Daffodils

Moms View Message Board: General Discussion: Archive February 2004: Daffodils
By Dawnk777 on Thursday, February 26, 2004 - 03:24 pm:

Well, not quite yet, but they have started growing. I think the sprouts are about 2-inches high! Would take a picture, but as usual, I don't know where the digital camera is, probably with DH and he is working already. Well, they will be there tomorrow. I was noticing today how much snow is gone from the south side of my house, when I saw something green!

In addition, it feels like spring, with temps in the low 40's!

By Marg on Thursday, February 26, 2004 - 03:29 pm:

OMG Dawn I can't believe it!

AFter today we are supposed to be in the 50's and next week in the 60's! I am ready for spring:)

By Kittycat_26 on Thursday, February 26, 2004 - 03:37 pm:

I've got the same thing at my house. Sprouts of daffodils that are about 2 inches high.

By Happynerdmom on Thursday, February 26, 2004 - 03:39 pm:

I just noticed my daffodil sprouts today, too! It always makes me smile. I love winter, but I'm always ready for spring when it comes!

By Colette on Thursday, February 26, 2004 - 03:41 pm:

We've got them too. I hope we don't get any more snow...

I've been buying them at the store. $1.49 for 10 stems. they really brighten up the house.

By Mommyathome on Thursday, February 26, 2004 - 03:50 pm:

Well, today it is freezing cold and raining.
But, I did notice that I can see the tips of some Iris' peeking out on the side of the house. They look fairly strong and pretty green. I was surprised to see them already. We cut them all the way down last fall. It gave me a glimmer of hope that spring is on it's way!

By Sue3 on Thursday, February 26, 2004 - 04:45 pm:

ooooooo I`ll have to check mine

By Fraggle on Thursday, February 26, 2004 - 04:48 pm:

Sigh......After a snowstorm this past weekend everything is covered in snow again. The first flowers to come up here are my crocuses but not usually until late March or April. The last couple of days we have been above 32 and it has felt great-can't wait until it hits 40!

By Dawnk777 on Thursday, February 26, 2004 - 11:21 pm:

Fraggle, 40's are nice. We only recently hit 40 here in WI. I live close to the lake, which is a blessing and a curse. In the summer, it's nice because lake breezes keep us cool, sometimes. In the winter, they keep us warmer. Now, when we want to be warm, lakebreezes will keep us cooler, so inland will be nice and warm and we will be chilly by Lake Michigan. "Cooler near the lake" is a phrase we often hear on the weather reports!

By Dana on Friday, February 27, 2004 - 09:10 am:

You guys have got to be kidding! 40's make you think of spring!? That is the dead of winter..brrrrrr.

I just took some pictures of our oak tree and the new leaves. I can't believe they are already on the trees so soon. The pictures didn't turn out very nicely, so I didn't bother posting. But we are seeing SPRING GREEN in our trees :)

By Sue3 on Friday, February 27, 2004 - 10:48 am:

LOL Dana ! I had to check your profile again. Yep , just what I thought , you live in Fla. LOL.
I just talked to my sister today (she is in gulf port) and she goes oooooooooh it is so cold here
I have on a turtle neck and a sweat shirt.
So I think wow ! it must be about 35 degrees or so.How cold is it I ask ?
She say`s it`s only 55 right now ! This was in the early morning also.
I just laughed , if it was 55 here I would have all my windows open letting that warm air inside my home and Then I would go out side and do some yard work.Us northeners think anything above 30 is warm.

By Bellajoe on Friday, February 27, 2004 - 10:50 am:

When it's been at or below zero for months, 40s does feel like a heat wave! It's supposed to be in the 50's here this weekend! Whoo hoo!

My daffodils are coming up too. I can't wait till later in the spring to see whatever else i planted....i can't remember. I think i planted daffodils, tulips, lilys and maybe something else...hyacinths maybe. I guess it will be a nice surprise!

By Happynerdmom on Friday, February 27, 2004 - 10:58 am:

The temp reached around 45 one day last week and my 13 yo dd came down ready for school in SHORTS! I said nice try, but I don't think so! Since it will get into the 50's this weekend, she'll probably have her swimsuit out! LOL

By Dana on Friday, February 27, 2004 - 11:05 am:

Sue3, I live very close to Gulf Port. I live in Seminole, just North of St. Pete, which is just north of Guld Port.

And yes, I am cursing the temps today! Last week I put away the coats and had to pull it out today. I also turned the heater back on.

Current temp now, 54F at 11:am. Low was 47 today. Get me back to the 70's!

I honestly have no clue how you northerners (sp?) survive the winter months. I would surely die!

