Jace
Jason
Wayne
Jay

By Momoffour on Wednesday, March 10, 2004 - 06:39 pm:

I have always like Jamison.

By Beth on Thursday, March 11, 2004 - 01:25 am:

My son is Chase, so there is another vote for that one! I was going to use Zayne if I had another boy. But I ended up with Kaycee, girl. But Casey for a boy is nice to.

By Tyaustinsma on Thursday, March 11, 2004 - 07:49 am:

I named my son Austin, also love the name Noah, and Brady

By Fionadeassis on Thursday, March 11, 2004 - 09:52 am:

What about Kasey or David or Frankie?

I love the name Brady!!

By Payday614 on Thursday, March 11, 2004 - 11:57 am:

We thought if we had another girl we were going to name her Dayla Cassandra.

My brother named his daughter Aria (said like Mariah w/out the M) Taylor.

By Rayanne on Thursday, March 11, 2004 - 12:09 pm:

What about:

Ace, Bailey, Caleb, Dane, Hadden, Kacey, Lane, Mason, Taylor, or Wade?

Mason is my favorite. I hope that these help you out!! Let us know what you decide!!:)

By Kym on Thursday, March 11, 2004 - 04:00 pm:

thanks for all the great ideas, I think we are leaning toward, Gavin, Garrett,Kieran or Mason,I love Nate, but a one syllable name, (like mine) doesn't go w/ our last name! I like Lyndon because my mom's name was Linda, but dh doesn't like it:(
Feona, we were going to name a girl Adellein so w/ all these boys suggestions, there's a girls.

Well maybe he'll come out w/ a name tag and I'll know then, ho hummmmmmmm

By Conni on Thursday, March 11, 2004 - 08:27 pm:

I love Gavin Lyndon or Lyndon Garrett. Good luck deciding.

I wanted my last baby to be named Blaine or Landon. DH didnt like it Blaine. So we settled on Blake Landon. :)

Good luck!

By Mommyathome on Thursday, March 11, 2004 - 08:32 pm:

I like Drake. I also like Garrett.
If you like Nate, you could go with Nathan....then just call him Nate for short. That technically gives him a 2 syllabal first name.

By Jessicac1979 on Wednesday, March 24, 2004 - 10:13 pm:

I like the name Blain it is after my grandfather. My husband likes Walter after his grandfather I said maybe for middle name. Also Joshua, Hayden, Justin, Dylan, Kevin, Bryce. I hope some of those help! Good Luck in picking one.

By Melana on Thursday, March 25, 2004 - 07:04 pm:
