My Dh's secretary is getting married in April. She's a good friend of both of ours and the wedding will be an outdoor wedding at another mutual friend's house. I wanted to get a new, really feminine dress to wear to the wedding and haven't found too much that I like. I found this vintage dress and think it is pretty...and priced right. I have never bought/worn vintage clothes before, but I think this is so girly and dressy without being "too much." Help me decide....what are your honest thoughts? TIA

Very pretty, not to much.I think it would be something you could wear again with no problem.Very nice.

Oh my gosh, it's absolutely stunning!!! Go for it! It's just beautiful!!!

You don't think it looks too young for me? I'm 36 and HATE it when people try to dress younger than their age. I thought it was elegant and classy, but want to make sure of others' opinions first.

Yes, elegant and classy! The only thing I'm not quite sure about is the bow, but it's growing on me. LOL!

I like this one, too! :)

Ooh, Trina - I would buy that greenish-teal colored one in a second! Love that style.

(I'm not a big bow person, either, but it depends on the style)

By Pamt on Monday, February 23, 2004 - 01:48 pm:

LOL Trina. I think the bow is sort of 1940s looking. My hold up is the "train"--not sure how I feel about that and can only imagine what it would look like after I had been sitting for awhile. I like the brocade one too, but I have so many blue-ish clothes I really wanted pink this time. That's actually how I found this dress---a search for "pink cocktail dress." :)

I like it minus the bow but it's not something i would wear though.

I think it`s beautiful ! (the pink one). I love vintage clothing. My wedding dress was from the 1940`s it had brocade roses on it.
I * used * to wear vintage alot but......
I have to lose some weight.Vitage clothing tend`s to run small I think.
I think the dress is a good choice though very feminine.

By Bellajoe on Monday, February 23, 2004 - 02:32 pm:

i wasnt' too sure about the bow and the train. I agree that after sitting down, the train may get messed up. I think how the bow looks depends on your figure. I do like it minus the bow as well.

Have you tried it on? I guess it depends on how you feel in it. If you feel great in it then heck, get it! If your not so sure about it and don't feel confident wearing it, then i would think twice about it.

It is a pretty color, very feminine.

I think it's very pretty but i'm not sure about the bow. I would say a definite yes but take off the bow. :)

By Annie2 on Monday, February 23, 2004 - 05:01 pm:

I like the pink one minus the bow. :)

By Mommyathome on Monday, February 23, 2004 - 05:02 pm:

I LOVE the color. I'm a big fan of pink :) I don't care for the bow or the train. The color is just so pretty though!

By Truestori on Monday, February 23, 2004 - 06:22 pm:

Pink is the in color this season. I think it would look nice. I say go for it. It seems that the price is right also.. :)

By Shellyg on Monday, February 23, 2004 - 06:29 pm:

I love it, bow and all. Keep the bow, its part of the vintage charm! If you are going to go vintage go all the way!

I like the color and the lacy top of the dress. I don't cared for the bow or the train, though. Overall, it is a nice dress. :)

By Ginny~moderator on Monday, February 23, 2004 - 07:38 pm:

I like both dresses - I think it depends on your coloring. For me, I'd get the teal because the pale pink would make me look washed out.

I agree about the bows. But given the style and the way the dresses were probably made, you may be able to remove the bow. I'd take it to a good tailor unless you feel confident you can handle it yourself. As for the train, well, you just sit carefully. When you sit down, run your hands under your backside and the back of your legs to smooth out the train as you sit. I remember doing that - a lot, with some clothes.

One thing about dresses made then, especially by the maker of the pink dress, is that they were properly made, by which I mean they had darts and seams, and didn't depend on elastic or stretch material to make them fit. When you look at the inside of one of those dresses and how it is put together, you'll be amazed.

I love it! And I think the bow really makes the dress have that totally feminine look. But I agree with Ginny. Your coloring would really need to go with it or the pretty teal one.