By Sue3 on Friday, February 27, 2004 - 11:39 am:

Yes , I know where Seminole is , we drove through there lots of times.
My sister works in St. Pete down town at an art gallery called sharppio`s (I know I spelled that wrong).
I visited her last year around this time. It was beautiful. We visited tarpon springs and the manatees and Fort Desoto Beach * sigh * it was so warm.
I am so excited because my home body DH just informed me yesterday that we are taking the kids to Disney next Feb.
We will need a year to save up ! LOL
We`ll fly into Tampa visit with my sister for a while go to busch gardens then drive to Disney.
I can`t wait !
I still might try to get away this Oct. to see her also.
I am afraid of the hurricanes though.
I guess they don`t come through the gulf side as much.
Well anyway next time I talk to her I will have to tell her I met one of her ( neighbors )LOL
Take Care , Sue

40's IS a heat wave. At the end of January, just a month ago, we were getting down to -10!!!!! That's 50 degrees COLDER! So, yes, 40's are a heat wave! I was running around without a jacket for most of today! Well, okay, I was getting hot loading 53 cases of Girl Scout cookies into my car then loading them into the house. (not every box by myself, though, DH and kids helped, too!) I was sooo hot.

By Colette on Saturday, February 28, 2004 - 07:33 am:

spring is almost here!! The birds were singing away this morning and it might hit 50 today!! whoo hoo:0)

By Dawnk777 on Saturday, February 28, 2004 - 10:01 am:

We have been slightly below freezing every morning this past week. I think nearly every day, I see guys at the high school wearing shorts. Some of those guys wear t-shirts and aren't wearing jackets, either! Brrr. Of course, young guys wear long shorts, but still. It's not that warm outside. DD11 just told me she has seen a girl in capris pants. I don't think it's really warm enough for them, either! LOL! Even in the colder weather, I could usually see SOME teenager wearing shorts.

By Sue3 on Saturday, February 28, 2004 - 10:25 am:

It`s suppose to be 50 here in Michigan tomorrow !
I am so excited.
Then they forecasted snow for next weekend .
I kwym Dawn , I was at the mall the other day
and a lot of the teenagers were wearing shorts. Maybe they have a higher metabolism so they stay warmer ?????

By Dawnk777 on Saturday, February 28, 2004 - 05:36 pm:

Maybe. I don't know why they all like their tummies showing, either. I would be freezing!

By Sue3 on Saturday, February 28, 2004 - 07:18 pm:

me too !!

By Dana on Saturday, February 28, 2004 - 08:51 pm:

I don't know whether to feel sorry for you guys being so happy about 40-50 degree temps or feel joy for you. All I know is that yesterday was just MISERABLE because it was so cold! I even had to put my coat on after already putting it away in the closet. I think it was 52 or something. I know it was at least 47 and maybe even colder. We are expecting in the 80's next week :) 70's are better, but anything is better than below 59.

By Happynerdmom on Saturday, February 28, 2004 - 09:31 pm:

Don't feel sorry for us Dana! Sledding, building snowmen, hot chocolate, cozy fires... there ARE joys in the cold! Of course, we are finished with that and ready to move on! The cold only makes the spring that much sweeter. My family is counting the days (26) until we are in your neck of the woods (St. Pete Beach)for spring break. Sun and sand! Yay! But, by the end of summer, I'm ready again for sledding, snowmen, hot chocolate, cozy fires...

By Dawnk777 on Sunday, February 29, 2004 - 01:42 am:

Feel sorry for us???? This afternoon, sweatshirt, long sleeve shirt, but NO JACKET! It is liberating to not feel like you have to put a jacket on all the time. Okay, so I didn't want to stay out long without a jacket, but it was doable. To you, Dana, 47 is cold, because it hasn't been colder yet. To us, we are on the upswing, so we have a much different perspective. 47 is cold after going through summer. To me, 45 today was almost 50!

By Dana on Sunday, February 29, 2004 - 06:55 am:

Then I will be happy for you! :) but, brrrrrrrrrrrr.

By Colette on Sunday, February 29, 2004 - 08:04 am:

doing the happy dance! the snow is almost gone!! I've already got the veg. garden planned (in my mind). Can't wait for spring!! It's going to be in the 50's again today and tomorrow and Oh My God!! it might hit 60 on Tuesday!! I am walking the beach if it does.

By Dawnk777 on Sunday, February 29, 2004 - 08:54 am:

Wow, lucky you. We have a chance of severe thunderstorms tomorrow, then the next day a chance of snow or rain. Only going to be 30's -40's all week. From thunderstorms to rain sounds about right for March. It can never decide whether it wants to be winter or spring!

By Wandilu on Sunday, February 29, 2004 - 02:38 pm:

i'm soooooo jealous !!!! i wanted at least ONE good snow, and all we got in our area was a few sprinkles !!!! last week, about 60 miles south of us got quiet a bit,but not us.even my dh was disappointed.i think it is 71 today.

By Dawnk777 on Sunday, February 29, 2004 - 05:08 pm:

I'll take 71. We did get up to 55 today.
